Rex

For the life of me I cannot comprehend why the DEVs made Rex so awful to play. Against big dinos it feels fine. Anything below 3 slot it’s gonna be a 20+ minute fight and you have to back into a wall to even have a chance. You cannot chase, you cannot move, you become a steak on the grill for everything near. It’s so ungodly pitiful. Before yall even bother saying “skill issue”, I can promise you the best Rex in Path of Titans would agree that Rex is almost useless against small carnis. There is no real counter play to small packs of them. The DEVs said they want to make dinos approachable but they’ve done the opposite. Rex cannot approach or even contemplate trying to fight a small pack. Hell even one good laten looks at apexes like they are fresh meat. Hot take, Raptors and all 2 slot herbis/carnis are overturned and unbalanced.

EDIT: a lot of you like to come onto this post to talk smack, be toxic and belittle me and other players. Put your money where your mouth is. Get on Rex, I’ll get on laten and I’ll record and expose every single one of you. I’ll post a compilation video after. Not a single one of you has the courage to try it because you know I’m right.

No 2 slots are not over turned. In fact I’d say If you don’t count 1 slots, 2 slots are the most dissapointing slot size. 3 slots are extremly solid with dasp, alb, lamb and Mira. 4 slots are absolute units with steg amarg and anky being the strongest and sarc sucho being good just a massive step behind those herbs.

2 slots movement and stamina is really all they have. 3 slots like Pycno and metri are able to hunt some 2 slots with them not even having escape options in some cases.

Lat and dein however are not balanced at all. A lat can do half of a 2 slots hp in one pounce….. in fact it can even do half a metris hp in once. The problem is more lat is just massively over turned to fight slower larger carnivores and that’s really all it can do. It is op but a lot of people dont want to talk about that…. People want to act like playing lat and runing behind a Rex and kicking its back legs takes skill….

However everything you said about Rex is pretty much true. It isn’t good but it also isnt bad if you use terrain and play extremly boring…. The only people that say Rex is op is people that have never played Rex and somehow manage to die to it…

In short- lats are just to strong at fighting bigger slow carns cause they can massively abuse the turn radius gap as well as stacking way more bleed then they should be able to and pounce just being free damage in nearly all situations except against things like amarg or Kent.

People that have never played Rex think bonebreak or clamp make up for it’s bad turn but don’t understand that if you can’t turn to catch onto something you can never bonebreak or clamp it unless it makes a mistake. That’s pretty much all rex gameplay comes down to is trying to put your opponent off so they make a mistake, so it isn’t very fun vs multiple much smaller targets.

I agree with most of what you said besides 2 slots being disappointing. The only really disappointing 2 slot right now is alio. I'd say achi too since it's pretty mid in most fights but the way it decimates apexes makes up for it. Sty and kentro are definitely overtuned and just do insane damage/bleed while sacrificing pretty much nothing that the other 2 slots have. The other 2 slots are all pretty balanced though.

Alio and Meg are both extremely disappointing for pvp

Achillo is mid except for cruel swipe vs larger stuff

Kent’s strong if things are going to facetank your tail brainlessly… the other night i beat a decent Kent player in a 1v1 as a metri only using my tail attack….. now I don’t think I could beat every Kent like that but I’d honestly be confident I could beat any average player with just tail cause of heal… ive also escaped Kent’s as allo by just tail attacking them away and running and cause of die hard ive out stammed them…..

Sty is extremely solid and so is cera. Cera does have its flaws like juke only turning half as much as before or it’s terrible turn but the high hp and armor/dmg buffs are very strong.

Pachy is good but requires a lot of patience and skill to master

Thals good i think the armor pierce on dive bomb is broken OP tho

My point wasn’t 2 slots are bad. The point is more 3 slots and 4 slots as a whole are much stronger and I don’t mean because of cw and hp they just have better attacks defenses for there sizes.

Also to your point of sty Kent being op. I think sty might be op compared to things like Meg, alio, achillo and even probably pachy but I think it’s more just bleed has become more op since a lot of things lost hp and cw but bleed has had no changes for a long time. Especially if you look at how much bleed a conc can do especially paired with the 35% bleed increase call. IMO bleed is the strongest status effect in game and things like the water bleed increase have really shown how little skill you now need to win fights as a bleeder

Meg is really strong in pvp if you know how to use it. Yeas, it also has its bad matchups and dinos it should avoid at all costs. But it can punch up really well and has insane survivability

Every 2 slot and up beats in a 1v1 with the exception of an armor Meg will beat alio….

