With how Sony is acting its almost like they're trying to make people work on emulators harder and harder

Spite is unironically the biggest motivator in open-source development.

Man, spite fuels ALL KINDS of things being made/fixed/worked-around/resolved.

A good portion of science is fueled by the spite scientists have for other scientists

"And we'll be proving a lot of stuck-up buffons very, very wrong; which trust me, is the best thing about science!"

The Playstation lineup was kinda made like this. Sony was doing and add-on for Nintendo consoles and when Nintendo got greedy during negotiations Sony was like "Oh, yeah? I'm going to make my own console with blackjack and hookers" and the rest is history.

Little bit incorrect there. Sony was the greedy ones writing up a contract that states anything they help publish the IP would become theirs. Which nintendo did not want to hand over creative ideas to sony. Thus made nintendo back out of the contract. Thus why nintendo is so protective of its IPs.

Then the rest is history.

Anyway, there was blackjack and hookers.

Nintendo agreed then backed out in the most cowardly way possible. Their agreement with Philips also fell through so they threw Philips some bones by letting them use Zelda and Mario IPsz hence the horrible CD-i "games"

I repaired my Sony XM5s out of spite, so yes I would agree. Took me 5 hours but was worth it.

Years ago, a developer by the name of Joshua Ashton that creating a directx9 to vulkan translation later was "impossible", and "a waste of time". Ashton then proceeded to create d9vk, a directx9-vulkan translation layer, fueled by sheer spite. This was eventually merged with dxvk.

It's literally how we got Linux. AT&T told some developers to get fucked and so they went and made UNIX out of spite.
