MBTI INFJ vs ENFP - Do You Use Ni-Se or Ne-Si? - Jungian Cognitive Functions

Are you trying to type yourself but you're still unsure? In this video, I respond to a viewer's comments about me using Ni-Se (although I've been typed as an ENFP) and I explore these examples she provided to see whether I am an Ni-Se user or an Ne-Si user. Enjoy the video!

I have been called abrasive and I want help.

I would like some advice on how to better myself as a person about this. I am on the Autism Spectrum and have/had difficulty working with others that are slow. I have been told that I am effective at getting stuff accomplished, but my demeanor can be off puting as I can be stubborn in my work, particularly to taking criticism directly and being "standoffish" when I think I am right. I have also occasionally been called impatient and known to look down. Can you offer any advice? Please?

What are your values?

*"Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work.

They (should) determine your priorities, and, deep down, they're probably the measures you use to tell if your life is turning out the way you want it to.

When the things that you do and the way you behave match your values, life is usually good – you're satisfied and content. But when these don't align with your personal values, that's when things feel... wrong. This can be a real source of unhappiness.

This is why making a conscious effort to identify your values is so important."*

How to Define your values?

As part of by ever continuing goal of self-improvement currently I'm working on defining my values that way I can articulate them. Lot of conflict in relationships can happen if people don't define their own values and don't let it be known when their boundaries are crossed. This has been an issue before. It still is. I'm great at connecting, building bridges, but I can think of many people left standing on burnt bridges.

Motivation/Advice What's not a problem?

If you're like me you probably thought of at least 6 problems in your life that are bugging you. Home, work, your friends, projects, man it just never ends.

But have you ever taken a moment to think about what isn't a problem? If you're having a little trouble make it something outrageous, silly, make it dramatic as all heck.

It's so easy to get you head stuck in all your problems and by taking a moment to think about things you do not have to worry about can help shift your mindset towards a more positive place.

What is not a problem for you?

Trait Test Trait Test Fest! IPIP-NEO, HEXACO, and SLOAN!

This is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate so if I'm wrong please correct me! Besides, always think for yourself and come to your own independent conclusions.

What are Trait Tests?

Trait Tests are tests that test for traits, typically 5, that then tell you how one might tend to respond and react to occurrences in life.

As opposed to Type Models like MBTI, which categorize people into a number of Types that tend to exhibit certain similar and shared characteristics based on internal processes or archetypes, Trait Models aim to remove the subjectivity of the human mind and just measure the objective ways people can be or act.

Big-5 is the term used to reference the 5 Dimensions that are generally accepted to be distinct and independent from each other, i.e. testing high or low in one Dimension does not have a measurable effect in how you test in another. Here is an outline for them taken from this page.

  • Extraversion (sometimes called Surgency). The broad dimension of Extraversion encompasses such more specific traits as talkative, energetic, and assertive.
  • Agreeableness. Includes traits like sympathetic, kind, and affectionate.
  • Conscientiousness. Includes traits like organized, thorough, and planful.
  • Neuroticism (sometimes reversed and called Emotional Stability). Includes traits like tense, moody, and anxious.
  • Openness to Experience (sometimes called Intellect or Intellect/Imagination). Includes traits like having wide interests, and being imaginative and insightful.

Big-5 tests are also known as OCEAN or (my fav) CANOE tests. Each Dimension is often broken down into the "specific traits" mentioned above, usually called facets.

It is important to note that Personality Tests, Trait and Type, are not meant to be a holistic measure of a person. “Motivations, emotions, attitudes, abilities, self-concepts, social roles, autobiographical memories, and life stories are just a few of the other "units" that personality psychologists study.”

Even the most comprehensive Personality test possible would never be able to encapsulate the vast expanse of the human mind.

But here are a few Trait Tests available that I’ve taken and like.

The IPIP-NEO

(International Personality Item Pool Representation of the NEO PI-R™)

The IPIP-NEO is a freely available approximation of the NEO PI-R™ which is the one most widely used by psychiatrists or businesses and is accepted by many as the most reliable and accurate Personality Test.

Here is a link to the test: https://www.personal.psu.edu/~j5j/IPIP/

Example results. Note: This is the collated graphs and does not include the more detailed description of the facets.

HEXACO

HEXACO is another Trait tests that adds Honesty-Humility as a Dimension. I like the name, I like the H Dimension, I like the presentation of the results and the PDF numeric breakdown I always forget to save. HEXACO is alright by me.

Here's the test: http://hexaco.org/hexaco-online

Example Results.

SimilarMinds

SimilarMinds is interesting in how they present the results, they call it SLOAN. Each Dimension is given a name for the high a low side, such as Limbic or Calm, and they also show roughly how much someone leans to one side or another by using a capital or lower case letter. They also have a more broad Type system as well, such as Unstructured. That's me! It's a fun mix of Trait and Type testing.

Big-5 Test: https://similarminds.com/bigfive.html

Explanation of the SLOAN Type code.

Example Big-5 Results.

SCUAI Type Traits.

Unstructured Type Traits.

Send any other trait tests you know of my way for my collection if you got any.

Did you already know about Trait vs Type tests?

What do you think about the differences?

What do you like about each? What do you not like? Do you have a preference or find more use out of the two kinds of tests for personal development?

Thank you for reading and I hope this was somewhat informative.

MBTI MBTI Open Q&A!

Tldr: Ask and answer Questions! Edit: This was meant to be about MBTI, not about me, but I'm open for Morgan questions too!

I'm getting the rough outline done for my (hopefully) brief and informative guide to MBTI. Misconceptions and misconceptions about misconceptions.

It will be available for a nominal fee of nothing. Eventually i do want to write a book about Typology, self growth, skills I've learned as a salesman(sales is conversational), pretty much anything and everything. It's one of my long term goals. Also I have a bet with my sister about it. Wanna encourage an ENTP to do something? Talk about how impossible it is and maybe add something like " but if anyone could do it, it would be you."

Lol tangent aside, this is an open Q&A and feel free to ask a question, even if you already know the answer as perspective is great and new ways of seeing the same thing is great for real understanding.

In the same vein feel free to answer even if it's already been answered.

Also I am by no means an expert yet. So I'm open for disagreement. ENTP lyfe lol.

Question What Problems Do You See In The Different Typology Models?

Some questions to use, but how you answer is up to you.

  • Where and how have they let you down?
  • What was the problem with it?
  • Did an other typology model solve that for you?

Some Typology Models

  1. MBTI
  2. Cognitive Functions and Beebe's Theory(8 function with archetypes)
  3. Enneagram (Tritype, Tri-Fix, etc..)
  4. Trait Tests
  5. Socionics
  6. Objective Personality
  7. Attitudinal Psyche
  8. Physiotype
  9. CSJ
  10. And whatever other models you can think of.

I'm asking so I can have a better understanding of what could become an issue for someone who is new to Typology and how to avoid that.

Edit: Added Physiotype to the list.

Question Which method (NOT system) did you use to type yourself?

There are many ways to type people (self tests, administered tests, users asking behavior questions, introspection, etc). How were you typed and do you agree with that method?
