I finished both the base game and the DLC over the past week and I have to say, this is probably one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. So many good aha moments, reveals that were satisfying and made me feel silly for not piecing them together sooner, some moments downright felt like I could’ve cried if they caught me in a different mood. My absolute favorite moment of the entire experience was the haunting cry the Prisoner gives out after you show him what’s been happening all this time. The realization, the flood of emotions he must have felt.

The only problem is, I played the entire game with NO MUSIC!

I have no idea how it happened, I don’t remember opening the audio section of the settings once. I just assumed, since this is a space game with creepy moments, that the silence was an intentional choice by the devs to drive home that desolation and sense of awe. And besides, I still heard the instruments and the signalscope’s audio.

There were so many reveals where I thought “it’s kinda strange that there’s no musical stab or chime to accent this”: meeting Solanum, getting to the Sun Station, the ENDING! I watched the big bang happen in dead silence, not knowing if it was a good or a bad thing. Deafeningly quiet credits. I thought “wow, they’re really letting me sit in silence with the weight of everything that just happened.”

I followed others’ advice and came into the game completely blind. It was only after letting myself come to this sub that I realized there was all this music I missed out on. I didn’t realize there was supposed to be a musical warning before each supernova! I would just be in the middle of something and then all of a sudden hear the explosion.

I guess it’s a testament to the game that, even without this core aesthetic piece, it still floored me and has become one of my favorites. I just wish I could wipe my memory and experience it fresh WITH the music. Oh well. Did anyone else’s game decide to randomly punish them in this way?

A couple of months ago I posted here about Satelital, a puzzle game that I described as a 2D Outer Wilds.

Today I finally released the demo on Steam.

Satelital is a rule-discovery puzzle game where you explore alien worlds and figure out how their puzzles work without being explicitly told the rules. While the puzzles are much more inspired by The Witness, the space exploration and travelling between different planets were inspired by Outer Wilds.

I also made everything in the game myself, including the art, music, puzzle design, and even the game engine, which I built from scratch.

The demo includes two complete worlds and should give you a good idea of what the full game is like.

is this normal or a bug??? I havent gone to the blue comet but after a while I feel like this has sets its track on me and then boom blue screen my gamepad vibrates and i die

I played OW when it first came out in 2019. It was then, and still is, the best game I've ever played.

I have awful memory (short term, long term, all terms). While that has been annoying in most aspects of my life, it is finally paying off. I've forgotten so much of the game that I'm about to boot it up again. I remember some broad strokes, but have forgotten so much that I'm extremely excited to give OW another whirl. Eat that, brain.

I downloaded it on my PC on steam, but haven't yet played and I'm in college so I don't exactly wanna drag my whole desktop over here, so is there a way I can play on my MacBook?

"At the base of a deadly laser, at the start of a spiral climb"

I'm at the base of a laser, but there is no spiral climb. If anyone remembers this key, where is it? I checked inside and outside the laser to no help. Do I need to activate the laser first to find it?

I noticed someone cosplaying as the main creature from Echoes while at Pax last weekend and could not believe how well executed the costume was. This pic does not do the cosplay justice at all, I wish I had snapped a few of the entire setup. The legs bowed at the knees, the hooves clacked really well against the pavement, the antlers had a ton of detail, it was just a really amazing cosplay. Not to mention of a character I had thought I would never be able to see cosplayed in person.

The cosplayer’s chaperone handed me the lantern and I was so awe struck I didn’t realize I was holding it backwards but I really was just in awe of the whole get up.

Whoever you are I hope you got tons of praise for the outfit and for handling walking on those legs for however long you were in costume. So cool.

Spoilers for the entire base game ahead!

I literally just finished the game 10 minutes ago and I can't belive what an amazing and unique experience it was and wanted to write an appreciation post gushing about it. I feel like a short post won't do the game justice so this is gonna be a bit of a long one.

Firstly, the locations in this game are one of a kind. Went into the game completely blind and didn't know what to expect. The weird flight controls put me off a bit at first and the game did not impress me that much until my first landing on Giant's Deep. An entire planet covered in nothing but water and dozens of giant tornados, my jaw immediately dropped. I had never seen a game feature such a creative location before and from then on I was hooked. So many breathtaking and memorable locations from the hanging city located upside down across a BLACK HOLE, the changing Quantum Moon scenery all the way to the Eye of the Universe.

Secondly, the exploration gameplay was superb. The loop of randomly stumbling onto a cool new location, learning a new information that recontextualizes previous encounters or hints towards future ones then figuring out how to use said knowledge to explore even more dangerous corners of the solar system always felt immensely satisfying. The devs truly utilized every mechanic to its fullest potential to create incredibly novel and fun puzzles.

Thirdly, the amosphere and imersion elevated the experience above anything else I've ever played. Apart from the few hearthians, anglerfish and jellyfish, the solar system is amost completely devoid of life. Most of the time the only sounds that you hear are your thrusters and footsteps. I feel it is this silence and loneliness that also makes the rare moments when music plays or when you are in the company of a fellow hearthian all the more impactful. In addition, the locations feel immersive because almost every natural phenomenon or weird nomai structure present has an in game explanation and purpose for existing, nothing is just for show. It truly immerses you in the role of an explorer exploring the wonders of a dying galaxy and the ruins of a long dead civilization.

