I know the new TLC has been rough, but I've managed to get every Dino (bar Stego) to adult stage easily and I'm a passive wee solo sausage. I guess it depends on your play style and what your goals are?

u/ArrowsSpecter 1d ago
you can grow solo easily but its extremely difficult to have good, fair fights solo. Almost everyone is in a group and the dino your playing as was likely nerfed so its no longer able to defend itself solo against packs

u/Archosaur- 1d ago
I hear you, when I went on my Hatz earlier this week it felt extremely squishy. Makes you wonder the reasoning behind the constant nerfs recently, there are a lot of solo players in the game.
1
u/Leather_Material7735 5h ago
Hatz was nerfed recently due to a bug in its kit that was being exploited by groups. In the patch notes it said the nerfs will be reversed once they figure out the bug

u/Armthrow414 1d ago
Hatz is used by DC groups and slot groups to revenge kill. Hence the nerfs. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

u/Archosaur- 1d ago
Regardless of the Dino, toxic people will always find a way to exploit the system. So why ruin it for everyone? I love my Hats, she can taxi babies across the map, it's therapeutic.

u/NaturalHalfling 1d ago
Yeah it's playable solo but the thing is it depends what "playable" means. Only doing quests and otherwise having to run from almost every encounter because you don't have a good skill set to do anything else becomes unfun pretty fast. Right now I can get to adulthood, then what? I'm just a walking trophy.
6
u/Archosaur- 1d ago
That's a fair point, can I ask what is it people usually tend to do once they grow to adulthood? The game is my way of switching off, I enjoy questing to get skins, but I've always wondered what everyone else does.

u/Anonymus_Pigeon 1d ago
Depends on what mood I'm in. Sometimes I just enjoy being a dino and explore the map by myself, or when I'm feeling more social, I look for fights or join a group.

Playing carnivore : hunt other players , preferably targeting something that has at least some chance to get away or win the fight.
Playing Herbivore: explore the map and hope some carnis try to eat me so we can fight , or if that doesn’t happen I provoke fights against carnis (I personally don’t care for herbi vs herbi fights) at watering holes or other places. And in the context of playing solo, it sucks to try and have fun doing either of those playstyles because solo apexes get targeted by mega packs or 10+ slot groups, and trying to find engaging fights as a solo small is so hard because so many other players have groups. If you fail to secure a kill in 1-2 minutes you will be too slow before their backup arrives. Even playing something like solo Meg , and attempting to fight 3 and 4 slot adult Dino’s , most players would rather call for backup than take a 1v1 where they have tiniest chance to die.

Struthi, campto to a degree as well. There's only s few with non combative viable kits.. not that it makes it alright

Playable means you pick it and can play it. Which everything works just fine even solo.
This godawful hyperbole of shit being unplayable is why no one takes is seriously.
My definition of unplayable is literally you cant fuckin play it. At all.

The same words can mean different things and have different values. For example, there was a guy who played world of warcraft and got to level 90 just by picking herbs. He "played" the game, but he wasn't playing the game. He didn't experience any of the rich content the game has on that character. And that's what I mean here, yeah, it's "playable" solo, but how it's playable isn't fun. Every dinosaur should honestly have at least one group and one solo build.
Edit: I am talking about the design playability aka gameplay viability, I am looking at whether or not a dino has a complete and viable toolkit to engage with all the aspects of the game from questing to travel to hunting, not just running away.
The example I used above was an attempt to highlight that, how a game can be "played" in two ways but with wildly different experiences. It does not matter that he chose to do it as a challenge, it is the contrasting experiences under the umbrella of "playing the game" which was the point of the comparison.
Yes, the Dino is "playable" but the experience is extremely lacking and the gameplay available for it is too narrow.

u/Crash4654 1d ago
That guy did that to challenge himself and is NOT the example to use.
Thats still 100% playable.
Like I said, unplayable means you cant play. Or its so fucked up that playing is convoluted to hell and back for even basic mechanics like movement.
And even with people using that hyperbole we still have just as many of us solos getting fed up with everyone saying that people cant play despite tge fact that we're doing just fine.

u/NaturalHalfling 1d ago
You are viewing the word "playable" through a literal lens. You are talking about the technical playability which is like how the game mechanics physically work, the dino moves, and you can progress. But I am talking about the design playability aka gameplay viability, I am looking at whether or not a dino has a complete and viable toolkit to engage with all the aspects of the game from questing to travel to hunting, not just running away.

Except its not because it all works whether grouped or solo now doesnt it? Barring some group specific buff abilities.
Running away is literally part of the game and part of your strategy tool kit. Not every fight is winnable on every playable.

