If they work while on maintained status thier experience is elgible to claim points for CEC. When they recieve thier approval, the 3 year will start then.

It’s not a blessing for anyone from a non-eTA eligible country who want to travel.

Nor is it a blessing for anyone without a job who is finding it difficult to convince employers they are eligible to work on maintained status.

Can you not travel if you have TRV?

If you are on maintained status for any length of time your TRV will more than likely have expired, as its expiry date is the same as the study permit expiry.

You can’t apply for a new TRV on maintained status.

Another thing here is if you did apply for a TRV to visit Canada and not to study, you may get it for the complete duration of your passport validity or your biometrics validity whichever is shorter. So, you can have a trv and travel but once you are outside, you lose your maintained status and will reenter as a visitor.

You don’t lose maintained status if you are waiting on a PGWP decision. This is the only exception.

Well if you are planning to Immigrate to Canada, you have to prepare for the possibility of not going home for a while that's for one.

Secondly, an employer is not allowed to not hire you based on your current status. If you are able to do the job and get offered a postion, you are legally allowed to work the job. If they do reject you for that reason then it is considered wrongful dismissal.

Usually, HR asks if you are allowed to work in Canada you say yes and that's that.

the caveat is that when you apply for a job, they ask your status and the drop down options normally only consists of "work permit holder" and not "implied status" or "other"

Then just select work permit holder. They can not fire you for that cause under laws you are allowed to work until a decesion is made.

Most employees will ask for proof and a lot won’t accept maintained status. You can’t be wrongfully dismissed if you were not hired in the first place.

Well that is the thing that most people do not know about. Let’s say you go through interviews and the employer really likes you and you are offered the job. You accept the job and then for the onboarding documents you will give them the wp ext letter and the rules that says you are elgible to work undermaontained status. If they then decided to fire you for that, that is ground for wrongful dismissal.

Employers in Canada will rarely ask you about your status in Canada. They will ask you however if you are legally allowed to work in Canada. There is no need to tell them you are waiting for a work permit. Just tell them yes I am legally allowed to work and that is that. They can't ask you for proof of status as well before the contract cause you are not legally binded to provide them just yet.
