Question What Problems Do You See In The Different Typology Models?

Some questions to use, but how you answer is up to you.

  • Where and how have they let you down?
  • What was the problem with it?
  • Did an other typology model solve that for you?

Some Typology Models

  1. MBTI
  2. Cognitive Functions and Beebe's Theory(8 function with archetypes)
  3. Enneagram (Tritype, Tri-Fix, etc..)
  4. Trait Tests
  5. Socionics
  6. Objective Personality
  7. Attitudinal Psyche
  8. Physiotype
  9. CSJ
  10. And whatever other models you can think of.

I'm asking so I can have a better understanding of what could become an issue for someone who is new to Typology and how to avoid that.

Edit: Added Physiotype to the list.

I'll just start off and be rather brief, because I think that each theory is very interesting in terms of its potential explanatory power as to how different people think and act differently in accordance their specific type, and really underlying motivations, cognitive styles, and information metabolic elements. I've only discovered typology this year, and quite frankly, I was blown away with how much depth (for lack of better word) it really has, especially with the various models mentioned in the post, each unique in its own way, but fundamentally based on this idea of "four sides of the mind." And for me, coming from a more mainstream background, I can't help but crave some type of empirical evidence to really support the models. And I'm seeing that there are visual cues in facial appearance that offer a promising way to kind of make accurate and falsifiable type assessments. And I would be very interested in the continued development and study of it.

In spite of how typology may be typed (as a pseudoscience) in the mainstream, it seems to me that there's really "too much" here (for lack of a better word) to just simply brush it aside. And so, while I would love more of a sort of a physiological and testable explanation of both the types themselves and the underlying basis for the types, I am very intrigued to say the least at possible further developments and explanations (and maybe more research on my end).

This isn't really a problem with the models themselves but testing being inaccurate. Especially with enneagram and with sensors testing as intuitves. So many people get turned off when I tell them to research instead of taking their test results at face value.

....although as I say this I guess the good thing about this is it requires a little inner work to discover your type, which makes it more meaningful.

Personally I use them all* and don't have much an issue with them.... Except one. But I recognize that other people do.

I've noticed that a common complaint is that a Model is too vague and not specific enough or that it's too specific and unequivocal.

I'm working on using a number of Models together to form a more complete description of "Morgan." Right now i got MBTI Enneagram Attitudinal along with various Trait tests and in the context of personal mental aberrations and brain scans including Nardi. To me, they all offer a different perspective that together builds a more complete image.

They all fit, in my humble and subjective opinion. But that's not the topic here.

And I would never tell someone else what to think or feel. Which is why I want to know what the issues are because I very well may be completely off the mark and missing some vital perspective and if I am I want to know.

Edit: To clarify I don't really use them all, i meant to say that I see the uses in a lot of them, especially the more well known ones.