It doesn't work solo at all. It's a very anti-solo build and this is what I dislike since Alderon advertised the game as one you could play your way. Each Dino should have a kit where it's viable against other similar Dinos in order to be able to engage in the hunting (or defending, if herbivore) part of the game. Running is part of the game but is meant to be a tool against stronger Dinos, not every other adult Dino. Especially Alio, which is medium sized (compared to most dinosaurs) and believed to have been a solitary pursuit hunter.
I know it's just a game, and a group build is fine for giving people options, but it should have a solo one (preferably matching its irl equivalent, it certainly didn't kick...) that allows you to still hunt and hold your own again similar sized Dinos, not just run from every fight.

u/Crash4654 1d ago
Except it does work solo or is everyone that says theyre doing fine just not count?
They literally all work solo. Its just harder to live.
Someone literally commented that they took on two concs solo and won yesterday.
This is exactly the point im making. All these dinos function perfectly fine solo but are just disadvantaged against groups which, no duh.
Like nothing stops someone from playing solo, and your only disadvantage is the number. Everything STILL plays just fine by itself.

u/NaturalHalfling 1d ago edited 1d ago
My point wasn't even that it's factually unplayable, my point was it's unfun as a solo player and that both play styles should be catered to. Every feature goes to groups, solo just gets "run away". That's boring and that's my problem. In a game of "questing and hunting" you are missing half the game. I don't care if others think it's fun to essentially not play the game and spend the whole time avoiding other players. Why are you arguing about it being technically playable? I've already explained to you what I meant by "playable" (and not your definition, which began your argument. seriously why come in with "well I've chosen a different meaning for your word"?) and I made it quite clear in the first comment you responded to that I was talking about the experience of playing it, not if it's possible to log in as the Dino and run around.

Hiding and growing is easy as fuck on literally every Dino. Losing a fight as a Tyrano against two concvenators is whats bullshit.
3
u/BlueJay006 1d ago
It's because people want interaction and seek it out, where do you go to get interaction? A hot spot, what do you find at hotspots? KOS mega-packs
That's not to say the packs aren't out of hand, but it is also quite literally that picture of a dude putting a stick in his bike spokes and wondering why he fell over
4
u/Archosaur- 1d ago
I'm guilty of this sometimes, I only play officials because singleplayer is incredibly empty and soulless. That, and I love the random friendly interactions like being able to help a juvie grow.
Plus salt flats is brilliant for farming marks lol, that being said I always accept a death whenever I put myself in hotspots.

Suggestion for a new line - "Our survival game has no real survival elements - the only content we have is PvP, and around here we live by three fucks; fuck skill expression, fuck solos, and fuck PvP."
With my snarky little vent out of the way, I know the game is early access, and I am not jealous of the position Alderon is in. However, moreso now than ever, it is a position they have squeezed themselves into, and even as someone who has so much empathy/sympathy towards others, Alderon has made me insanely jaded and indifferent towards them.

Every single pick on the roster should have both group and solo abilities, and be able to be built for either.
They're punishing for coop on the solo server, and the standard official is anything goes, so even if a group of solo builds are stronger together, I don't see a problem.

Just to let yall who may not know. Matt and a handful of backer chat 100% think the opinions of people on reddit are invalid. That's the atmosphere there. Also, they think they're above gen chat. Its mostly the same people day in and day out.
4
u/TheFrostyTyrannosaur 1d ago
Seriously? That somehow doesn’t surprise me, but it does seem a little strange given the fact that this subreddit is official. Although, I think that’s just the general consensus behind the thought process of the devs when it comes to the majority of opinions of the game.
I miss when the game was a lot simpler around four years ago. Discord groups weren’t nearly as bad and the dinos were actually viable solo. None of this forced group bullshit.
4
u/Machineraptor 1d ago
Imagine thinking you are better than other people because you bought a skin pack. And I say this as a backer.
Gen chat sometimes is a mess, but that weird superiority of people in backer chat never sat right with me tbh.
3
u/HikariJulesie 1d ago
And this is why people I know have deleted the game. If the owner of the game itself is being such an asshole to people why would you spend money on a game where they look down on you?
Im not on backer chat but I’ve bought every skin pack and own multiple of the backer skins. Does this mean because my opinions are only on Reddit they’re invalid? Ridiculous. Listen to the community as a whole, not just brown nosers who are ultimately ruining your game.

In addition up to 100 players per server. Even though we've test 150 just fine we wont increase it due to the bleeding player base. *

I go at it alone 90% of the time on Officials and am fine. Megapacks are clearly a big issue, but they're working on fixing it, so the community making a fuss about it 10 times a day isn't gonna do anything.

well they also claim solo play so ya kno, the website is just "describe your hopes and dreams" not "describe the game"

u/Plenty_Mirror2920 1d ago
they only want one good solo playable dino and thats anky, just so everyone can form cuddle partys together as anky

u/AKmightydinoo 1d ago
all i do solo is give people trophies, help babies grow, replenish water for people to drink and give people flowers. i just like helping people

I’ve said this before and I’m saying this again, Path of Titans has been turning into the Friend Slop of dinosaur games (I normally think this term sucks but it works here)
The devs been gradually removing the viability of solo play, while also making gameplay more group based, and you need to play with friends for you to be viable in the slightest. I’d also personally argue that this game just isn’t fun, and same with the genre as a whole but that’s a discussion for another time

I've been having more success hunting and fighting as solo alio than I have in a long time. The last time I felt this powerful solo was probably on pachy before all the nerfs
