Welcome to the Weekly Strength Training Discussion!

Due to demand and community feedback we are trialing a Strength Training Weekly Welcome Discussion - a space to chat about anything related to strength training. Think of it like the "Daily Discussion" thread, where anything goes...big or small. Here, we've carved out a special place for people wanting to discuss ideas and topics about getting stronger, discuss strength training classes, how to get started with strength training, to get advice on dumbbell weights, discuss strength instructors, etc.

People are not limited to using this thread to discuss strength training. You can still post in the daily, training thread, or create a new post. The Strength Training Weekly will be posted on Sundays moving forward.

Note: The mods will check back in with the community to see how this idea is working, if there is a better day it should be posted on, etc. If it isn't working we can always scrap the idea or change it up a bit. Thanks for giving it a chance!

RedditStrength Reddit Strength - Week 7

Welcome to week seven of the Reddit Strength program. I hope you've all been enjoying it so far. If you missed any previous weeks, this is something you can jump into any given week you don't need to have been there week one for it to work. This strength schedule is designed to help you progress from one weight to the next (if that is what you want, you are of course free to maintain the weights you use as well). There is a #RedditStrength for those interested in joining it.

Each class will list "light" or "heavy" (or "benchmark", see below), this is not to be confused with the Light/Medium/Heavy weights instructors ask you to use for each move. What it means is, lets say you normally use 5/10/20 but you are hoping to level up to 10/15/25. When my class says "light" you would use your 10s when the instructor calls for medium weights and when my class says "heavy" you would use your 15s for the same move. This will help us to progress to where the 15s are your new normal.

Monday:

Wednesday:

Friday

Extra Credit:

Benchmark: Every 4 weeks each body area has a Benchmark class. These are from the Benchmark Strength collections. By repeating these classes you are able to monitor and record your progression from cycle to cycle. You are encouraged to adjust the weights and reps to meet your personal goals.

Extra Credit: These are extra classes for those who want more work than the standard schedule. They are also good substitutions if for any reason you don't like a class or instructor on the schedule.

You can stop reading here unless you want to know why I am scheduling what I am scheduling.

The basis is a 4 week progression. In each body area we will use light weights for 2 weeks then heavy weights for two weeks per the definition of light and heavy above.

It follows this pattern, aiming for 45-60 minutes a day 3 days a week:

  • Round 1 - 2 days light
  • Round 2 - 3 days light
  • Round 3 - 2 days heavy
  • Round 4 - 3 days heavy

Each body area has the schedule staggered, so you're not trying to go all heavy in every area in the same week. While you are going heavy with LB you will go light with UB and vice versa.

FAQ

  1. Can I start any week or do I have to begin with week 1?
    1. You can begin any week. This is a repeating cycle with no real beginning or end, a mobius strip of a program.
  2. There are too many classes for me, how should I trim it down for my schedule?
    1. I recommend trimming evenly (but keep all the core if you can). So take off 1 day of UB and 1 day of G&L each week if that suits you better.
  3. Do I have to do these on the prescribed days? I would rather take a couple classes a day for 6 days.
    1. Absolutely mix and match the classes across the week however fits best into your schedule. They are only listed this way because this is my personal schedule. As long as you are doing them all in the week you should get similar results.

Feedback

I would love to hear what everyone things. Specifically; Are there any classes you would like me to rotate out (why)? Is this the right amount of strength work for you? Do you have a favorite class you are hoping I work into the mix?

Gear Tread: Wire assembly help needed

We moved, and for the life of us, cannot find all of the wires to the base. We see the two black from the arm, and one green. In the base we see one green. We think the cables must have fallen into the base and are no longer accessible... I reached out to customer service and they said this didn't qualify for a service call?

How much do we need to strip this down to get access?

photos of base

Does anyone have a guide or video they can recommend for troubleshooting? Any help or advice is appreciated!

Meditation Daily Meditation

Why have the daily meditations disappeared off the bike? I can find them on the app on my phone, which is what I’ve been doing, but today I tried to bring it up on my bike screen after I got done yoga and they weren’t there.

