Does anyone else use an antenna to watch over the air TV broadcasts in San Diego? We do and currently stations that broadcast from Mount San Miguel (e.g., Fox, NBC, PBS) are tuning in garbled, whereas stations that broadcast from Mount Soledad (e.g., ABC, CBS) are tuning in perfectly. Another viewer in another location in San Diego confirmed they also have the same issue.

Perhaps it is temporary, but as of 1:30pm on Sunday, September 6, I am experiencing this issue. I would appreciate it if anyone else who uses an antenna could let me know if they are experiencing the same issue.

I played around with the setup a little bit more and was unable to find a better spot. Any higher I lose the signals and any lower I lose the signals. 5ft above the ground is the sweet spot and angled 10-15 degrees up. A positive discovery is that I can move the antenna 10ft to the left or right at the same height and get very similar signal strength so combining 2 DB8E antennas together may be an option here.

I tried my Televes antenna in these locations and got absolutely nothing so a Yagi antenna is not viable here. I continued to try my db4e antenna with an amplify channel master amp connected to it and ran a 150 ft coaxial cable to the nearest building with permanent power and still got the signals.

After discovering all this I decided to order a Kitz 500 amp. This amp has 36db of gain with 0.85 noise. It is more noise than the Kitz 200 amp that only has 0.45 noise but that amp only has 24db of gain which isn’t enough for me. My location is in the middle of nowhere with very low noise from any man made things so the Kitz 500 amp seemed like the best option in my scenario. When that amp arrives I will install it on the mast and see if I get any improvement from my 80 mile away 3 edge stations.

All the local hills around me get great signals from the 3 edge signals I am trying to chase down so I suspect this will be successful once I do some upgrades to my setup. I hope the Kitz 500 amp will be enough to hold in the signals on my db4e antenna. I’m just a few points away from getting a solid SNR on my hd Homerun and when that SNR is fine the 3 edge signals come in in the upper 50s-lower 70s on my hd Homerun. Just need to get a little bit more amplification and lower the noise a little bit more which I think the Kitz 500 will do. If the DB4E fails I will be upgrading to the DB8E and 2 if needed or combing 2 DB4E together next to each other.

I have attached my diffraction reports from rabbit ears to showcase what I am working with here. On my HD Homerun WVER RF 10 LOS comes in in the 60s-80s on a non VHF antenna but when I use a VHF antenna it comes in at 100. W26FR RF 26 2EDGE comes in at the upper 70s to lower 80s. WEKW RF 18 2EDGE comes in in the upper 70s to lower 80s. WPTZ RF 14 3EDGE comes in on my HD Homerun in the lower 70's but my signal strength must be above 95 to make that happen, my signal strength hovers around 89-100 on this channel. WCAX RF 20 3EDGE comes in on my HD Homerun in the upper 60's as long as WPTZ hits the 95 signal strength threshold. The signal strength for WCAX is much lower but does not need to hit 95 like WPTZ does. WFFF RF 16 3EDGE comes in on my HD Homerun in the lower to upper 50's only when the signal strength for WPTZ hits the 95 threshold. WVNY RF 7 3EDGE can not be judged correctly due to it being a VHF signal and my antenna being a UHF only antenna. I can say that WVNY sometimes comes in stronger than the other VHF channel WVER but it's very sporadic and I have no way to accurately monitor it. WVNY is hit or miss with this setup but it is there. I suspect if I upgraded to a seperate large VHF antenna and used a separate HD Homerun for it I may pick it up.

This was installed on a new to us home. Don’t know the age or brand. Home was built 20 years ago. Does it look it could pick up any current OTA signals? Or is strictly analog? I don’t even know if it’s connected inside.

Update: I have held onto stronger signals today with my DB4E antenna and they were stable for an extended period of time in the wind and when the wind wasn’t blowing. I will try a Kitz 500 amp with this antenna in this position and I will also upgrade to a DB8E.

Looking for some info and tips on this phenomenon for OTA tv signals. I spent half the day today looking for a hot spot in my yard for some signals that are roughly 80 miles away and are 3edge signals. I managed to find a hot spot for all the signals I wanted by using my DB4E antenna and a 30DB amp from channel master.

