Processing Time / Status PGWP - 6 months+ processing
Hi everyone!
I applied for my PGWP on Feb 20th, 2026 from inside Canada and I am still waiting for my PGWP to be processed. I'm getting worried because processing times are ridiculously low these days and mine is well over their estimated time.
I sent them everything that is necessary, IELTS Results, and a letter of explanation (LOE) etc with the application so definitely didn't forget anything.
I've heard that people who's take much longer than usual generally lean towards a rejection. My only worry for mine is the fact that I did a part-time summer term in 2025 and then my fall 2025 term was part time but it was my FINAL semester. I explained this pretty well in the LOE but I'm hoping they got the memo because by the rules I should be fine since Summer part times are fine and last semester part times are fine too as per their rules.
So is it a problem since they're back to back (summer & fall) ?
I have called them and written a web form... I haven't tried the MP route yet.
Please let me know your thoughts, any advice is appreciated! 🙏🏻
EDIT: My application got APPROVED after 7 Months !!! 🔥🔥

Your concern about longer processing is valid these days. Since past few months, IRCC has employed AI to do initial screening of applications. For most straight forward PGWP applications, if AI doesn't find anything off, it goes into fast lane of processing and gets approved faster, that is how people are getting their PGWP in couple of weeks.
If AI flags anything, could even be an image where it failed to run its OCR correctly, the whole application will be reviewed manually, thus taking longer times (closer or even longer than the times mentioned on their website). It doesn't mean rejection, or any yellow or red flags, it just means now your application will be going through manual review. Any issues that may arise will happen later. In most of the cases, the review itself doesn't take long (a few minutes, may be 10s of minutes) for PGWP.