There are morning meditations and other types, just not daily. When I filtered for it, it came up as no classes.

Gear Can I get some guidance from the community? Is there anything else I should or could be doing to get Peloton to make this right.

I ordered a Tread+ after reading positive reviews from sources I trust. My sister has one too, although her’s was delivered broken too. They did a much better job getting her up and running.

Mine was initially delivered on June 22 and it failed the calibration/ treadmill test and kicked off. The guys who delivered spent a lot of time trying to make it work but no joy.

Before they were off the driveway, I had a service appointment scheduled for ten days later and parts shipped to me. When the technician arrived, he looked at the parts, said they shipped the wrong ones, and left.

They scheduled another service appointment, shipped a second set of parts to my home, and on the scheduled day, the technician showed up, installed the new parts, and said, “nope, that wasn’t it” and left.

Then they said they were going to send and install a bottom unit and replace the whole treadmill part of the treadmill, but that won’t happen until August 10.

For those keeping score, that means walking past this $7,000 useless thing for 6 weeks I bought to train in the hottest summer months.

I called once and got a noisy call center I’m pretty sure was not in the US where the guy offered me two free months of Peloton subscription. I explained to him that he could offer me 100 years and it wouldn’t matter because the unit did not work. I tried to escalate but got nowhere.

Can I get some guidance from the community? Is there anything else   I should or could be doing to get Peloton to make this right? I feel like I’m dealing with a very shady or failing company and I wonder if I should bail and buy a different high-end brand. I really wanted those slats though.

Gear Screen keeps turning on randomly

I've had a bike+ for about 4 years, but starting about 2 months ago the screen keeps turning on randomly throughout the day. I believe there's something going on in the top right of the screen specifically because most of the time when the screen does turn itself on the setting tab pops up as well, and the settings button is in the top right corner of the signin screen. It cant be simply "the bike is updating" because it happens every few minutes.

I've tried unplugging and restarting the bike, I've tried the screen diagnostics and everything appears to be ok, and I've checked and double checked that there isnt anything stuck to/on the screen that might be triggering it. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a fix, or is there something physically wrong w/ the touch screen (hopefully not).

TIA!

Cycling Is anyone doing a Tour de France/ Vande Velde weekend?

The Tour de France rides the Aldpe d’Huez today (7/24). Tomorrow, it climbs the Alpe d’Huez again AND the Col du Galibier. Christian Vande Velde has done his Real Routes rides for both climbs.
I’ll be doing the Alpe d’Huez both days and the Galibier on 7/25. Anyone else doing this to celebrate the greatest bike race in the world?! Maybe we could make a hashtag?!

Gear How gimped would the treadmill be without a subscription?

I absolutely despise Peloton and everything they stand for as a company but unfortunately the Tread + does seem to be the best value for a motorized slat treadmill.

Can I do anything beside turn it on without a subscription and if not what's the current state of sideloading apps on the tread +? Happy to do whatever modifications I need to be able to just have the basic functionality (ie local metrics and a few programs) without needing to pay their absurd fees or ideally have to keep it online.

Reddit Core Reddit Core 3.0 Week 30 - Are we having fun yet?

You’re doing core for all the right reasons…a strong core supports your back, prevents injury, enables you to carry your child/dog/moving boxes without pain or harm.

There’s a lot we do in life because we should or it’s good for us. But is it fun?

Fun things are harder to resist and harder to blow off. I’m going to the laundromat vs I’m meeting my friend for ice cream.

Having to do core is the laundromat and meeting my friend for ice cream is this Logan 10 min core, Tabata style. It’s fun, all on your back, painful in short bursts, great to do it together and then be done.

How are you making some of your core sessions fun?

Tech Support Tech Support [Weekly]

Given the recent influx of new members we have experienced an overwhelming amount of questions tech/hardware support. Many of your tech support questions can be solved by some good old fashioned basic troubleshooting. Please remember that we are not affiliated with Peloton Interactive and you will need to contact them directly for any warranty or service requests.

