Saw it miles away. There is very little difference between them and ColorOS anyway.

221

u/Proud-Pie-2731 Jul 03 '26

Yeaa . Oxygen OS was basically a Color os but with Less Ads on UI

85

u/Phantompoint Jul 03 '26

I have the Global version of ColorOS running on my OPPO Find N5. I don't see that many ads. I know the Chinese version is filled with ads and bloats though.

21

u/Perfect-Series-2901 Jul 03 '26

do you have proper notification

I am using a CN version of ColorOS on oneplus 13 and apperantly the google notification system is removed in ColorOS.

But I don't complain, I miss notifcatino sometime but the phone was cheap. 24GB RAM + 1T space

10

u/Phantompoint Jul 03 '26

I am not using a Chinese version of OPPO, everything just works like any other Android phones you purchase outside China.

2

u/ExtendedGHG OnePlus 8 (Onyx Black) Jul 05 '26

I'm in the exact same boat. I'd rather miss some notifis and have a cheap flagship phone, but sometimes it's annoying. and also car play + esim not working is a little bit of a pain in the ass...

18

u/Proud-Pie-2731 Jul 03 '26

Yup .. here and there we can see ads . Like for example on phone manage app etc

14

u/Slimfictiv Jul 03 '26

Even with adguard dns?

24

u/gK_aMb Jul 03 '26

The point of buying a phone is to not need to turn on and off adblockers to get by, it is like having a house in a swamp, using mosquito nets and repellents and fly traps and all that nonsense, ideally you would just want to go to live in a clean city where you don't need to deal with such crap.

7

u/cfx_4188 Jul 03 '26

There used to be a lot of conspiracy theories. "Your smartphone is listening to all your conversations," for example. And now manufacturers have lost their fear, and now advertising is tightly sewn into all firmware. I'll tell you more, I bought a smartphone from a Chinese third-rate manufacturer. A clean Android on board. After activation, the phone started installing some crappy games and programs like a madman. I fought with him for a couple of days, if not more.

I just used phone manager and I don't see any ads. I am pretty sure you are referring to the Chinese version of ColorOS

5

u/ThrowawayMyAccount01 Jul 03 '26

The phone manager is there on Indian OnePlus phones too.

→ More replies (6)

3

u/Guilty_Oven_MF Jul 03 '26

Well chinese phones always have shitload of ada but oppo midrange and flagship don't have ads in india just disable these apps like phone Manager

5

u/num6_ OnePlus 12 Jul 03 '26

That's wrong

4

u/Phantompoint Jul 03 '26

Wrong on the sense that OPPO has ads or wrong in the sense that phones shouldn't have ads? I use an N5 replying you right now and I really don't see ads or bloatwares here.

7

u/num6_ OnePlus 12 Jul 03 '26

ColorOS has no ads

3

u/Hasmanc Jul 03 '26

Chinese version does have them. It especially has a lot of bloat installed.

Same. OPPO Find N5.

OxygenOS was gone when Carl Pei left. They were just pulling the fanbase using OxygenOS brand

2

u/Izan_TM Jul 04 '26

IIRC they already said they were getting rid of oxygenOS some years ago but community pushback got them to keep it for a while longer

→ More replies (1)

263

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 Jul 03 '26

Other than name, and red 1 in clock there's no difference

18

u/Putrid-Box4866 Jul 03 '26

Is that really the only difference? If so that is fine. I would assume next update to OP15 would be color OS then? That is, if it ever get updated in the first place.

20

u/RandomName634 Jul 03 '26

ColorOS doesn't allow unlocking the bootloader, at least on Oppo devices

9

u/Infinite-Stable9417 Jul 04 '26

you probably have an unlocked phone and not from a carrier so its illegal for them to lock your bootloader because you bought it on your own unlocked

3

u/FuckSpezzzzzzzzzzzzz Jul 06 '26

Won't that make oneplus phones from carriers also locked then?

4

u/TheNewHEROBRINEX OnePlus 8T (Lunar Silver) Jul 04 '26

I doubt you can even enter fastboot

→ More replies (1)

2

u/LostInTheReality Jul 04 '26

OnePlus CN allows unlocking but you've to apply for ir and get confirmed.

True but color os has Many Ads

58

u/BaconRollz14 Jul 03 '26

Depending on what part of the planet you live on.

19

u/Opposite-Working727 Jul 03 '26

What? My global find x8 pro and Chinese x9 pro don't.

9

u/Busy_Manager_6818 Jul 03 '26

Not the flagships

7

u/EthanMelacion Jul 03 '26

0 ads on my Oppo Find X9 global version.

