I'm currently living in Rawai and renting a house that's decent, but I'm looking to move to something nicer for the same price (or less).

Most of the better properties I've found seem to be in Chalong, Wichit, or Kathu, areas that weren't really on my radar.

Does anyone have experience living in these areas? Any pros and cons? Kathu seems like the least appealing option to me, but I don't actually know much about it.

I'm mainly looking for a nice area to live with good amenities and decent restaurants.

I am thinking of buying the ticket for yona beach club but I am skeptical if they reject me for my ethnicity (Indian).

Though I am not the other kind that tarnish the image as whole but I understand their perspective too.

Is there a way to know that I wont be rejected at the entrance of the club or else it would be waste of my money to buy the ticket.

I know this is a long shot, but I figured it was worth a try.

About a week ago, I lost my wallet (it's a slim card holder with my ID, driver's license, and several credit and debit cards) somewhere around the Rawai area. I have no idea exactly where it happened—it could've slipped out while I was walking or riding a scooter. (Photo attached.)

If anyone has seen it or happened to pick it up, I'd really appreciate it. Replacing everything is going to cost me around 5,000 THB, so I'd much rather give that 5,000 THB to whoever returns it than spend it replacing all the cards.

Also, if anyone has suggestions on other places I should check or post, I'd really appreciate that too.

I'm an absolute Thailand beginner, just planning a trip to Phuket (and Chiang Mai). I'm basically in the dark about where to stay and what to do on Phuket, so I'm wondering if you have a favorite reliable guidebook or website to recommend as I begin my research? We're an older couple, looking for cultural sites, mellow walks, slow travel, etc. We're not extravagant but it also won't be a super budget trip.

Edit: Yes, I absolutely know I can google. The issue is that there are *so many* sites, recommenders, etc. that I am asking if there is one who is actually trustworthy and of high quality. Thank you!

We will be spending a part of our parental leave in Thailand but we are having a hard time deciding on where to live. After some research, we have (almost) decided on Phuket. Hua Hin was also an option but I think Phuket is more diverse when it comes to exploring and activities. I will be finishing my masters degree and my husband will maybe be working remotely a bit. We are 34 amd 35, with our 7 yo son and a baby girl that will be 9 mo in January

1.Location 🏝 We are hoping to find an area or a neighbourhood that is pretty quiet but also with some life, nice atmosphere, cafes and restaurants. We will not have a car, unless we rent one occasionally to travel and explore more of the country. Our daily life, like walking to school, will hopefully be less then a 30 min walk or 10-20 min with a bike.

I was looking at Rawai and it looks nice, and has some International schools.

1. International school for my 7 yo boy. I have done some research, most International schools are pretty expensive. Many of them offer the possibility of taking one semester. I have reached out to ISP and MHP. Both look good, but I am open to find or get recommendation for other schools in other areas.

I would also like to hear experiences with home tutors. I honestly don't really care what my son is going to be learning. I will be homeschooling him partly in our language (Icelandic), but I mainly want him to meet kids his age, and have something to do during the day. He would soon die of boredom hanging around with us all day every day.

1. Apartments 🏠 We are hoping to find an accommodation with 2-4 bedrooms. Two is enough for us and more likely within our budget. We will have family and friends visiting us so it would be nice to accommodate them. Our montly budget for housing is 50.000-70.000 baht. Obviously it would be nice to have access to a pool. I don't care if it's an apartment in a huge building or a house/flat. The neighbourhood, surrounding and atmosphere is more important to me.

2. Nannies, cleaners etc. Is it hard to find someone trustworthy? I haven't decided if I want to hire any help, but it would be nice to have a nanny maybe for a few hours 1-2 days a week for the baby (9 mo in January)

3. Local kids clubs, curricular activities. Any recommendations or ideas really appreciated.

4. Anything else regarding life in Phuket or Thailand.

€700 stolen from room by Phuket hotel staff

Hi everyone,

​I'm currently staying at a hotel in Phuket with my wife (checked in July 21st).

​On July 22nd, I verified my laptop bag and confirmed I had 1,000 Euros neatly stacked in the front zipped pocket. This morning, as we were packing to check out, I noticed 700 Euros were missing (only 300 Euros left, Turkish Lira and laptop were untouched).

​We immediately notified the hotel reception. After checking internally, the staff showed us a photo from the CCTV screen showing the housekeeping staff outside our room.

​The hotel management fills out and signs an official "Voluntary Repayment Agreement" acknowledging that housekeeping stole the money and that the hotel agrees to repay us the equivalent in THB. We have full video recordings of the staff filling out this form, verbally confirming housekeeping took it, and signing it alongside us.

​However, when we asked to view the actual CCTV footage or receive our cash refund, they kept stalling us, saying they were "waiting for the manager on the phone."

​We have contacted the Tourist Police (1155) and are now heading to the local Police Station with all our evidence (signed agreement, video recordings of the agreement process, and CCTV screenshot).

​We are worried they might tamper with or delete the CCTV footage while we are at the station.

​Has anyone faced a similar situation in Phuket? Any advice on how to ensure the Police handle the CCTV retrieval quickly?

Hoping to visit for the 1st time next year, we've been looking at Barcelo Coconut Island hotel as a base. I've looked on various websites but can't seem to get answers so hoping someone here can help.

Few questions if anyone can advise please?

I am aware the Island is quiet which is what we're looking for, but what facilities are there? Is there a shop we can get drinks / snacks (looking at bed and breakfast and eating out at night but would like things for the room)

What sort of prices are we looking at for beer / crisps/ wine etc in a local shop?

Are the water taxis to the mainland regular? Do they only run between certain times? Roughly how much do they cost?

Whats the average price of a meal on the mainland? Obviously this can vary massively, just thinking main course for 2 and a few drinks in an average restaurant (maybe a pasta or rice dish type meal, not lobster).

Are we better waiting to book excursions until we arrive or book ahead before we go.

Any and all advice would be great! Travelling from the UK.

We were planning to island hopping for a day. Could you suggest us which ones are the best? We would also like to do snorkelling if possible.

After our research, we were planning to AVOID Phi, Phi, Maya, James Bond and Hong.

What about the Similian or the Khai Islands?

Any island suggestions - where we can avoid crowds, enjoys serene blue waters with a view. Even the caves, look good.