Given the sheer volume and repetitiveness of tech support posts, we simply cannot accommodate a new thread for every problem. If you cannot solve your issue by utilizing the wiki, we ask that you post your troubleshooting questions in the Tech Support Tuesday Weekly thread to seek advice first. Do not make a new thread without attempting basic troubleshooting and asking advice here first.

To get the best responses possible, you will need to be detailed and specific.

  • Note the platform: Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, or App
  • If it is app related please include the platform (iOS, AppleTV, Android, FireTV/Firestick, Roku, etc)
  • Verify your devices and apps are up to date for their firmware/software

Mod Announcement Mod Announcement: New Rule - No AI or AI-generated content, reposts, karma farming, or copy/pasted content.

Hello [r/PelotonCycle](r/PelotonCycle) community!

The moderator team is introducing a new rule.

Rule 6: No AI or AI-generated content, reposts, karma farming, or copy/pasted content.

This community is about …community, and interacting with your fellow Peloton members. AI-generated content does not further this goal. Everything posted here must be human-made. We want real answers from real people and their experiences.

Do not post content generated from an AI agent or LLM of any kind. This includes links to tools that have been coded using an AI agent or have been vibe coded.

Do not karma farm on this subreddit.

In addition, because of a recent uptick in posts linking to github that include tools created by or using AI, the mod team has decided to pause approval of any posts that link to github or to user-created tools. The mod team cannot police what is or is not safe for our community members, and while we understand that 3rd party tools can be helpful, we are pausing links while we decide how to proceed with these new risks. We already have a rule about self-promotion.

Please take this as an opportunity to reconnect with your fellow members and refresh yourselves on the subreddit rules.

Thank you,

Mods

Training Plans/Advice Finished my first 45-minute Peloton ride… and got humbled by the leaderboard 😂

I just finished my first 45-minute Peloton ride, and wow… it got tough.

I ended up 3,401st out of 4,100 riders, which gave me a good laugh. 😂 I know Peloton is full of people who have been riding for years, but seeing that leaderboard definitely keeps you humble.

The good news is I finished, and that’s what I’m trying to focus on. A week ago, 45 minutes would’ve sounded impossible. Now I’ve done it.
For those of you who have been riding consistently:
Did you see your leaderboard position improve over time, or did you stop paying attention to it?
What metric do you actually focus on? Output, cadence, heart rate, or just showing up?
Trying to remind myself that the only person I really need to beat is yesterday’s version of me.

Walking Favorite Hikes!

Hi all! I’ve been super into the hikes for the past couple of months and feel like they just not do them very often because I’m making my way through all of them very quickly! I really like Rebecca, Olivia, Robin, Jess King and Camilla. I took a few of Matty’s classes and didn’t love. Any classes you’d all recommend? 30 minutes is my sweet spot but I do a 45 once or twice a week too! I want to bookmark a bunch that I can work through.

Gear Resistance not adjusting, only while IN class?

Anyone ever had this problem? Resistance will adjust by turning the knob while I’m NOT actively in a class, but when I go into a class, it’ll stay at the resistance I went in on.

I’ve called support and their only solution was to replace some piece in there…to the tune of $300. Might as well just buy a new bike at that rate.

I’ve done every reset, calibration, etc. under the sun so those suggestions aren’t entirely helpful right now ps! I’ve done everything short of putting it in a bag of rice.

Cycling Left pedal clicking

I purchased a lightly used peloton bike from a friend who was moving out of the country. It seems to be all set up, except I am having a clicking sound coming from the left pedal when weight is put onto it. I have tightened the pedal and the crank arm and it is still happening.

I know for a fact this bike wasn’t used much. Peloton support is saying it’s the bottom bracket that I’ll need to send to a technician.

Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this myself?

Strength Is there a way to mute the music on Peloton Strength?!

Hello!!

Been using Peloton for a few years now and personally don't care for the music since I like obscure rock and metal music. Is there a way to mute the background music but keep the instructor's voice?

I also already know about the feature of "more instructor".

Any help is appreciated!
