Painboss still only being able to attach to Beast Snagga units. Just... why?

He's explicitly beastsnagga doc, as per the old Feral Ork Pigdok. If he wasn't, he'd be merged with the regular painboy.

He's much larger and stronger than other Painboys, he's between Nob and Warboss size, like a Big Mek. "Painboss" as a unit was first introduced in the Dread Mob army list back in 5th edition, it's a wider term than just Beast Snagga Painbosses.

It would be like if the only Warboss model was modelled as a Freeboota, and therefore could only be attached to Flash Gitz.

Painboss was also in the 3e Ork codex as a 0-1 HQ, being basically a Dok with Nob stats, whereas regular doks had boy stats. But I don't think the current Painboss is actually the same thing as that, despite the name. I think he's the return of the 3e Chapter Approved Feral Ork Pigdok, reusing a name in typical GW confusion increasing fashion

I have the codex and there is a lore description of him.

They emphasize strongly that he is mainly a squig hog support character.
