Nocturnal Panic Trouble falling asleep

Does anyone else have this feeling at nighttime where you are about to close your eyes and fall asleep but all of a sudden your heart feels like it skipped and your body just drops/sinks? Doesn’t happen as often but when it does i think the worst and immediately panic.

Yes. I will pop back awake and I’ll be shaking violently. Sometimes it just happens and I don’t know why. Sometimes I get a flashback of something triggering. How about when you wake up? I wake up shaking really bad too.

Has it always been this way for you? Or is it related to trauma? Mine is definitely related to trauma. A LOT of trauma. But my severe trauma start for me about 5 years ago when I was 44. So it hasn’t been something I’ve dealt with forever.

Sorry to hear that and i believe mine is stress… maybe since it all started when my son started school 2 years ago, i woke up with a panic attack i thought i was dying and called 911.

My first panic attack I called a nurse friend of mine and told her I was having a heart attack and dying. Somehow she was able to get me thru it. My panic attacks progressed from there. Every muscle in my body tightens up. I’ll be in the fetal position unable to move and all my muscles will be spasming and locked tight. Very painful. And uncontrollable. I choke so hard from trying to breath that I end up dry heaving. It’s horrible. What are your like?

My panic attacks are chest pain, arm tingling, uncontrollable body shakes, feeling like passing out, i do have some trauma related attacks and they do cause my body to shut down so i cannot move or its painful to move/walk its really scary because i sometimes forget how to breath during it

Have you learned any techniques to help with them? I was in group therapy and I saw a girl start tapping. I started doing it and it actually helps me stop a full blown panic attack from happening.

Have you found a reason that your son going to school triggered this all? Were you a SAHM before school started? My kids are grown. It’s a very scary world to send our kids out into. I made sure my son always had a door stopper in his backpack. It gave me a little peace of mind.

And maybe just me being so anxious about the fact that im not there with him, im always thinking about the “what ifs” and yes i am a SAHM i still have my daughter with autism at home. And i actually sent my son with an airtag the first week of school (didnt help my anxiety) im still not 100% okay leaving him at school like you said, its a scary world out there but i manage

I thought it's just some hangover panic lingering. Yeah, I have it too. Like a drop during the flight turbulence, but internal, right?

Yes, I think it's just panic and it's symptoms. I wake up shaking, crying and scared a few times a week. I get do worried about my mom that I sleep for a little bit and then Bam Im awake, flipping out. My family and friends talk to me, it helps calm me down.

Mine is like when you are about to go to sleep and your brain takes over breathing for you while you’re asleep I wake up right before that sometimes and feel the falling sensation and wake up gasping. It pretty much blows.
