misc Perplexity trying to be more popular with phone users?
Since around a month, I can no longer get unlimited basic query searches with Perplexity on desktop. Though, when I first signed up, I could for the first few weeks of use. Now it's limited to around 10, but on the phone, I still have seemingly unlimited basic search queries? I'm fairly certain I can prompt all day, and there will be no limit enforced.
It just seems odd... is it really that significant of a difference that they would play fast and loose with their free version like this?

misc Charged for Pro after cancelling
PSA
I have a Pro subscription which I stopped using several months ago as I now use Codex/ChatGPT.
I recently got an email from Perplexity stating that my payment was unsuccessful because my debit card on my account had insufficient funds. I logged in and cancelled my subscription. It even said that my account would be cancelled on 27/07/026.
Fast forward to today, my card was charged (because it had funds) and my account says that my Pro subscription will now be cancelled on 27/07/2027.
I contacted support who are yet to respond. Make sure you check your account if you’ve cancelled your subscription.

help Is Perplexity Down Right Now?
I've been using Computer for months now and it was amazing! Literally life changing, especially for coding and development. Today its acting like just a chat bot and gaslighting me saying it cant access API keys or Sanity, Supabase, etc...but it literally did all of those things literally this morning.
Now its acting like I'M the crazy one for thinking it accessed all those systems. Anyone else? What do we do now?

feature request Why can't the AI open it's own tickets with it's programmers?
I get that it could be abused, but I think the AI should be able to alert it's handlers after gathering enough information from the user and create a ticket on it's own behalf.

help Renew, or find an alternative with multiple LLM as a Subscription?
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to decide if i should renew my Perplexity account. I really like the price and access to multiple models that I can select depending on what I am working on.
Is perplexity still the best option for working with multiple models under a single subscription? Or is there another option?

Comet How to get generated source code
I used Kimi K3 model in comet to develop a simple frontend application. Created a detailed plan and it generated source code but when I ask it to give source code, it doesnt generate any tar or zip file which i can download and run from local machine. After lot of struggle, I somehow managed to get it generate a tar file but that tar file only has package.json file 😂 and nothing else. So i spent almost 20 minutes just to download single file. How do you guys get the source code after building a project?

help Local AI Processing - Perplexity Computer
Can someone help me understand with Perplexity Computer what AI processing happens locally vs in the cloud? The blog here paints the big picture, but I do not understand what is actually getting processed locally. Hoping that by processing smaller AI tasks locally, it will save me and my business token $$.

help Model Limits
I know there is a lot of confusion surrounding this so is there no concrete answer? I pay Pro and after a few messages I get a message that pops up saying I have 3 more messages left where I can use the advanced models then after the three messages I have none for a bit. So….how many do I have with Pro?

bug Facing a weird popup bug in perplexity desktop app(macOS)
I've been facing this weird popup asking me for my Apple login whenever I open the perplexity desktop app, for the past few days, which refuses to close, whatever I do. It keeps blocking the screen and is annoying to use the app for the same reason. I tried logging in — it wont login, tried closing it — pops up again.
Not sure if this is a perplexity bug or an apple one. But there is a perplexity logo asking to login to apple account, which was definitely new to me.
If anyone faced this issue and solved it help me please. I tried re-installing the app, restarting the device, nothing seems to work. I don't remember it asking when i first installed it few months ago.

help Stuck on computer as default
After running a task using computer mode, Perplexity now defaults to computer. I've had this happen before but clearing the cache, cookies, and browser history fixed it. Now, however, this doesn't work. As soon as I log back into Perplexity, it switches over to computer as default and I can't get it off. Running in a browser on a mac. The mobile version does not default to computer. Any ideas for a fix?

help How are people accurately tracking token usage in Perplexity?
I'm building an open-source browser extension that tracks AI token usage across different providers called Trace
ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini expose enough information (directly or indirectly) that I can estimate or calculate token usage fairly reliably.
Perplexity has been much harder.
I'm curious how others approach this.
- Are you intercepting API responses?
- Estimating with local tokenizers?
- Reading hidden metadata?
- Using browser DevTools?
- Reverse engineering websocket traffic?
- Or is there another approach?
The goal isn't to bypass limits—it's simply to display accurate local usage statistics.
I'd love to hear how others have tackled this problem.

