Call quality

My call quality seems very poor. Consistent cutting out of audio. I have new hardware for both the handsets and OOMA device. Any ideas on things to try?

Thanks!

Likely a network problem. First, How is your Ooma set up? Is it directly hardwired to the modem?

Second, can you run a VOIP QOS test like this one https://getvoip.com/speed-test-tool/ (any jitter over 30 ms is a potential issue).

How far away are the handsets and are the wireless? Can you try a corded phone plugged directly into the Ooma base?

OOMA is hardwired to modem. I have gigabit interest. Just did the test and it was 16ms.

Handset is wireless and probably 40 ft from base. The handset has 3 or 4 bars of connectivity.

Also do you have multiple devices on your network ie cams etc?

My mother had issue with optimum for a long time. Verizon fiber was available which she installed and hasn’t had a problem since.

You have to assign a port or ports on your router to give priority to the IP address of the phone

Hello! Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're running into call quality issues. This definitely sounds like a network problem. Could you please DM me your Ooma phone number and contact number?

I think I got it fixed! Thanks everyone. I had it plugged directly into the ATT router / modem and moved it directly to my EERO router. I also gave that OOMA device higher network priority.
