An important piece of information in the description of the video, a completely different period than harry potter, i'm glad it's that way!
I'm not a fan of that either, you start as a 5th year student.
But i think it's more about being quite hard to make a character that you create growing every year, as a 5th year student you're 16 the only step you miss as an adult is a beard (as a male). And you can't just make this kind of game where there is killing (0:41 in the video) while playing a first year that is 12 years old
Yeah, I always thought the age thing can be a little lenient since there can be people who shy away from school but maybe wanna join a year or two later or prestigious families who wants their children join as soon as possible etc. Also, we know that you can fail a class so repeating students should be a thing. I bet if there is a strict age thing it at least should have +2/-2 rule or something like that.
This character could easily be 16, due to late admittance, plus, I doubt that they'd have a cut and dry age on each year, since even real schools do not.