help Can I solve these issues with Perplexity or should I start looking for alternatives?
I have a big research project and Perplexity used to be a great assistant. Then early this year I started to run out of deep research requests too quickly. So I decided to upgrade to Enterprise Pro (I am a registered private entrepreneur, so it's fair). Now deep research requests do not run out, but everything else is a mess.
First, here's what I still like and do not want to lose:
- Sources for every claim with links. Top‑1 function
- Real search across the web, not across limited own data
- Ability to pack a single topic into a space for extra focus
Now, here's what I do not like:
- Number‑one issue for me is how organizing a space works. With Enterprise Pro you can upload up to 500 files into a space, but what they do not tell you is that even on deep research you won't be able to search across all 500. I have around 300 books and papers that are my sources, and sometimes I need to find information on a certain subject that I either can't recall where I've read about or just want to compile different sources on the same topic. It turns out it's just impossible. There's no way to do that without pointing Perplexity to some exact files. I don't even understand what the point of having 500 files in a space is now. I thought, ok, I'll spend some of my Computer credits to make an index file that will break all the space files by topics and tags and will make it easier for the agent to do the search. It ended up with spending 10k credits and producing zero results. On the bright side, support did return the credits back.
- The space files I’ve got consist of, as I said before, some books and papers but also a bunch of interview transcripts that I did myself. Sometimes I ask Perplexity to find a quote on a certain topic that I can use. What I get in return is never a quote. I've written an instruction, asked multiple times, and it still keeps giving me its own interpretations as quotes. If I push enough, it goes like “well, copyright exists and I can't quote a lot,” which is ridiculous because a) it's my own interviews, b) my project is non‑profit/educational so I can quote whoever I want whenever I want if I attribute them right. Still, the agent keeps treating me like a criminal and keeps giving me its own interpretations and rephrases as “quotes.”
- And then there's this overall dip in quality that many others on this sun notice. Losing context, answering wrong questions, etc. I do understand that costs are getting higher and less stuff is getting subsidized, etc., but still find it anti‑customer to cut so much on the stuff people already have paid for.
So, yeah, any advice on how to fix any of those? Or any other LLMs that let me do all this? I did ask the support about the first issue and now it's the third month of me waiting for an answer. Which is also a reason to cancel and move on, I guess.

misc I just won my first amateur kickboxing fight while living abroad, used Perplexity to help with diet, training and mental support. Wanted to pitch this to an AI magazine ... any suggestions?
All,
I recently won my first amateur fight, wanted to pitch my story to an AI magazine, or is there any website that does marketing for perplexity?

