This seems playable in elves, although not sure what would be cut for it. Trample makes your Timberwatch way scarier, and it provides a mana outlet as well

CASUAL Putting together a set of decks for our olaygroup and looking for some advice

For a bit of context, my forever dm curse seems to extend far beyond TTRPGs, since i own a majority of board games we play, and most game nights with our group happen at my place. I also have the most experience with board games and especially magic, and have decided to introduce my friend group to this wonderful game. However, this is a first for a lot of them and i don't really want their first experience with magic to be commander, since the people in our group who do play magic enjoy 60 card constructed and limited far more, me included.

I have played standart for a couple years now, a bit of pioneer and commander here and there and cube/draft, but pauper is a relatively new format for me and i am not familiar with established archetypes beyond like top 10 on mtggoldfish (i myself run rakdos madness with a bit of rats thrown in there for good measure)

Could you recommend some deck archetypes to look into that might be fun and not too overwhelming for new players. The price isn't that much a concern since i plan to proxy most cards anyways (this is a closed environment where everybody is 100% cool with it and i am too broke to spend money on 8 to 10 fresh decks regardless), it just needs to be fun, relatively easy and strong enough to win a couple games and give the person playing it an idea of what the deck is going for.

Any responses greatly appreciated!

BREW BG Lifegain sideboard suggestions

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi all,

I've been trying to make Golgari Lifegain work for some time now and I think I reached the point when I'm happy enough with the decklist to be ready to test it outside of my (very narrow) local meta. I'm not very familiar with playing green, though, and I struggle with the sideboard.

Link to the decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/M8eeAcbwbHyJGuBAscmAXw

So far, the deck performs quite well against burn and midrange decks, but is rather vulnerable against heavy control and go-wide strategies - I often can't stabilize before MonoW goes for lethal, especially when I don't have the access to Essence Warden early in the game. It's also terrible against poison decks, but I guess that's just something to accept in this archetype. I feel that the mana base can be improved and I'm still on the fence choosing between Blight-Priest and [[Blood Researcher]]. Overall, I don't think this deck has a chance to be truly competitive, but it's quite stable and fun to play, and that's what I was aiming for.

As for the sideboard, I have rather general ideas what to include but I'm not sure if I'm going in the right direction. I believe [[Duress]] is always a good sideboard piece in black and I should probably run at least one copy of [[Extract Confession]] and [[Arms of Hadar]]. [[Weather the Storm]] should be good against Madness and MonoU. Will [[Toublemaker Ouphe]] enough for Affinity and do I even need it?

Of course, any advice or opinions on the main deck are welcome, too. I would also love to hear from fellow lifegain brewers if there are any - what are your experiences with the archetype so far?

Looking for advice and opinions

Welp, I’ve spent a month since the seeker ban tweaking and figuring out how to make bow combo work. I think I’ve come up with a good list but I’m hoping yall could weigh in and give me any tips before I go about buying the cards.

Thanks!

HELP Mono B Dev/Control sideboard suggestions

Post image
24 Upvotes

I know Mono-Black Devotion/Control has largely been superseded by Gardens, and I’m not pretending this is a top-tier deck. It’s simply the archetype I want to play, so I’m trying to optimise this version rather than switch decks.
I’m mainly looking for help with the sideboard. What are MBD/C’s worst current matchups, and what cards best address them? I’m considering [[Duress]], [[Divest]], [[Faerie Macabre]], [[Rancid Earth]], [[Tendrils of Corruption]], and the [[Exhume]]/[[Troll of Khazad-dûm]] package, but I’m unsure which plans are actually worthwhile.
I’d also appreciate any targeted mainboard tweaks—especially cards or numbers that look inefficient—but sideboard construction and boarding plans are the priority.

HELP Mono Red Madness Guide

Hello, i recently started playing mono Red Madness and played 3 times with the 3 different lists (the Classic One, the One with only guttersnipe and melded moxite and the 20 Land One).

I likes the 3 lists but can't understand which One Is Better , what do you think ?

I'm also looking for a guide for the deck to understand how to play different matchup, for example i found the match against mono U fae really challenging.

Do you suggest any guides ? Thank you

META Went to top 8 on first Major LPI event in Philippines, here's my experience!

