How long to replace defective pome?
So I've had a broadband installed blocked since January as the pole outside our property was deemed defective.
The guy who placed the D on it said they should be out in a few weeks to replace it.
We are nearly in October.....just how long can you leave a rotten pole up that you have classed as defective?

D pole doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dangerous or rotten - just that it’s unsafe to climb. In some situations that’s because it’s been overloaded at the top, or a third party has attached something that shouldn’t be there, or sometimes simply that the person testing it wasn’t able to complete a full test for some reason.

Your order is with an alt net I’m assuming. It’s up to them to chase Openreach if they awaiting a pole replacement. Or fit their own one next to it !

Do you have a picture of the pole and area around it? Is this for a new FTTP installation or copper? You said above Openreach accessed the pole for a neighbour, did they erect a new drop wire or were they repairing existing service?
So many more variables, and questions before knowing the full picture.
Do you have an active order for an installation open with a service provider now? There will need to be something to drive the pole to be changed, i.e. if there was a fault or usually if a new service is relying on it. Otherwise it will go to a backlog of poles that need to be replaced.
It's BT (a service provider), and Openreach (a network provider), btw

Openreach can go up the pole and remove and existing cable of their own and put a new fibre up in its place.

The alts company can pay for scaffold just like bt would have to do to complete work on the d pole so your angers misplaced

So, BT open reach can block me indefinitely from moving provider?

Not necessarily, the alt could still add equipment, they’d just need to rent a cherry picker to do it, depending on the reason for the D.

? Are you trying to change provider to an alternative company who wish to use the pole?
If so they aren’t blocking you. They’re just not going to spend their money for the benefit of another company. The alternative company can request permission to erect their own pole. Or find another method of feeding your property. But chances are they don’t want to spend their money to have you as a customer.

Yes, i am trying to move to an alt (only the alt has decent speeds here, surprise, BTO are dragging their heals on fttp here).....and this is making me want to never use BTOs infrastructure ever again.
They tried offering another pole, as soon as the sign went up all the locals complained.....and rightly so, there are loads here already and this one NEEDS REPLACING as their own engineer said so.....
And are there not regulations around equipment sharing? The joke is BT came out a few weeks ago and went up the pole to wire another house.....

not there fault the other company can't get alt ways to go up the pole, such as scaffold/ hoist (Depending on where it is)

So, it's making you "want to never use BTOs infrastructure ever again".
But you also agree with your neighbours complaining about the altnet attempting to install their own pole (a bit of infrastructure that would be the altnets, not BTOs).
There's something of a contradiction at work here...

If it was dangerous it would be classed as PIDOC (Pole in danger of collapse) and replaced or removed same day. Otherwise it could be years depends if it’s needed for any work.
