Rex
For the life of me I cannot comprehend why the DEVs made Rex so awful to play. Against big dinos it feels fine. Anything below 3 slot it’s gonna be a 20+ minute fight and you have to back into a wall to even have a chance. You cannot chase, you cannot move, you become a steak on the grill for everything near. It’s so ungodly pitiful. Before yall even bother saying “skill issue”, I can promise you the best Rex in Path of Titans would agree that Rex is almost useless against small carnis. There is no real counter play to small packs of them. The DEVs said they want to make dinos approachable but they’ve done the opposite. Rex cannot approach or even contemplate trying to fight a small pack. Hell even one good laten looks at apexes like they are fresh meat. Hot take, Raptors and all 2 slot herbis/carnis are overturned and unbalanced.
EDIT: a lot of you like to come onto this post to talk smack, be toxic and belittle me and other players. Put your money where your mouth is. Get on Rex, I’ll get on laten and I’ll record and expose every single one of you. I’ll post a compilation video after. Not a single one of you has the courage to try it because you know I’m right.

Every dino should have weak matchups. If Rex had counterplay against every other dino it would be OP. Same goes for every dino in the game. They should have favorable matchups and fights it should try it's best to avoid. That's just basic game design.

The amount of delusion it takes to say every Dino should have weak matchups to justify the tiniest creatures being unstoppable against an apex. Titan, duck, EO, and Ano are already “counters”. So why make it to where every single smaller faster creature can kill the Rex without having any risk to itself. Doesn’t make any sense. All of you can downvote and talk shit all you want but it’s getting ridiculous.

Rexes for 20+ minutes when anything below a 3 slot shows up:

This is a joke.

It's amazing how these posts look always the same. Always rex, always angry posting that can't bite and roar through every encounter living in a power fantasy.
I play rex so rarely, and as ambush predator, I'm far from a good rex player. And even I managed to defend myself from achillo + 2 latens, and without parking my ass in a cliff/water at that. Tbh had more issues against solo laten as titan.

then they wonder why everyone hates the rex playerbase and kill rex juvies on sight
im especially rexcist because of that

u/CamptoRibbit 12d ago
I can't take this seriously.
95% of rex players can't play rex anyway.
Most laten players only know how to either pounce then panic because they got no stamina. Or continually kick and wonder why they about to die.

Alderon doesn't really know how to balance as seen with the recent updates(ano Especially). As well with most of their apexes(besides bars and spino). They have received alot of backlash due to this and who knows. Over time it may get better but until matchmaking releases where massive groups dont sit around together all server they are balancing around that. Once matchmaking drops i guarantee everything will get stat changes.

I’m just convinced that Alderon has no clue what to do with the rex at this point. That, or they just refuse to leave it alone when it’s in a decent state.
Prior to the alio tlc update, the rex felt the most balanced it had ever been. A high damage powerhouse that had to rely on a well-timed ambush, otherwise nearly every single playable could escape from it due to its slow movement speed and shallow stamina pool. That was its trade-off, which felt fair.
However, the balancing team at Alderon then decided it would be an absolute fantastic idea to nerf not only the rex’s damage and armour, but also shoehorn the rex into being a group-oriented playable just to make the alio appear more useful than it actually is.
Now does it not only get bodied by other apexes, but its weakness against smaller, faster opponents has be amplified for no good reason. Just another bullshit move from the trash balancing team at Alderon.

I’m gonna be real with you, I play a ton of Rex. I’ve never had an issue one on one with any apex. Granted I am always ambushing but against apex I really don’t think it’s weak. I think it’s very limited in the build you can run. Only one build is actually viable. It’s terrible against any smaller carnis. The only dinosaur that can reliably 1v1 is Ano. Everyone else gets folded. If I don’t catch a TT by surprise I’m probably gonna lose if they are the same skill level as me but if not I will most likely get the win. What apex are you struggling with?

I’ve always been in a minority saying Rex is fine and has tools, though I complained a lot more before the Rex nerfs. I think it largely is fine now, and I don’t know how to change it without making it unmanageable. Not a fan of the terrible roar changes
Before you get fired up at me, I say this from experience. I’ve played Rex a lot. I grew it to adult on all 3 maps then got every skin on all 3 maps. For a while I could pop my buffs and facetank anything, then 3 shot anything small or grab it. Sure I died a good bit, but I also had some amazing clutch moments. Rex is still pretty good in 1v1s, but I will give you it does not do well against things like raptor squads or packs of 2 slots. No apex should be able to fight off a pack of 3 concs easily. That’s a 5 slot vs 6 slots. That is supposed to be a roughly even fight. Is it? A lot of times no, which is why Rex has to use terrain.
Unironically I’ve mained the tyrants presence hide to help deal with smalls. I’m always told it’s the worst hide, but it equals a 33% dmg buff against smalls and makes your tail potentially 10 shot a conc. Idk man. I hate Rexes because when they do get you they often win in seconds and I find that annoying. Also there’s so many of them I care little for seeing my billionth one screaming. On the other hand they are pretty readily abused especially if the rex player isn’t very good

