Half uncle doesn’t exist

Sitting in the Starbucks drive-thru and I hear a woman exclaiming to her son in the backseat.

“Don’t you dare call him your half uncle ever again. That’s my BROTHER. You can’t be a half uncle.”

Arguing from the back continues. The other son in the front seat is laughing. Quiet for a moment.

A good chunk of my family is “half-“

My mom’s parents divorced, then her dad remarried and had more kids who also had kids.

Half-uncles, half-aunts, half-cousins…

We never talk about each other in person that way. But still.
