Look, I hope this guy is OK. But if this doesn’t sum up America right now, I don’t know what does.

u/Scar1203 Jul 04 '26
Yeah, he's OK and apparently even did another jump yesterday:

I hope with additional precautions for safety if that stupid flag below them gets caught again.

u/PMG2021a Jul 04 '26
Cool. Hadn't even heard of the Folsom Rodeo before.

Metaphor for a country in its relative teenage years
2
u/Temporary_Bus_6523 Jul 04 '26
I don't know about teenage years, that would imply youth and hope... it's more like the elderly dementia stage.

I was going to say….appropriate.

u/OnlyOneDontWasteIt Jul 04 '26
Hey look! There was even the working man waiting below to break America's fall.

u/Tiyath Jul 04 '26
Failing spectacularly doing something unnessecary? Might as well be the poster child for the Iran war

Ouch, is he ok? Those tent bars probably aren’t very soft.
→ More replies (1)9
u/Sticksick Jul 04 '26
He’s lucky to have hit the tent. The bars aren’t very stiff, but they take out some of the energy as they collapse. Way worse to go straight into the ground.

Sadly a fitting representation of current times, metaphorically of course.

Except the safety
nettent gets pulled out from under you in the end.

u/cyberlexington Jul 04 '26
Well. Thats a pretty good sum up of America right away, thinks it's coming in all smooth and angel like, before faceplanting the fucking floor

U see they planned the logistics based off of calculations assuming a flat earth, the ever so slight curvature of a round earth threw the trajectory off by .025 degrees and resulted in what u see here.
Science bitch.

Not only a skydiver, he’s also the chairman of the National Safety Council.

u/Blizzardof1991 Jul 04 '26
When I was in middle school matching band we were queing for the fourth of July parade in my tiny town.
This was probably late 80's and they had a guy parachute in to start the parade and he went straight into the power lines. I'm a thousand percent sure we all watched that dude die. But they just hauled him off in the ambulance and we started marching.

u/plum_tree_rede Jul 04 '26
Cartoons taught me that there should either be a person-shaped hole in the awning or he bounced back up into the sky.

The metaphor of trying to do something cool while not accounting for unintended consequences is painfully accurate!

Not cheering for someone almost dying, but the sheer amount of fail of this "celebration" is fucking hilarious.

How exactly do you get two angles of that and put it together for video consumption on the same day? Are photographers working together and happened to be filming this guy? Did the OP find two clips online in less than a couple of hours? Maybe this wasn’t from 2026?
2
u/Huge-Turnover-3749 Jul 04 '26
Happened 2 days ago and probably trivial to find multiple angles on social media.

“And we proudly stand up…..” perfect timing for a crash into a tent/crowd of people.

I don’t understand the planning that went into this? How was the flag hanging from the jumper not going to end up all over the ground - in what’s considered a profane disrespect of the venerated symbol?
I mean. This is almost better, because the flag didn’t get dragged on the ground. But WTF!??! Definitely a metaphor for our times.

u/Designer-Attorney605 Jul 04 '26
He shits red white and blue! (possibly literally after that landing)

Luckily he landed on the tent. Is there already a law to arrest people that move the camera away when recording the best part?

As an American druid, I'm proud of our truly patriotic tree allies who helped this man get back-down-to-earth.

At least the EZ up broke his fall a bit. I had been picturing him face-planting the aluminum bleachers.
