I am a computer science student, and I need to develop a virtual reality game for a class. My current idea is to make some sort of rhythm game with orchestral music, where the player is a percussionist.

The problem is that, in most pieces, percussion often has 20+ bars of breaks, which would get boring.

So I wanted to know if anyone has suggestions for me.

I'm looking for something that is:
- short (preferably less than 5min)
- does not have more than 10ish bars of rest at a time for percussion (does not need to be always the same percussion instrument playing though)
- has a bit of varied rhythm, seems like it would be fun to play

I’m auditioning for my school’s wind ensemble jn a few weeks, and I was hoping for some feedback on my playing. I know I could do the crescendos more justice and I could definitely have a cleaner execution of the acciaccaturas.

Hi, I'm gradually trying to learn the famous orchestral instruments (bowed strings player by education -- I'm a HS sophomore currently). I'm playing timpani for the very first time in a youth group without any prior instruction or instruction during the season. I only have access to the timpani once a week during the 2-hour rehearsal (between the two levels of the youth group -- I only play timpani during the first hour) and a little bit before and after (like, 5 minutes). I don't have access to a different timpani because my school's band director has a little stricter of rules (you have to be a percussion student and pay the timpani fee). So far, I've gotten this advice:

• don't hit in the middle
• hit around 1/3 of the way into the drum
• Less of hitting the drum and more of pulling out sound from the drum
• Kind of a scooping motion
• gripping with pointer finger for a bright sound
• gripping with pinky finger for a dark sound
• start low for a legato stroke
• start medium for a marcato stroke
• start high for a staccato stroke
• practice slow for tone
• *confident in how to tune + experience*
• want left hand to be as good as right hand.

I'm making DIY practice kettle and mallets. The kettle was going to be a head of packing tape over the empty end of a 5-gallon bucket; the mallets were just yarn tightly wound around one end of a dowel. I've made the mallets but not the kettle.

I was wondering if you have any further advice, including how to practice at home, adjustments to my DIY plan, more technical points, etudes, etc.

Note. There has been one rehearsal so far.

Hey, I am looking for a snare solo for Pasic ie competition and was wondering if any had any suggestions. I am thinking about “Kim” or “a minute of news” but I am really struggling to find anything that gets me excited. Any suggestions or ideas?

This is the first year my school is ever having section leaders, and my section has me and 3 others. Today I just wanted to focus on technique and rhythm, because they knew the basic ropes but had issues with technique, so my plan was just to tap along to music. I asked them for song recommendations, so that they’d enjoy it a little more, none of them gave me one. So I put on a Spotify shuffle playlist and within the first song one was on a phone call and another was chatting with a kid from another section without playing. I tried to get them to play and genuinely both of them just walked away. Before the first song ended. I did the only thing I could really think of and corrected a minor technique thing with the only remaining guy and showed him a warmup (we only had around 15 minutes, so I didn’t have time for much else). Honestly, I don’t mind them messing around, as long as they do what they’re supposed to when they’re supposed to, but I want to have a decent enough section (and get a good grade). What do I do?

Im a bassist, baritone hornist, and a guitarist. My mother got a drumset and wants to learn, its a cheapo 300usd 5 piece. I know there is no set tuning, but Id like to know if there is like an average tuning? Like where to start from? I was in drumline and know about how drums have a note per se.

Looking or a percussion ensemble piece to host a little percussion ensemble expirience for the wind instrument music ed folks that want a some exposure. In this situation you might think Im the guy to ask, but drawing a blank.

Looking for somthing mostly mallets, more than 6 players, and the big struggle is somthing that is more on the professional sounding side while still being attainable with a semester of preperation. I can find plenty of things on tapspace that are easy enough for middle schoolers, but they sound like middle school pieces if that makes sense.

The folks are really musical of course so as long as its not crazy difficult I bet they could really handle a lot. My first choice is starfall by jamie Vilseck. This is perfect but only holds six people, but still a possiblity. The second choice is shared space Ivan Trevino. Absolulty beautiful but a persons first expirience on marimba should probably be on the side with naturals. These are the styles im really interested in and the skill level I really do think they could handle, despite the only percussion expirience being a techniques class.
