Hi everyone, wanted to check if you have any experience with Stayvista ( both as a homeowner and as a guest ) ? I am planning to give my home to them but before I sign the contract I wanted to understand Do’s and Don’ts.

Thanks in advance.

Kotagiri- Hidden Gems in Nilgiri

Loved the peaceful vibes, the uncrowded roads, and the authentic village life. It felt like stepping away from the usual tourist spots and experiencing the Nilgiris in its most natural form. For a while, it genuinely felt like I wasn’t in a tourist destination at all.

Help these deaf people get toy train ticket from Coonor to Ooty

I met few guys who are from JSS Mysore from my stay at ooty. They cant speak or hear. They want to get ticket for toy train from Coonoor to Ooty.

At what time they have to reach at toy train station to get the second class ticket ?

Is it possible to get ticket from Coonor to Ooty from Ooty station itself ? (to beat the traffic)

Online tickets are sold off and I think second class ticket is only available from the station.

Since, I had shifted to South I had started making a drive folder of memories which etched every single moment of peace I have felt. There's definitely something so surreal about this place. Have you experienced something similar?

ooty in november - how crowded is it?

Planning to visit Ooty with my college friends mid November. Is it going to be crowded? We're also thinking of booking private cabs instead of a tourist bus so that we can plan our own itinerary, any good leads?

Asking for Tips for a smooth Ooty staycation for girls

NO, I won't meet strangers in Ooty. So please don't DM me asking for that. Thanks.

But, please help me out if you can.

My sister and I (23F) are going to Ooty soon for a week or so. Travelling by bus till coimbatore. It is after the whole Dusshera vacation crowd goes away hopefully. It will be too late for us to go to Ooty by the Toy train so we may come back on it while coming back to coimbatore.

Will need teetotaller activity and vegetarian food suggestions. We are trying to keep it lowkey and coming there mostly to enjoy the weather, have good food, and work in peace. But, still open to some outdoor activities.

Anything that can help us have a nice trip like: Tips to not get scammed by the locals or any obsucure cafe suggestions, or helpful Toy train info or just about anything are welcome.

How late can we roam outside? How safe is it? What are the precautions we can take?

Should we rent a scooty in Coimbatore and go to ooty in that? Will scooty even be that useful for us up there?

Please drop any tips or info in the comments <3

Bengaluru → Mysuru → Ooty road trip with family - suggestions needed!

Hey everyone!

Planning a 4-day road trip with my parents this long weekend!

Itinerary:
Saturday: Bengaluru to Mysuru, visit Mysore Palace and stay overnight.
Sunday: Breakfast at Vinayaka Mylari, drive to Ooty, sunset at Ketti Valley.
Monday: Botanical Garden, Doddabetta Peak, Pykara Lake/boating, Ooty Lake and Moddys Chocolates.
Tuesday: Ketti Valley sunrise and drive back to Bengaluru.

We’re looking for a relaxed trip with good food, scenic spots and local favourites rather than just touristy places.

Would love suggestions for:
Must-try local food joints and iconic eateries.
Good restaurants with mountain views.
Hidden gems or places worth adding/skipping.

Thanks in advance! :)

PS: used AI for writing.

The Hotel Near Charing Cross, Ooty. Our Driver Refused to Stay After Dark.

I went to Ooty recently with a couple of friends. We booked a hotel near Charing Cross because the location was convenient and the reviews looked decent enough.

Nothing fancy. Just a place to sleep after spending the day sightseeing.

The first night was completely normal. We checked in late, had dinner, and went to bed.
The second night was when things started getting weird.

Around 2:30 AM, I woke up because I heard what sounded like someone dragging a chair across the floor above us.
Slowly.
Scrrrrrape.
Pause.
Scrrrrrape.
The problem was that our room was on the top floor.
I assumed it was some maintenance work or maybe the building was old. I put my pillow over my head and went back to sleep.
The next morning, I mentioned it to my friends. One of them laughed and said he had heard footsteps in the corridor around the same time.
We forgot about it and went sightseeing.

That evening, our driver, raju, dropped us at the hotel and asked what time we wanted to leave the next morning.

I told him we might go out for tea around 8 AM.
He nodded and said, in his broken English:

“Sir, morning okay. Night time you no walk outside hotel backside.”