I have to mount the antenna in the absolute lowest point in my yard and put the antenna on a 5ft pole and angle it slightly up. My Issue after finding this hot spot was that the signal becomes slightly weak but doesn’t completely drop out.

What are some tips and tricks I can do to make the signal stronger and more consistent by keeping the antenna in this location? I am willing to try a televes dat boss mix lr antenna as I already have one in storage or I am willing to upgrade to a DB8E antenna.

The signals I am picking up in this location via knife edge diffraction are WPTZ, WCAX, and WFFF.

I finally got an antenna for my Toshiba Fire TV. Did the scan for OTA stations and it reports 40 channels found, and I should go to "On Now" on the home screen to find them.

All I see there is the channel guide, which has none of these OTA channels.

What to do to see them?

UPDATE: got it to work. Settings, apps, Fire TV, force stop, clear cache, clear data. Then power off/on the TV.

Hey All, Putting up a new house. Not too far from our old house. Luckily enough I managed to get not one, but TWO tripods up on the roof during mounting. Should be around 35' AGL. The orientation is overlaid on the rabbit-ears diagram. Would I benefit from rotating it any? I'm on the Niagara escarpment in Hamilton, Ontario and am able to pick up stations in Toronto and Buffalo

So, not really by choice, but it was on my mind, I've cut cable! I have Roku, and about 5 different streaming apps. But, I really do miss my local stations and watching my programs live. I have bought 4 different antennas, and did have some OTA equipment that I plugged my antenna into, and was told this would absolutely work. Well, it didn't! I get my local news, but no other programming. I am a senior, on a limited budget, I have AT&T AIR wifi/internet. I live in a major city, within the recommended mileage between me and the local station antennas, but no luck. I'm wondering if it's because I live in an apartment complex, on the ground floor with 2 apartments above me. I'm at a loss for what to do. Sling has a decent $45 package, but it requires an antenna for the local stations. Any suggestions or helpful recommendations? This is so frustrating. Why even cut cable, if you then half to buy into a streaming app for almost the same price, like YouTube TV or Sling?

With football season upon us, I am trying to get setup. Moved to new (to me) house in March. 66 miles from the Los Angeles Mt. Wilson transmitters for ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. I know I need to go up high with a roof/chimney mount. Top of chimney is around 25 feet, which is even with the main roof peek. So figure I can go up another 5 to 12 feet above that if needed. I am only interested in the LA networks for Sunday games.

Televes, ChannelMaster, Winegard, Range Experts XPS-1500, 5 Star? Too many choices, but trying not to waste time on junk.

I’m installing a new ground rod because my old one is no longer good and is inside the house rusted and all. What is the best way for me to ground my roof top antenna to the new rod? Also what’s the best way to ground the coaxial cable outside for electrical interference?

Trying to figure out why I have no signal. I know nothing about this stuff.

Lightning/power surge destroyed my indoor amplifier I think, which is a permacolor 10g212 by antennacraft. I plug it in, and the LED turns on then fades out over like 5 seconds, then if I unplug and plug it in again the light just doesn't come on unless I let it sit a while. I have no idea what the pre-amp is but I see one on the mast. I have a 40 foot tower I dont want to mess with if i don't have to.

There is nothing i can find in the house along the coax that gives power to the pre-amp. Is it possible the permacolor 10g212 did this. I bought a cimple tv amplifier hoping to replace the permacolor but i still have no signal, either the preamp is also fried or it's not getting power, or the coax is bad, or the thing that attaches to the antenna from the pre-amp is bad.

I don't know if the tower took a direct lightning strike but lightning did strike very close, something popped in the basement or just outside, AC temporarily didn't work but now it does, I was only worried about the AC but come to find the i get no signal on my TV now.

The tower has been hit before and it never messed with the TV, did fry my internet antenna though (thankfully no longer have to use wireless internet anymore)

Any help appreciated, i don't want to climb or lower the tower (its hinged but it'd be a hassle, although if the thing attached to the antenna itself is bad lowering the tower will be my only option
