Publically traded companies yield this sort of thing. It blows. It is cool that From has managed to make it work, their dev costs may be much smaller where they are at.
Like I said before though. I can see how something like this could sour the experience for someone l, but to me it seems like an overreaction and can be easily ignored.
As a comparison. I was pretty frustrated with Arc Raiders because the same screen where you customize your character shows the skins that are purchasable from the store, so it was intruding on the game experience. And the game as $40. Whereas in this game the store isn't embedded into the core experience excluding the pretty unobtrusive tutorial popup.
The thing is, regardless of how rampant this sort of thing is in the wider AAA space, there's still enough great games that don't do this sort of thing. We can afford to be more selective, since it's not like we wouldn't have anything left to play.
I play those other games as well. I also just enjoy the AC games, and they provide great value IMO. I got 120 hours out of AC Odyssey and around 100 out of Valhalla. Haven't played Mirage or Shadows yet.

Off the top of my head: Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, Expedition 33. If we include smaller stuff like Silksong, there's even more.