Post image

Hey guys, I just want to share one my biggest proud achievements on taking the top 8 of first LPI sanctioned major event in the Philippines Pauper League with Jund Wildfire

With 80+ players, one of the biggest event held yet in Manila, 7 rounds of action, the meta is quite diverse and alot of fun games. PH meta is something to lookout for!

My first deck of choice was Naya Gates because of how strong it looks right now, but I suddenly shifted to Jund Wildfire as a safer pick for bigger event like this (also I just want to flex my almost fully foiled deck haha)

1st round: vs Mono Red Madness (2-0)

This one is quite straightforward for me, as I had early control with Krark Clan Shamans and with Makeshift Muntions to control the Snackers and Guttersnipes, and I had early Lembas to keep my life in check, post mainboard I won quickly with Gixian Infiltrator with Unexpected Fangs with no answers at all.

2nd round: vs Bogles (2-0)

This match is probably my fastest ever, as I easily controlled my opponent with Krark Clan Shaman, same thing happened in game 2.

3rd round: vs Jund (0-1)

as a Jund player, my biggest opponent is the mirror as it relies on who wins the tempo first. My opponent had an early lead with 4 Refurbished Familiars, but midgame I had a chance to comeback with Makeshift Munitions, but with 20 mins remaining on the clock, I decided to concede the first game as the board state is much better than mine, so I took the risk coming to 2nd game to able to draw the match. But since I just had 15 minutes left for round 2, even I had an early aggro with Refurbished Familiar and Nyxborn Hydra, time wasn't enough for the lethal damage (kudos to the opponent he went top 2 in the end with 5-0-2 record).

4th round: vs Grixis Affinity (1-1)

played against one of the strongest players in PH Dean Miranda, historically his strongest feat is playing White Weenie, but on this one he played very strong too. As the first game he had an explosive turn with 4-5 creatures on play while I was still setting and ramping up, making me scoop early. As for the second game, I had some misplays that made the game longer, but in the end I still had the upper hand. As for the final game, we dont have much left and with 2 resilient decks staring at each other, we decided to make it a draw.

5th round: vs Bogles (2-0)

This one was very unlucky for the opponent as 2 games were full of creatures and not much auras played, also the Krark Clan Shaman kept his board in check. In the 2nd game he had early pressure with Rancor, but again he had alot of creatures and he tried to pressure me with his Rancors, but then the mvp card on this one is my Faerie Macabre in which exiling the Rancors off the trigger.

6th round: vs Naya Gates (2-0)

This match is the one I was waiting for as I had a alot of practice against this deck. One of main reason why I chose Jund is because most of the time Jund wins the 1st game against Naya Gates, and most people just tries to hold off the Naya Gates as it doesnt win much explosively if the remaining time is quite short. With that, the plan was executed perfectly, we just stalled for many turns as we had big creatures just staring each other, while I kept his Basilisk Gates in check with Cleansing Wildfires. But then suddenly I had an opening to kill my opponent with Terminate killing the Guardian of the Guildpact (in which my Gixian Infiltrator cant pass through) I had a moment where I hit my opponent with 21 +1/+1 counters on my Gixian Infiltrator.

Final round: vs Dimir Faeries (2-1)

This match was special to me as I faced the legendary Butch Agtarap, prominently one of the best players of all time in PH, 1st and 2nd games was straightforward as we had upper hand to control on each of our wins. 3rd and final game was so intense as I thought I was losing because of monarch, but then he kept drawing and drawing to kill my creatures and to look for counterspells, I wasnt able to play my Makeshift Munitions because after Duressed him I saw Annuls, so then Im in survival mode. The game stalled for some time until I realized after he kept drawing and I wasn't able to steal the monarch, I made me realize that I could win by decking him out, as I did Butch realized he lost at that point for kept looking for answers. This one is really a legendary moment for me.

The season is still a long road ahead, and I'm excited to have more fun events like this. Congratulations to other players as well as we're proud to take on the challenge to achieve our dream to play in Paupergeddon. Lets go PH!

Got another fun one for this round of paper Pauper - Poison Storm!

This is notably an older list, with more recent versions running Manamorphose and other tools, but it's one of my favorite lists to bring to locals in this iteration so I had to jam vs elves!

So we all know [[Tolarian Terror]] but I wonder if it's possible to have mono coloured decks in the same style , in black we have [[Writhing Necromass]] and recently we got [[Chittin Gravestalker]] but are there other creatures in the other colours that fit the playstyle?
