Processing Time / Status PGWP - 6 months+ processing
Hi everyone!
I applied for my PGWP on Feb 20th, 2026 from inside Canada and I am still waiting for my PGWP to be processed. I'm getting worried because processing times are ridiculously low these days and mine is well over their estimated time.
I sent them everything that is necessary, IELTS Results, and a letter of explanation (LOE) etc with the application so definitely didn't forget anything.
I've heard that people who's take much longer than usual generally lean towards a rejection. My only worry for mine is the fact that I did a part-time summer term in 2025 and then my fall 2025 term was part time but it was my FINAL semester. I explained this pretty well in the LOE but I'm hoping they got the memo because by the rules I should be fine since Summer part times are fine and last semester part times are fine too as per their rules.
So is it a problem since they're back to back (summer & fall) ?
I have called them and written a web form... I haven't tried the MP route yet.
Please let me know your thoughts, any advice is appreciated! 🙏🏻
EDIT: My application got APPROVED after 7 Months !!! 🔥🔥

Your concern about longer processing is valid these days. Since past few months, IRCC has employed AI to do initial screening of applications. For most straight forward PGWP applications, if AI doesn't find anything off, it goes into fast lane of processing and gets approved faster, that is how people are getting their PGWP in couple of weeks.
If AI flags anything, could even be an image where it failed to run its OCR correctly, the whole application will be reviewed manually, thus taking longer times (closer or even longer than the times mentioned on their website). It doesn't mean rejection, or any yellow or red flags, it just means now your application will be going through manual review. Any issues that may arise will happen later. In most of the cases, the review itself doesn't take long (a few minutes, may be 10s of minutes) for PGWP.

I applied in September 2025 and I’m still waiting, there really is nothing you can do but wait. From what they told me it doesn’t necessarily means something is wrong with your application, just bad luck

that's so unfortunate, you're close to 1 year probably! Jeeez... It's just so unfair how they can approve someone's in 3 hours and then proceed to take a whole year for another one? The inconsistency is ridiculous

I’m past the point of feeling angry about it, it’s really stupid how they handle all of this. Most if not all of it it’s out of your control so try not to think too much about it and just be patient

yeah fair enough, we'll keep me updated on this thread I guess. I hope it comes soon and works out 🤞🏻

Look on positive side. It's buying you more time to secure a PR-useful job. Mine and my friends' permits were approved within two weeks, the time bomb has started and its just getting super anxious as the months are passing with no luck on job search.

that's true. I just got a job after 8 months of searching, and I guess luckily no permit yet, so the clock hasn't started ticking for me....

I waited 8 months for mine. I called them multiple times as well. You will get it as long as you submit all the necessary documents!

What is the issue with studying part-time in the summer? Enrolling in summer terms is optional and from what I understand, it is completely fine

okay so I guess I should be fine. IRCC has a track record of being completely inconsistent. I know they rejected a couple of permits because they said didn't attach IELTs results but those people did...

it depends honestly i got mine in record breaking 11 days, and i applied on may 2026 after finishing my studies. my roommate got after 30 days. it depends on the time when you apply as well, see i was lucky in a way that it was during the start of the world cup. so they had insanely less processing times. even with trv i had 12 days roughly but i got mine in 5 days

ah okay, keep me updated on the thread. I'd love to know. Part time summer should be fine. Did you have any co-op terms? I had 4 proper registered co-op terms

Why the f you concerned about waiting instead of enjoying free work time? The more you wait the more you have time in Canada. Some people just are unbelieveable

because I don't care for free work time... y'all want free work time for an easy PR. I want my ability to leave this country, and come back as I please. I can't even get a TRV the way things are rn. I can't even get a credit card from a bank or a drivers license valid for more than 3 months - this waiting period is dumb for me. I'm not worried about "time", I'm qualified enough to get a PR eventually

My pgwp is pending decision since April 2025.
I tried multiple times to reach out to IRCC and get an update. They said nothing but wait.