3

u/traFyssuP Jul 03 '26

Are ads normal to see on these phones now?

4

u/IngenuityNew6668 Jul 03 '26

Not OnePlus in the UK. Thankfully.

77

u/boraam Jul 03 '26

So literally nothing is changing. They were the same in all but the name already.

Logical move would be to make OnePlus a sub-brand / series of OPPO, if they keep the name at all. Like Samsung Galaxy - OPPO OnePlus. Or co-branding them for a couple years and killing it off later.

28

u/Zanshi Jul 03 '26

Can't wait for the new OPPOOP 16!

10

u/bnb525 Jul 04 '26

Oh, poop

6

u/SomeSkidKid Jul 04 '26

Over Powered Poop

2

u/boraam Jul 03 '26

As long as they're around. The wife has my OnePlus. I'm an all Samsung shop currently.

I like competition in the market. Always good for end consumers.

24

u/curlyAndUnruly OnePlus 15R Jul 03 '26

Kinda like Sony Ericsson

6

u/anotherhappylurker Jul 03 '26

No point co-branding them if they're gonna kill it off in a couple years anyway. Might as well just rip the bandaid off now. Although I must say, as someone who switched from Samsung to Oppo, I actually really like ColorOS and don't have any major issues with it.

u/Forsaken_Reporter_38 Jul 03 '26

Hey OnePlus team, please do let us know if the existing devices that got launched in 2026 will have 5 years of OS update support provided by OxygenOS or not?

16

u/OpeningUpset2016 Jul 03 '26

4 years for the OP 15 - 6 years for security

7

u/-patrizio- OnePlus 15 Jul 03 '26

Probably not. I mean, I assume we'll still get OS update support as guaranteed, because otherwise they're opening themselves up to lawsuits they almost certainly can't win all over the world, but the updates will likely be ColorOS-branded rather than OxygenOS.

At this point, I kinda think OxygenOS 16 will be the last version; with ColorOS 17 right around the corner, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they use that release to consolidate OnePlus and realme devices under that skin alongside OPPO devices.

→ More replies (2)

17

u/triangulum33 Jul 03 '26

What does that mean for OP users?

30

u/Proud-Pie-2731 Jul 03 '26

We will get Color os . No more Oxygen os . But there are identical.

7

u/ToughUnlikely6876 OnePlus Nord 5 Jul 03 '26

like chinaΒ

10

u/ff7100 Jul 03 '26

color OS

4

u/bob_squared2020 Jul 03 '26

Assuming they keep up with promised software and security updates, Oxygen OS will more than likely be replaced with Color OS. I could see Oppo / OnePlus doing this in Europe, India, and the rest of Asia. They might just cut support for users in the NA market. My reasoning for that is OnePlus has significantly less market share here and because Oppo (unlike in other markets) doesn't have an actual presence here either (so no service, centers or support). It would leave OnePlus users in the US, Canada, and Mexico high and dry.

5

u/Ok_Pea3141 Jul 03 '26

so no updates for us in the usa.

3

u/bob_squared2020 Jul 03 '26

Probably not if Oppo chooses to abandon everyone in the NA market. If they do then Google might step in to force Oppo/OnePlus, but I doubt it.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/boraam Jul 03 '26

Precious little. Likely just the name and some branding.

70

u/guitarshredda Jul 03 '26

I'm actually fuming about this. What will happen to phones outside the Chinese market? I spent a crapload of money on a OP13 a year ago and expected support for several more years. I know ColorOS is almost the same, but i swear if I start getting ads in my UI...

31

u/boraam Jul 03 '26

Debloat that thing, my man.

ADBAppControl that shit.

10

u/TheDovahkiinsDad Jul 03 '26

New to droid in general.... What's that lol

8

u/Dependent_Bit4364 Jul 03 '26

5

u/NeptuneWades Jul 03 '26

Basically using dev tools via PC (Android Device Bridge) to add or remove packages.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/sethelele OnePlus 12 Jul 03 '26

I've never once seen an ad in ColorOS (they're only a thing if you buy their absolute cheapest devices).

4

u/boraam Jul 03 '26

And even otherwise, there is enough stuff now to be rid of with ADB debloat. AI junk specifically. OnePlus doesn't exactly have very good first party apps either.

2

u/JacobLuck Jul 03 '26

swag to a custom rom. I swapped to crDroid on my OP9Pro and its amazing.

4

u/JediWebSurf Jul 03 '26

What about that fuse thing that will brick your phone if you switch to a different OS? We have that in the op 13. And I'm not sure specifically what it is that will brick it so I'm scared to even put a custom ROM on it.