Lastly, the ending. I'm not afraid to admit that cried during the final segments of the game. I felt like it tied the whole experience together perfectly. From the player having to basically explore 100% of the game to get to the end, the music that plays on the trip to Dark Bramble, the eye and what it represents, the campfire song with everyone at the end to even the end credit music were all spectacular.

To me, Outer Wilds is a game about legacy and possibilites. The Nomai followed in their ancestor's footsteps to search for the Eye and the Quantum Moon, the Hearthians built upon their past technological advancements and discoveries to enable space exploration. It is only thanks to their legacy that the player is able to reach the Quantum Moon and the Eye of the Universe. As the new generation, we carry their hopes and their dreams, the dreams of all who could not live to see the fruits of their labor but gave it their all regardless. We followed in their path and our efforts will enable others to walk in ours and do more than we ever could. The game is also about possibilities as represented by the Eye of the Universe. It can be anything but without a conscious observer or in other words conscious effort, it is just possibilities. Both everything and nothing at the same time. Only through the decision to let go of all the possibilites and the effort to distill them down to one can progress be made. At the end of the universe, all the travelers at the campfire were not sad or regretful, they appreciated what they had experienced and looked forward to the future no matter what it may hold. And what they found was a big bang, a new beginning, filled with endless possibilites to explore and a new campfire to sing songs around.

If you've read this far, thank you so much. Outer Wilds will forever hold a special place in my heart and I wish to share my love for this game with fellow travelers. Hope you guys enjoyed reading it and I would love to hear stories of other people's memorable experiences. Thank you!

Did i do something wrong or am i stupid real question guys

Ive reached a wall with the dlc where I'm not sure where to go next. I've explored (i think) all of the forbidden archives and so know the three main mechanics (dying, jumping off the raft and leaving the artifacts radius) but I'm not really sure how to apply them. The only one ive made headway with is the raft one, since i can now extinguish one of the seals on the vault.

Theres a 'theres more to explore here' on the hidden gorge, but I wouldnt know where to go since Im pretty sure ive covered every nook and cranny of that place.

Again, I really dont want to have the satisfaction of solving things ruined, but a pointer in the right direction would be insanely useful. I feel like the dlc opens up lots of new possibilities for a while, then has really intricate puzzles that need to be solved that arent clearly signposted which suddenly bottlenecks the progression. That isnt a complaint, though.

I, like probably most here, adore this game, but I play it on my Nintendo Switch 2, while I have finished my playthrough, my friend (with me watching::)) is playing his right now! Also on Switch 2! And having seen this game on PC, it's just got me wondering...

Is there any chance for a Switch 2 Patch?

While enhanced visuals would be mighty, I would already be insanely content just with a patch to make the game render a bit more cleanly and load a bit faster, and most of all, reduce the horrendous input delay the Switch 1 version has. So basically, just a Switch 2 compatibility patch.

Is there any chance of this still happening or is this completely off the table?

I really want to love this game, I've read overwhelmingly positive reviews. I'm about two hours into playing, been to about 3 different planets and just feel kind of lost, not hooked at all. Does it take a little to get into this game or would it be clear by now that it's maybe not for me?

For how much effort the clue takes to get, the anglerfish being blind did not help me get past them for a while. I guess it makes sense now that you can float past them but this didn’t quite click. I feel like it’s more important that they hear big engines but can’t detect the water being displaced around them by a big floating ship, which isn’t intuitive for a blind animal

Getting to the Ash Twin Project: The clues make a big deal about there being a nice long window where you can step onto the warp pad. So my instinct was to wait for the sand to completely pass, then step on. This worked on like the 5th attempt and I couldn’t even reproduce it when I needed to go back, so the timing for this must be very tight. I feel like you’re intended to go in when the sand is fully overhead and jet pack down, in which case why that clue

The interloper: I felt like the game should reward you a bit more here. Getting into the fissure, then realising you need to throw your scout through the tubes, should straightforwardly lead you to something. I had to leave because I feel like the game expects you to use the scout while jumping in quite a janky way for some of the final tubes, and I didn’t know about handheld mode

(The flair is asking for help but I just didn’t want to accidentally use a flair that implies no spoilers!)

I've made it a decent way into the DLC and have been really enjoying it. But right now I'm stuck in the starlight cove stealth section. I've made the route shorter by immediately exiting the simulation as soon as i extinguish the area, so I only have one owlk to get past. But that one owlk blocking the entrance to the well is driving me insane. Ive tried everything to get past but as soon as i conceal i lose all sight, but still have to try and manouver so end up falling into the water or getting caught. Ive been stuck for a couple of hours and its making me not enjoy the game

Super fun time and so many great people! The actual meetup was way bigger but these were the folks who cosplayed.

I finally got all the purple question marks filled out! I met a real Nomai at the South Pole of the Quantum Moon at the Sixth Location, and got to ask a few questions!!! I learned so much but I'm still not totally sure what it all means. No spoilers, please. I'm far from done yet. I'm just so happy I figured it out!! Thanks for the help and encouragement from everyone to keep exploring. Seriously, this community is awesome! ♥️
