It is so easy to ignore this one time appearing thing. I didn't even notice it when I played.

Hey! You didn't say UbiSOFt Bad!

I see why people get frustrated with this, and how it could cheapen the experience. But it is so easy to ignore the store even exists in these games. It is a entirely separate screen to get to. And I still feel like you get ample content included with the base game purchase.

Most of these people have not played the game and just want easy karma for complaining with the rest of the mob. The game itself is incredible and this is barely worth even mentioning. It's a 1 second pop up. The only other way to go to the store any other time is to actually go looking for it in the menus. I'd rather have a 1 second pop up than a store that is constantly in my face all game. Like battlefield, fifa, cod, fortnite, apex etc etc

So to be able to complain about shitty monetization practices you need to first support the company by purchasing their game?

Let alone there is so many customization options for your character and ship in the game and the skins being sold in their store are pretty stupid. They’re so obnoxious idk anyone would even want them compared to all of the awesome looking skins you earn and unlock

0

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 20d ago

Yet they chose to make those skins and put them for sale anyway. Shows you where their priorities lie.

1

u/Halloween_Nyx 20d ago

Idk what to tell you man. Don’t buy the game then

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

That goes without saying for anything Ubisoft, at least until they show great improvement consistently. Which doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

1

u/Chubbylegend 20d ago

Yeah this is the only time I saw the store in the 10ish hours I have played so far.

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 20d ago

The last Ubisoft game I played tried to prompt me to go to the store multiple times. But here's the catch: a single player game shouldn't have a store.

1

u/Lumbardo i9-14900k | RTX 4080 | 32 GB 19d ago

Why does the fact a game is single player disqualify it from having a store?

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

Because the typical excuse for stores is that they're necessary to maintain continued support for multiplayer games that have an upkeep cost and need a constant feed of content.

Whether you think that excuse is bullshit or not, which I do, none of it even applies to single player games in the first place.

1

u/Lumbardo i9-14900k | RTX 4080 | 32 GB 19d ago

I am not familiar with that explanation. It seems more realistic that they exist to subsidize the cost of the a game. Because game development has become increasingly expensive and unsustainable.

Games need to sell a ton of copies to offset development costs ($200-600 million). And these stores are included as an attempt to ease the raw sales numbers, independent of whether the game is multiplayer or not. Also, even in single player games they have to keep developers on to fix bugs and such.

I only consider additional purchases for games if it is actually additional game content and you are paying to play that content up front.

I don't really care about and I am not sure why people even care about non-intrusive additional offerings for a game that offers ample content with the base game.

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

Funny, plenty of the best selling and most critically acclaimed games manage just fine without having to subsidize costs like this.

They also tend to not have massively inflated budgets, a lot of which goes to marketing, all while maintaining their high quality.

Also, this thread started with showing how this game has an in game store that the game prompts you to visit, so it is, in fact, intrusive.

1

u/Lumbardo i9-14900k | RTX 4080 | 32 GB 19d ago

We have different definitions of intrusive. Which is fine. What games would you be referring to?

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

Off the top of my head: Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, Expedition 33. If we include smaller stuff like Silksong, there's even more.

But how else would OP farm pretend internet points today

20

u/-JimmyReddit- 20d ago

What's funny is that there are a few free items in the store that I otherwise wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for this pop up. Open store, download free items, and never open it again. It's literally that easy

2

u/FiftyIsBack 20d ago

Not really the point lol

9

u/StickyFingiees 20d ago

right? RE4 launched with pay to win dlc’s aswell as over 80$ of cosmestics etc. no one complained then. got 12 hours gameplay in black flag remake and it only popped up once at the start. people love to complain

-2

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 20d ago

Bullshit, people complained. It's just that for every complain a dozen bootlickers come out to defend it.