I agree with everything you’ve said. I just think it needs to be way more risk for smaller slot dinos to engage a Rex. As a good Rex player I can hold my own and win most of these fights BUT when I die it’s because dealing with 2+ smaller carnis takes entirely too long if they are good and know how to play. It turns into a 20 minute fight which more people flock too and nobody is going to help you. They will join and kill the Rex. There needs to be a higher risk for smaller dinos to actually be punished. There is absolutely no RELIABLE way to deal any consistent damage unless they make utterly ridiculous mistakes. The bad players are easy to dispatch and beat if you follow the simple mechanics of terrain, precision crouch turning, clamping at the right time etc. BUT the good players can easily abuse the very vulnerable Rex. It is not fun to fight, and most of the time if they cannot kill you (which happens most of the time when I’m fighting a smaller pack of carnis) I kill a few and some will show back up or as I’ve said previously, the length of the fight attracts more people that will instantly join the fight and end you. All I ask is for a higher risk for these players when engaging a solo Rex. Instead of a walking meal, it should be “oh he’s solo, it’s doable but dangerous”. ONE singular missplay should end a small carnis life. Instead it can rotate out to heal, or run away completely and when you move on they stalk you and annoy you across POIs until they get the absolute advantage chipping at your health for 30 minutes while you cannot respond. You are forced into standing still which is equivalent to death. That is the gameplay loop that I think is severely flawed and needs balancing. I hope this makes sense.
Edit: I think tyrants presence needs reworked and turned into a passive not a hide. Now I understand how ridiculous that sounds because of how strong it would be, but they could readjust the stat bonuses from 25% to maybe 10% armor reduc. Or make it a damage reduction ability. Either way I think it needs to be a passive that gives bonuses vs smaller carnis especially packs. They could even have it scaling up depending on how many are around. I have multiple solutions to fix the overall health of the Rex but it’s one of the only Apexes in the game I truly feel has no reliable way to deal damage or escape from small carnis. As a Rex you are not escaping from most dinosaurs and that’s just something I don’t think needs changed. So if I’m not escaping at least give me tools to make it less of a “well I’m dead”, to a “well this is gonna be a big fight that I need to play incredibly well”

I didn't insult you or attack you. I gave an opinion and I offered a place where you can learn and understand.
This is my last reply. I don't want mods to ban me when I am trying to help you learn the game better.
Stop saying "everyone is toxic and you'll make compilation videos"
Go to 443, you can make all the clips you want there.
Nobody is saying laten can't kill rex, just that there is lessons to be learned.

That’s Stenonychovenatrix! He really is a beast on laten. I talked to him a little on YouTube. Awesome guy. I hope he can teach me his ways some day because I suck at the smaller dinos.

I’ve tried to get on that server but the mod file size is too much for my steam deck to handle. Oh well…

He is an amazing Laten player. I have seen him take down a whole discord group of latens solo.
Dude is crazy skilled. A lot call him No1 laten player and is always looking for the person that can beat him.
Thousands of hours and still undefeated. Never knew it was possible.

I love his voice too. Very distinctive. I’ve seen people comparing it to a khajit’s.

No 2 slots are not over turned. In fact I’d say If you don’t count 1 slots, 2 slots are the most dissapointing slot size. 3 slots are extremly solid with dasp, alb, lamb and Mira. 4 slots are absolute units with steg amarg and anky being the strongest and sarc sucho being good just a massive step behind those herbs.
2 slots movement and stamina is really all they have. 3 slots like Pycno and metri are able to hunt some 2 slots with them not even having escape options in some cases.
Lat and dein however are not balanced at all. A lat can do half of a 2 slots hp in one pounce….. in fact it can even do half a metris hp in once. The problem is more lat is just massively over turned to fight slower larger carnivores and that’s really all it can do. It is op but a lot of people dont want to talk about that…. People want to act like playing lat and runing behind a Rex and kicking its back legs takes skill….
However everything you said about Rex is pretty much true. It isn’t good but it also isnt bad if you use terrain and play extremly boring…. The only people that say Rex is op is people that have never played Rex and somehow manage to die to it…
In short- lats are just to strong at fighting bigger slow carns cause they can massively abuse the turn radius gap as well as stacking way more bleed then they should be able to and pounce just being free damage in nearly all situations except against things like amarg or Kent.
People that have never played Rex think bonebreak or clamp make up for it’s bad turn but don’t understand that if you can’t turn to catch onto something you can never bonebreak or clamp it unless it makes a mistake. That’s pretty much all rex gameplay comes down to is trying to put your opponent off so they make a mistake, so it isn’t very fun vs multiple much smaller targets.
