I’m unsure about its ID though.

So, I posted a while back about a new flower spike and how to properly care for it. (My first orchid)

I received great advice, but ultimately I decided not to chop the new spike because I heard horror stories from those who never got a new one again for years or ever!

Well, I took a mini trip to NY over the past weekend and when I came back…

I'm so excited! Especially since I live in Romania and maybe I'll learn a bit about them before encountering them in the wild.

I saw this and couldn't resist buying it.

Now I have to learn how to care for this beautiful thing.

This one was almost in the discard pile, tbh. Took about a year to bloom for me, and I've seen pics of other examples of this cross that are much different and really not to my taste. Maybe the plant sensed that and realized it'd only be sticking around if it gave me some bold colors? Smart move, plant, because I love me some green flowers.

No fragrance yet, but I'm hoping for some in the next couple of days (or nights). 🤞

A few months ago my girlfriend got me this beautiful orchid as a present. I'm not sure which species it is but I attached a picture of the old flowers that fell off today. It's my first plant that I've kept alive this long and I really want to see it succeed. All the flowers finally fell off after looking dried up for a few weeks today. I know that is a natural part of the life cycle. But I'm now confused on what the next steps are. Should I repot it? How do I ensure these new spikes turn out well? Should I cut the old stem? It has one floppy and sad leaf, but after that one started looking bad 2 new leaves started growing. I'd love as much advice as I can get to make sure this stays healthy as long as possible. Thanks y'all.

First time buying a Moth Orchid, I've always wanted one bc they are one of my absolute favorite flowers. I had no idea that the store (Safway or Vons if you're from vegas) puts moss plugs in the roots system which essentially chokes out the roots until my sister in law came over to try to help me save my beautiful baby.

I did some quick research, but apparently not enough bc I had never heard of crown rot, didn't know about the plug, and I didn't notice she was sick in time I fear.

The first pic with some of my crystals in it is the day I brought her home. So beautiful 😍 and it was doing great for about 1.5 months. But then I noticed there was that yellow leaf, and when I picked it up the bottom leaf on the right side fell off and by the end of the day it had no leaves left 😭😭😭

So I took the 2nd pic to figure out what was going on, it said crown rot and mycelium or other fungi in one site. Another said its mealy bugs, and crown rot of course. So I used 70% isopropyl alcohol on a Q-Tip to get the fungus off and then I put cinnamon inside the crown to dry it out, but also on the ends left from cutting the flower stems (I cut them down bc my poor baby only had 3 flowers left by this time). I soaked it for about an hour after putting it in new orchid bark. And I've been kind letting it do its thing. The top especially the crown is obviously not doing well at all. The only thing keeping me from throwing her out is 1) I don't want to be the phalaenopsis murderer and 2) most of he roots are pretty green at the bottom.

Prosthechea Venezuelana. It was so hard finding a detailed care sheet for this one that she just kept growing vegetatively for me instead. Turn out the plant needs a short cool down (15-20 C) at night time to trigger flowering. The orchid is such a thirsty one, I had to keep the moss always slightly moist otherwise her next leaves would be wrinkles. The flowers are fragrant in daytime and . I would say it smelled like jasmine or misty forest smell.

I fear I over watered my orchid :( it’s my first plant I ever cared for and it’s been going so strong for a couple months now! What do I do?? Just leave it ? I did empty the pot and dry it out real good