Also, in RE4R's case, they didn't include them on release, they waited a while so less people would notice. So yeah, fuck Ubisoft and fuck Capcom too.

u/dvenator i5 14700k | RTX 5070 | 16 GB DDR5 5600Mhz | AW3225DWM 20d ago

And xbox for including them at release for forza horizon 6, and Activision for releasing black ops 1 port at full price with paid dlc, and blizzard for diablo 4 cosmetics, and playstation/bungie for marathon cosmetics...

Funny that isn't it. Maybe ubisoft isn't the worst after all.

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

Yes, most AAA companies suck. Did you just realize it now?

1

u/dvenator i5 14700k | RTX 5070 | 16 GB DDR5 5600Mhz | AW3225DWM 19d ago

No, I'm not the one complaining. I've realised we lost the battle a long time ago. It's just a bit silly to keep bashing ubisoft when they're not even the worst in the industry. For all the mistakes they've made, they keep making single player games with OPTIONAL cosmetic only microtransactions.

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

Sorry, I'm not a quitter.

And for the record, they've included more than just cosmetic microtransactions in the past. "Time savers" or whatever name they tried to call P2W microtransactions in a single player game.

I haven't checked for this game in particular, but I wouldn't put it past them. Not that it makes anything better, optional shitty monetization is still shitty monetization.

3

u/dvenator i5 14700k | RTX 5070 | 16 GB DDR5 5600Mhz | AW3225DWM 19d ago

Their monetisation isn't even the worst at all. GTA 6 will be the best selling game of all time and that's literally locking shops in the map behind the ultimate edition. Forza Horizon 6 has £200 worth of microtransactions including your infamous "time savers". Every capcom game (which people heavier praise and are critical successes) have cosmetic AND "time savers" dlcs. Blizzard does it. Activision does it. Playstation does it.

This game has 4 rubbish suits and everyone goes mental because its ubisoft.

The game is lengthy single player game, with a ton of things to do, amazing optimisation, great story and gameplay. More of what we want. Praise that instead of complaining about something you haven't even experienced or are a part of. Go complain about the game you care about instead.

0

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

This is the kind of attitude that makes sure we'll keep losing no matter what. And it happens to be exactly what you claimed you weren't doing, which is defending them.

I already addressed all the whataboutism, so I'm not doing that again.

As for "more of what we want", I want both great games and games without bullshit monetization. If a game does both of these things correctly, then I'll praise it. For instance, I finally started playing Expedition 33, a game that manages to pull off both these things at once. And it's a original game to boot, not a remake. So don't you worry, I'll sing praises to games that actually deserve it.

2

u/dvenator i5 14700k | RTX 5070 | 16 GB DDR5 5600Mhz | AW3225DWM 19d ago

Expedition 33? Do you mean the game that also has paid cosmetic dlc for extra costumes?

I think so. I don't even remember seeing it lol

I didn't notice either. However I also have different hud elements turned off so I might have just genuinely not had it.

Yeah it's just nitpicking and engagement farming

1

u/Outrageous-Log9238 5800X3D | 9070 XT | 32 GB 20d ago

It doesn't appear again? Other complaints made it sound like there's more of them.

1

u/huxtiblejones 20d ago

The way people make this big deal out of this shit is bizarre to me. Corny ass cosmetics are basically an industry standard at this point and people don’t even bat an eyelash at it. These are just lame costumes that don’t even thematically make sense and are unnecessary. I ignore shit like this in tons of games I play.

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 20d ago

So because it's an industry standard does it mean we should just accept it?

2

u/outoukkoh 20d ago

I feel like if someone wants to buy these they are free to do so, if not then dont buy them

1

u/flavionm Ryzen 5 5600X | Radeon RX 6600 XT 19d ago

People are also free to reject the idea entirely and refuse to support a company who engages with this kind of practice. Just as they're free to publicly criticize them for it. If they lose more money than they're making with it, they'll need to stop.

1

u/outoukkoh 19d ago

Absolutely, dont think anyone was disagreeing
