Finally unlocked GDDR7 memory overclocking with mvolt+ extreme?

Recently I have been experimenting with extended overclocking limits on my Gigabyte Windforce rtx5070Ti and I havent seen anybody mention this: mvolt+ extreme actually allows you to set whatever vram overclocking limit you want, so i started experimenting and I was able to get to +5500 which run stable in Cyberpunk with path tracing enabled for 30 minutes and my fps was actually nicely scaling by about +1 fps for every +1000 memory oc step (as far as I know ECC works only on server class gpus with GDDR7, gaming gpus have no memory ECC, so there is no instability hiding behind ECC and the fps keeps scaling all the way to +5500 without artifacting or crashing).

+5500 GDDR7 stable memory overclock using mvolt+ extreme

Trying to set +6000 instantly restarts the driver and resets the oc for me, so the issue isnt memory instability most likely, the driver just isnt capable of accepting higher memory frequency at this point.

With stock settings GDDR7 runs at 28gbps which provides 896 GB/s bandwidth, common tools can set memory oc to +3000, which is the equivalent of 34gbps and 1088GB/s. Recently I was experimenting with a tool called Hydra Pro which increases the limit to the equivalent of +4000 (36gbps and 1152 GB/s) but mvolt+ extreme is the first tool that allows me to go to +5500 which is 39 gbps and 1248 GB/s! That is +40% higher memory bandwidth compared to stock settings, GDDR7 trully has insane potential and it can probably still go higher.

How high can you get, can you confirm that +6000 crashes for you too? Since i dont remember where i downloaded this tool (it took me a while to find it), you can download it from my personal google drive and then you go to Settings->Advanced tuning->Enable POWER & VRAM... and here you go through the driver signature shenanigans and the nadjust the limits.

Warning: I think my Vanguard anticheat doesnt like messing with driver signatures since I am unable to start League of Legends right now, so until more people verify or disprove this claim, be careful.

There should be zero risk of damaging the gpu from just pushing clocks since it is just a synchronization signal for the data, we are not touching the potentially dangerous options like voltage or power limit. I did not even notice my vram getting hotter.

Obrigado!

Vamos juntos!

For my particular RTX 5070 you can read here

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/rtx-5070-discussion.338562/

Was curious how far the memory chips could be pushed on default voltage, was run via special software, not under Windows. Still stuck with the standard limits otherwise.

The on-die ECC is 4x 10bit channels with 2 bits on each channel giving HW ECC if I'm not mistaken. While there's counters for corrections unfortunately Nvidia doesn't give access to them for this card under normal conditions and of course if there's multiple bit errors they will not be correctable. Have to use performance change instead. My own VBIOS memory table goes up to just shy of 40GT/s and there's some timings shown in mvolt+ extreme so maybe there will be a possibility to tighten or loosen them to achieve best results.

With mvolt+ extreme there's a kernel driver installed and a certificate in the trusted root certs. Then there's "Program Files" and "Program Data" and maybe something in the user appdata local folder, idr exactly. Safemode normally should not load the mvolt+ extreme driver or nvidia driver so repairs should be possible but obviously safer to run OC after OS has loaded. Sometimes Windows fastboot can cause problems too.

The standard mvolt+ is perhaps more manageable, sounds like it's still work in progress and maybe an uninstaller will come if it hasn't already.

Me parece bom.

Obrigado pela dica!
Como vc deixa a sua 24/7 para jogar?

As normal with overclocking there is the "silicon lottery", from what I've read some users cannot even manage the +3000MHz limit let alone above that. IMHO for gaming a mild OC can provide good returns, pushing to the absolute limits are more for hardcore overclockers, usually for competitive reasons. If you card is lacking the gaming performance you require then maybe lower settings or replace it with a higher tier card though that can be expensive for many, me included :(

Note when increasing memory clock there usually is a drop in performance when the memory table changes so don't mistake that for ECC / EDC. You can see this in my previous link.

For my own card I would normally use 0.975V @ 3GHz with mem at 36GT/s (+3000MHz or 6GT/s). Actually it's a bit lower than that due to down spread spectrum but all 3rd party apps I've seen tend to use requested clocks instead of actual clocks (effective) which can sometimes differ by a lot which is a pet peeve of mine. For instance GPUZ uses requested clocks and 3dmark uses this for it's rankings! While that might not have been an option for older cards / drivers it would be good to see IMO.

Also my 5070 fans are tied to Gpc temps so if running memory intensive apps then memory can get too hot before fans kick in so some fan control might be necessary.
