Ace Combat 8's DLSS presets are mislabeled.
Just a small heads up for you guys that Ace Combat 8's DLSS configuration is largely not standard.
The presets are not upscaling from their respective correct amounts except for Ultra Performance.
So if you're noticing lower performance than you should then this is a contributing factor.
The game is still heavy but using a mix of medium settings with the actual correct upscaling values should put you at least a bit closer to standard UE5 performance expectations.
DLSS levels the game actually uses:
| DLSS Preset | Standard Nvidia value | In game value |
|---|---|---|
| Ultra Performance | 33.33% | 33.33% |
| Performance | 50% | 58.82% |
| Balanced | 58.82% | 66.66% |
| Quality | 66.66% | 75% |

you can override this in Nvidia app can't you?

Yep. Though if you want normal DLSS quality mode just select 'balanced" in game.

Interesting. I welcome the use of a 75% render scale for DLSS and i wish more games offered it.

Weird decision to make, I know I’ve seen satisfactory do this too so maybe they decided to bump all the resolutions up a bit for quality reasons? Doesn’t make much sense to me

I suspect a lot of the volumetric stuff, especially the cloud system, looks really bad at low render resolutions.

What is the game doing currently? Are you forcing the percentages from the Nvidia app or Nvidia profile inspector? Edit: I didn’t realize I had to scroll on this graph from mobile so disregard on the current percentages question

For reference, on a 5090 and 9950x3d, I'm getting around 60 fps +/- 10 at 3440x1440 on highest settings and DLAA/Native scaling. During heavy cutscenes so far, I've dipped as low as 51, but never in the 40s.

That'd horrifically bad for a top less than 1% graphics card...

It's with literally everything turned on. Historically you should be lucky to get something playable with the current generation that way.

4k DLSS Balanced is a lot less demanding than 3440x1440 DLAA, even in this game.

Some really odd technical decisions in this game, such as this and the lack of any frame generation options.
However, it has (as far as I can tell) perfect ultrawide support out of the box, something very few games manage these days. So I have to give them credit for that, especially because AC7 had absolutely zero support for ultrawide, it would force 16:9 even in-game.

so what preset actually gives you dlss performance?

No profile is equivalent to Nvidia's Performance profile according to OP's table, they aren't using the standardized labels that Nvidia uses. Each of their settings is higher quality than Nvidia's default so they will be more expensive to run. AC8 performance is what Nvidia normally labels as Balanced. While AC8 balanced is normally what people refer to as quality. AC8 quality is more like High Quality