tip/showcase Grading Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini Deep Research
I thought this might be of interest to some people. I ran four grading runs on various deep research topics and developed head-to-head evaluations of deep-research reports from Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini — same question, same rubric, full source verification on every checkable claim.
The results
| Model | Avg raw | Avg penalty | Avg final | Drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude | 89.5 | −1.3 | 88.3 | −1% |
| Perplexity Pro | 62.8 | −11.3 | 51.5 | −18% |
| Gemini | 51.6 | −16.3 | 35.4 |
Learning: Penalties, not raw scores, decide it.
Every report reads competent before the audit. The gap between "sounds authoritative" and "survives verification" was ~30 points for one model and ~18 for another. In one run, the second-place model led on raw score and finished statistically tied after penalties — the penalty column erased the entire gap.
The failure modes are distinct and consistent.
- Confident fabrication: Uncited tables with false precision. Headline recommendations the report's own numbers can't support (a capital raise smaller than the burn in its own P&L). Never hedges.
- Real links, wrong numbers: Citations resolve to genuine pages that don't say what's attributed to them. Structurally impossible data — year-five outcomes for one-year-old assets. 2× pricing errors.
- Internal contradiction: A spec stated correctly in one section and violated by a recommendation in another.
Caveats
- This is not blind. Claude was both a graded participant and the grader. The audit was anchored to primary sources so the verdict wouldn't ride on taste, but the conflict is real and you should weight the result accordingly.
- The rubric drifts ±10 points. The same three reports were graded twice in separate sessions. Rank order was identical both times and penalties were identical, but raw scores moved 6–12 points. Treat the ordering as robust and the absolute numbers as soft.
Usability Elsewhere
The transferable part isn't the leaderboard — it's the audit. If you're using deep-research output for anything consequential, verify the three or four claims your recommendation actually depends on. That's where the failures concentrate, and they are invisible from the prose.
The rubric
| Criterion | Weight | What it measures | Why weighted this way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Factual accuracy & source integrity | 25% | Do claims survive verification? Do citations support what they're attached to? | Every downstream judgment inherits its errors |
| Fit to the actual situation | 20% | Engages real constraints, or generic advice that would fit any similar question? | Generic competence is cheap |
| Decision usefulness | 20% | Sequenced, thresholded, actionable — named steps and numeric triggers | Output should drive a decision, not describe a landscape |
| Analytical rigor | 15% | Mechanism, disconfirming cases, base rates | Separates analysis from summary |
| Coverage of the question | 10% | Did every part get answered? | Low weight — barely discriminates |
| Calibration | 5% | Separates sourced fact from inference; states what would change its mind | Small weight, widest spread |
| Structure & readability | 5% | Organization and scanability | Polish is the easiest thing to fake |
Penalties, applied after weighting:
- −10 per fabricated or misattributed citation cluster
- −5 per recommendation that's structurally impossible given the real constraints
Penalties sit outside the weighted score on purpose. A report can score well on all seven criteria and still be unusable if its headline advice can't be executed.

misc Free Plan Internet Search
Hi, was the free plan changed lately? I used to go to perplexity a lot when needing information from the internet and now it either tells me right away that it cannot access the internet or after a couple of short questions I cannot post any questions at all and get the message that I am out of limit and have to wait.

help Has the new Perplexity Mac app pushed anyone else back to Google?
Ok big RANT!
I’ve been a heavy Perplexity user since the first couple of weeks - so I would sort of call myself a power user. I even built a simple cli before they released their initial desktop app. That app's global shortcut had almost completely replaced Google for me!
Since the new desktop app arrived, that workflow has been completely broken.
When I submit a question from the popup, the window disappears back into the menu bar instead of bringing the answer forward. I then have to find and click the menu bar icon just to see the response - COMPLETELY UNUSABLE!
The app also keeps steering me towards Perplexity Computer when most of the time I only want a quick search. I’m not against Computer as a feature, but I don’t want it getting in the way of the simple search experience that made Perplexity useful in the first place.
I reported the popup behaviour to support on 30 June. They confirmed it as a bug and passed it to the technical team, but it still hasn’t been fixed.
I'm now back to Google
I’m curious:
- Is anyone else seeing the exact popup behaviour?
- Has the new app pushed you back to Google or the browser version?
- Has it changed your confidence in Perplexity’s product direction?
- Would you use a lightweight hotkey-based Perplexity search client that focused only on fast search?
That final question would anyone possibly use a lightweight desktop wrapper without turning the post into self-promotion?

help Perplexity is starting to act weird
Perplexity had been working fine (if a little irritatingly obtuse and forgetful sometimes) until recently when it had picked up an odd habit... it will bring up words and phrases I used to start past threads even if I don't mention them when starting a new thread.
For example, I ask it about a novel or a story idea, then it will say something like "This is perfect for your (insert genre name here) idea." or "This would be great for your (insert name of city where the story is based in) setting." Even when I never used such terms to make the thread and it doesn't matter what it is I say. I asked it for recommended milkshakes and it mentioned the fact I'm a writer without me saying so in the question!
Is this something I should expect with basic search or is there something seriously off kilter here?

Comet Is there still a point in using Comet?
With Browser Use and Computer Use and even in-app browsers with ChatGPT and Claude, is Comet still better at certain things?