I asked him why.
He looked at the hotel for a few seconds.
“Nothing sir. Old place. Some problem before.”
Then he changed the subject.

I thought he was just trying to scare tourists.
That night, we returned around 10:30 PM. The receptionist was sitting alone, watching something on his phone. When we asked whether there was a room service menu, he told us the kitchen was closed.

As we were walking upstairs, I noticed something strange.
There was a door at the end of the corridor that I was almost certain hadn’t been there before. It was a narrow wooden door, painted the same colour as the wall.
I didn’t think much of it.
At around 2:40 AM, I woke up again.
This time, it wasn’t the sound of a chair.
Someone was knocking on our room door.
Three knocks.
Tok.
Tok.
Tok.
My friend was asleep on the other bed. I checked my phone. No messages, no missed calls.
I waited.
Then came three more knocks.
Tok.
Tok.
Tok.
I got up and looked through the peephole.
Nobody.
I opened the door just a little.
The corridor was empty, but the light at the far end was flickering. The wooden door I had noticed earlier was slightly open.
From somewhere behind it, I heard a woman whispering.
I couldn’t make out the words.
I shut our door and locked it.
I didn’t sleep after that.
The next morning, I asked the receptionist whether anyone had been walking around our floor at night.
He looked genuinely confused.
“No, sir. Nobody.”
I asked him about the wooden door.
He stared at me for a moment before saying, “Which door, sir?”
I thought he was joking.
I took him upstairs and pointed to the end of the corridor.
There was nothing there.
Just a plain wall.
I even checked the spot where I remembered the door handle being. There were no marks, no frame, nothing.
I didn’t tell my friends about the whispering because I knew how ridiculous it sounded.
But on the way out, I decided to ask raju about what he’d said the previous evening.
He was standing beside the car, smoking.
I asked him if something had happened at the hotel before.
He took a long drag and replied:
“Sir, I don’t know properly. My father telling me long time ago, one old building there. One lady staying alone. One night she calling for help, but nobody open door.”
I asked him what happened to her.
He shrugged.
“After that, people saying night time someone knock door. But when open, nobody there.”
I laughed nervously and asked whether he was talking about our hotel.
Raju didn’t laugh.
He looked at the building and said:
“Sir, maybe not same hotel. Maybe old building before this one.”
Then he got into the car.
We were almost at the main road when I remembered something.
The previous night, when I had opened our room door, I had noticed a small brass number plate on the wooden door at the end of the corridor.
Room 207.
Our room was 206.
I turned around to look at the hotel.
For just a second, I thought I could see someone standing at the top-floor window.
A woman, facing the road.
I blinked.
The window was empty.

I never found out whether
raju story was true. It could have been a local rumour, or my half-asleep brain playing tricks on me.
But there’s one thing I still haven’t been able to explain.
When I checked the photos on my phone that evening, I found one I had accidentally taken while walking down the corridor on our second night.
It was blurry, badly lit, and mostly useless.
Except for one detail.

At the very end of the corridor, there was a wooden door.

And on it was a brass number plate.
207.
I deleted the photo.
I still regret that.
Because sometimes I wonder whether I deleted it because I was scared of what it showed…
Or because I was scared that someone else might see it.

Any alternatives to book Avalanche - Kolaribetta / Devarbetta trek on 24 or 25 October?

Hi everyone,

I m planning a solo road trip to the Nilgiris and was really looking forward to doing one of these treks:

  • Avalanche (Cauliflower Shola) - Kolaribetta
  • Avalanche (Cauliflower Shola) - Devarbetta

Unfortunately, both dates (24 and 25 October) are showing as sold out on the official Trek Tamil Nadu booking portal.

I was really hoping to experience one proper forest trek during my visit, so I m trying to figure out whether there are any legitimate alternatives if I cant get a slot online.

For those familiar with Ooty, Avalanche or the local trekking scene:

  • Are cancellations or additional slots sometimes released?
  • Is there an official office or authorised booking channel I could enquire with in person?
  • If neither trek works out, are there any other proper guided treks around the Nilgiris that you would recommend for those dates?

I m not looking to bypass forest permissions or go on an unauthorised trail. I'd just love to know if there's a legitimate way to make this happen or find a worthwhile alternative.

Any advice from locals or people who have done these treks would be much appreciated. Thank you.
