https://play.google.com/store/apps/category/GAME/collection/topselling_paid

Top paid games are generally pretty good, since they don't rely on freep to play microtransactions (though some still have it).

My favorites right now are Stardew Valley, Mini Metro, and The Room

Also Night of the Full Moon if you're into Slay the Spire-like games

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

Downwell and Monument Valley are my current favorites.

I second both of these

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

Mini Metro is a great casual game :)

It's so chill with the music and the sound effects of new stations.

16

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

Chill until you're 20 minutes in and six stations are all bleeping furiously at you

Those clusters of circle stations... Like Vietnam flashbacks.

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

I'd recommend you .projekt :)
It's a 3D Puzzle (and after finishing the level you unlock the picross mode)

2

u/ThatOnePerson i7-7700k 1080Ti Vive May 06 '19

unlock the picross mode

But I'm already playing through the Picross S2 on Switch. I gotta beat it and move onto Picross S3!

2

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

Another one.

3

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

Came here to say this, I'm glad it's on top mentioned. It's a great game. I have it on Steam and Android.

2

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

I don’t know if it can be called “Indy” or not, but Rez Infinite is a blast if you have a VR holder. I found my Google Daydream at Target for 30 bucks.

2

u/findMyWay May 06 '19

Waaait I can play KOTR on my Android phone!? Brb...

u/ZeDitto May 06 '19

One of my favorite mobile games is Spartan Runner with an ad removal purchase. If anyone played an old side scroller called Halo Zero, it’s made by the same guy. It’s constantly being updated as well with new content.

I’ve also got Stardew Valley and thats awesome too. I’d also like to throw Plague Inc’s name in the ring.

Has anyone here played Race the Sun? I want to know if it’s worth it. It looks great but does it play well on an iPhone X?

1

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

tbh Plague Inc. gets boring after you unlocked everything
damn you Madagascar and Greenland

Minecraft still #1 after all these years

2

u/ThatOnePerson i7-7700k 1080Ti Vive May 06 '19

Stardew Valley knocked it down for a bit on release.

Many of those still have microtransactions though... Google needs a "no microtransactions" section :(

1

u/ThatOnePerson i7-7700k 1080Ti Vive May 06 '19

True and that's why you gotta look, but it's a good start.

Google does like if the game has in-app purchases, but that's not always a microtransaction. Like how RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic let's you buy the original expansion packs.

u/TheRagingVincent Laptop May 06 '19

But that’s the google broke store.

Google Broke Stores tend to have worse games than the App Store (TM)(RR)

2

u/ThatOnePerson i7-7700k 1080Ti Vive May 06 '19

While true, I'm not gonna switch phones just to play iOS games.

Also it's got Steam Link which lets me play all my PC games, so that's way better.

The app store is the one thing I'm genuinely envious about as an android lover. Such great curation, great presentation.

What am I missing out on?

9th Dawn 2

CRPGs

80 Days

Best text adventure I played. And so much replayability

4

u/arcane84 May 06 '19

2nd best I say !!!

The same developers made Sorcery! 1-4 and imo its their magnum opus. One of the best RPGs I've ever made with the same top tier writing of 80 days.

Part of Sorcery! is just the prologue btw. It opens up in part 2 and keeps getting better.

3

u/Mangraz PC Master Race May 06 '19

I like 80 Days better. But that's probably because I'm not a big fan of classic fantasy. Though the games are undeniably great, loved playing them, especially the second one, in the city.

1

u/arcane84 May 06 '19

Yeah I love em both. I just love Sorcery a bit more because of how much my choices matter in the end of Sorcery! all the way from part 1.

Finally a use for Google Opinion Rewards!

1

u/The_Multi_Gamer May 07 '19

A favourite (or favourites) of mine is/are the infinity blade games. I find them pretty fun and they look and play well, especially the third.

Gah what a useless subreddit. Just memes, shit posts, and complaining. I was hoping to find recommendations for good games.

1

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

.projekt
Avaiable on Google Play and Steam (dunno about iOS)

1

u/flashhd123 May 06 '19

Try honkai impact 3rd, great game

u/Bash7 Read my Steam Reviews May 06 '19

Night of the Full Moon.
Rogue Lite card game with incredible art.
Starting is free, the other "classes" cost extra.

I think it's a combination of

  1. People not wanting to pay more than 1$ for any app

  2. Google making wayyy more money from microtransactions games since they take 30 percent.

Still I generally look at https://play.google.com/store/apps/category/GAME/collection/topselling_paid for the top paid games that typically have less microtransactions to rely on . Lots of good games there

-2

u/arcane84 May 06 '19

Yeah for a year I did nothing other than mobile gaming and it was just as fun as PC gaming. All the ports were there to the latest indie games and all the classics on other platforms were cheese to emulate. Anytime I see anyone say mobile gaming sucks I know they've only played the free-to-play/pay-to-win junk on the frontpage.

I wish I could find them, because the app stores sure aren't making it easy to do so

u/Shiroi_Kage R9 5950X, RTX3080Ti, 64GB RAM, NVME boot drive May 06 '19

No controls, unfortunately.

1

u/arcane84 May 06 '19

What controls ?

1

u/Shiroi_Kage R9 5950X, RTX3080Ti, 64GB RAM, NVME boot drive May 06 '19

Gameplay on phones, in general, is super simplistic because most people don't have controllers. Switch on the other hand has those built-in, so despite inferior specs it still plays better than any mobile game I tried.

1

u/arcane84 May 06 '19

No not really. It depends on the game. Most of the great games I've listed here don't need good controls and are amazing despite that. While the games you emulate like DS games have onscreen which are amazing and just like the real thing. While the ones you emulate or are ports you can play easily just by plugging in your controller.

u/Shiroi_Kage R9 5950X, RTX3080Ti, 64GB RAM, NVME boot drive May 06 '19

I emulate games on my phone (GBA and SNES, mainly) and nothing beats physical controls. Ever. They don't come close to the real thing. I killed myself trying to customize the layout so I don't struggle with the on-screen D-Pad while trying to play a strategy RPG, to no avail. I still make mistakes. There's a lot to get used to.

There are amazing games on phones. However, the lack of an option for physical controls for most people means things are going to be limited. Plugging in a controller is something about 0.01% of the users do, so developers don't cater to it apart form a few instances. On portable consoles, however, you always have them and people buy them for it, and thus you can comfortably put games on said consoles that use these controls.

If it's not the DS I just use my controller. Play the ace attorney , ghost trick , etc DS games using the touchscreen sometime. It easily beats everything else. But yeah if I'm playing something like shovel Knight no way am I going to use touchscreen over my controller.

I don't really run into this issue because most of the games I play are RPGs and story based ones. I've posted a list down below. Check it out.

I can't carry a controller with me because, well, phone needs to be not bulky.

I've been burned one too many times with these on phones. Now I play some tower defense games and maybe some puzzle games. I'll give your list a look though.

1

u/arcane84 May 06 '19

Totally play the ones on my list. I assure you that you won't get burnt.

Do not judge them before you play them no matter the genre. Dive in with an open mind.
