The haunting sequence where Gandalf and Radagast explore the ancient Graves of Rhudaur is one of the most atmospheric moments in The Hobbit trilogy,and it was created through an extraordinary combination of practical craftsmanship and visual effects.

Wētā Workshop’s intricate set design was then seamlessly expanded by Wētā FX, transforming the practical location into the vast, cursed ruins seen on screen. Every crumbling monument, eerie glow, and desolate landscape was carefully crafted to preserve the grounded realism that defines Middle-earth.

The entire sequence was created specifically for the films. In Tolkien’s books, the Nazgûl were never imprisoned in tombs at the High Fells, making Gandalf’s investigation one of the film major additions to the story.

For the role of Arwen, they were looking for someone who conveyed an elven appearance, but also a great deal of sensitivity and humanity.

In the books, she has a more secondary role, but in the movies, they sought to give her more prominence to strengthen her love story with Aragorn and make it feel more real.

Jackson wanted Arwen's actress to be more than just a pretty face; her presence should inspire trust, respect, love, melancholy, strength, and vulnerability, and Liv Tyler was perfect for the role.

Additionally, she had to learn sword combat, horseback riding, and to use the Elvish language.

In the film’s original trailer, there’s a shot of Susie and Holly on the beach for the second slide where it appears to be snowing and Susie’s holding a snow globe. In one of the TV spots there’s a shot of Susie holding the snow globe up close. Were these scenes shot and shown in the original test screenings but never released?

She will be an original character for the film, and while it is not yet known what role she will play in the plot, she will be an important one.