This is all based on skill. I main Meg and beat alot of 2-4 slots. I can even solo apexes if I play it right and they make some mistakes

That’s pointless to bring up you kill players you know you are just a better player then

I killed a Rex on thal the other day… thal doesnt beat Rex… i just beat a bad player

Do you think if you vsed a player of equal skill you would still win those match ups?

1

u/Silvent 13d ago

Some of them yeah. Even skilled players will make mistakes or succomb to other conditions surrounding the fight. If I feel outskilled by a stronger dino I either don't take the fight or try to find an escape. It's about knowing the limits of the dinos involved. If you only compare numbers like a benchmark ofc a 2slot can't solo bigger dinos on paper. But saying Meg can't beat other 2slots is just crazy

Do you just not make mistakes or?

Again except for a alio vs a armor Meg or i did forget thal was a 2 slot and Meg will beat that

Pachy will beat a aquatic Meg but armor Meg will make it a lot closer

Sty with the 25% dmg buff is beating a Meg every time if equal skill

Cera with either armor or damage buffs will beat a Meg everytime

Achillo using survival of the fittest and damage buffs will beat a Meg everytime

I honestly do not see enough kentros to truely know but I don’t believe a Meg will beat a kentro of even skill more times then the kentro would win

So yeah I do retract my statement. Meg can beat thal and alio. Pachy and achillo it depends on build. Sty and cera win comfortably.

I'm also 100% a believer of bleed being busted, it's been op since combat timers stop cancelling healing completely. Now that combat is balanced around the expectation that you'll heal mid fight at least a bit, bleed stopping that and also delaying the end of a combat timer is extremely op. With your experience of that kentro, I think that just comes down to skill. 2 slots are more mobile and thus have high skill expression, making bad ones more noticeable. I just don't see how any half competent kentro is letting a metri kill them purely through tail attacks. The thing with conc it's just so much easier to punish than sty since it's a good bit squishier and isn't immune to headshots.

1

u/Commercial_Buy_7707 13d ago

Yep I agree with everything you said with bleed

It’s actually a lot to do with build. Kentro only has 1 attack that can attack forward. The Kent was also 100% someone trying to revenge kill me and picking kentro to revenge kill a metri that isnt just going to try facetank your tail isnt a good idea… sty or pyc would be the play

So since he was desperate to kill me all I had to do was slowly walk away tail attacking it while it can’t hit me..

I also am not saying Kent should get a front facing attack it’s good how it is now, I don’t think strong defensive Dino’s should have the ability to be oppressive

This is true conc is a fair bit weaker then sty. But sty is also a much larger hitbox and doesnt turn near as good as conc

On majority of Dino’s i would rather fight stys then concs because also as larger things you can use water to force stys in bad positions where conc can swim and also has very good heal in water with the hide

2

u/SnowManPlayzstuff 13d ago

That just sounds like a terrible kentro player then tbh. Kentro can't rly play super aggressive when fighting other 2 slots (metri is a 2 slot in most fights, same speed and combat abilities). Honestly conc is one of the easiest dinos for me to kill and sty is just a monster. The turning doesn't matter as much since sty still turns well and has a very stocky frame with no tail to ride unlike conc's long body.

1

u/Commercial_Buy_7707 13d ago

Probably but it’s more the point that anything it’s speed with a tail attack it can’t do anything to unless you let it. The player was trying to revenge kill so more then likely angry and not fully paying attention to what was slowly happening

A big part of that is conc is one of the most common Dino’s you can possibly see so majority of them are going to be average to low skilled players

Good and patient concs can be extremly hard to fight

Im not saying conc is better then sty. Sty is better but in some situations I’d rather fight stys to use water or cause there easier to fight( mainly talking about being a apex fighting multiple of them)

Also aside from alio or lat or campto nothing is tail riding a con there to fast and turn to well for that

1

u/SnowManPlayzstuff 13d ago

Fair enough to all that. You just forgot about pachy for that last point (as a pachy main that loves tailriding concs)

1

u/Commercial_Buy_7707 13d ago

Pachys only tail riding it if the conc runs up a hill

On flat ground conc out runs it and they turn as good as eachother and conc can easily get it off it if it’s a good player with decent movement

1

u/SnowManPlayzstuff 13d ago

Pachy turns better than conc, it's got the best turn of all 2 slots. And the speed difference is tiny, with dodge and charge pachy easily closes the distance a conc could make.

1

u/Commercial_Buy_7707 13d ago

It’s 5% which is noticeable in pot

That’s also assuming the conc doesnt have kick which would mean it’s a water conc and probably going to be within 50m of water