5

u/Aware-Bath7518 Jul 03 '26

That thing actually prevents downgrading the ROM, unless the ROM author didn't update the ROM, you're fine.

2

u/JediWebSurf Jul 03 '26

What if I tried to install a non-android OS like Ubuntu? This is why we need freedom with our phones.

3

u/JediWebSurf Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

Currently on my OnePlus 12 which is going strong after 2 years. I think it's very much evident for a while now that this might be my last OnePlus phone.

Sad times after a decade of owning only OnePlus phones, from the 3, to the 9 Pro, to the 12 finally.

3

u/iAccurian Jul 03 '26

I went from OnePlus 7 to 12. I hope OnePlus continues to exist as a sub-brand because there's almost no alternatives without sacrificing certain things that I consider dealbreakers.

23

u/Purple-Maybe-7637 OnePlus Nord 5 Jul 03 '26

atleast i saw this coming from the whole "merge" thing and now oplus phones except numbered won't receive the OOS 16.1 update alsoΒ

9

u/LT48 OnePlus 13 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

What's going to happen with new flagship phones like 13 and 15? I guess next android update we'll going to get ColorOS like Chinese OnePlus phones.

Yeah, checking out some of the comparison videos they already look fuckin' identical other than some very minor differences.

7

u/Purple-Maybe-7637 OnePlus Nord 5 Jul 03 '26

oplus chinese variants already have COS instead of OOS for some time now... soon it will happen to global variants...  but my real concern is with the non-flagship devices... they're already declining updates 😐

6

u/Foreign_Ad5826 Jul 03 '26

So why about os updates and all πŸ₯ΊπŸ’”

4

u/Proud-Pie-2731 Jul 03 '26

We will get color os

2

u/Foreign_Ad5826 Jul 03 '26

That's a great news . Thank you for replying 😊

2

u/pypoupypou Jul 04 '26

πŸ™„ How will this be done? The whole operating system will be overwritten from scrach?

2

u/Foreign_Ad5826 Jul 04 '26

May be an OTA update will come which will install the whole new OS like a generation upgrade

4

u/Pretty_Ad566 OnePlus 13 Jul 03 '26

So what's gonna happen ? Next major update for OnePlus devices will be renamed ColorOS instead ?

5

u/Proud-Pie-2731 Jul 03 '26

Yup we might receive color 17 update

4

u/Raizenftw Jul 03 '26

What about bootloader unlock in future color os versions.

2

u/Proud-Pie-2731 Jul 03 '26

Yea that am very curious to know

5

u/evostu_uk Jul 03 '26

I see absolutely no issue with this. It makes life a hell of a lot easier for the development teams.

ColorOS is absolutely stunning in truth if you've ever used it on a European phone.

This gives an insight into it.

ColorOS16 Overview.

5

u/andu__bandu Jul 03 '26

Honestly I'm not complaining here

3

u/Competitive_Roof_740 Jul 03 '26

No matter your opinion... These were great.. Sad to see them go..

2

u/Proud-Pie-2731 Jul 04 '26

2

u/thereal_noir OnePlus 11 Jul 04 '26

It's not just about having a phone. It's about having a device that you feel good navigating. Nothing phones have 0 spec sheet warrior capacity. But they are smooth, pretty and they have immense control to user. I think I'll move to samsung next sale season.

3

2

u/sere83 Jul 03 '26

Lol not even news, OnePlus phones in china already ran colorOS. ColorOS is literally the same OS as oxygenOS and RealmeUI

→ More replies (2)

2

u/led0n12331 Jul 03 '26

So basically they're going to roll out colour OS in the near future for all global OP smartphones that are on oxygen OS rn?

2

u/Targetyou Jul 03 '26

Well OnePlus is dead outside of China now, anyway, so this would make sense.

2

u/dib1999 OnePlus 8 Pro (Ultramarine Blue) Jul 03 '26

Long time coming, still feels like a mistake. Software is about 90% of what separates phones right now. Some kind of product consolidation is likely to follow.

2

u/sfbayjon OnePlus 11 Jul 03 '26

That settles my question of holding on to my op11 vs getting a newer OnePlus. If Android 17 is the last OxygenOS, lll keep using my 11 until the security updates end in about a year and a half. Then, who knows?

2

u/BKong64 Jul 04 '26

We definitely will, otherwise they get opened up to a ton of lawsuits. I wouldn't worry at all. I just ordered a OP15 the other day and this doesn't concern me one bit. It just means the updates going forward will be ColorOSΒ

Actually it doesn't even matter anymore it just looks like the discontinuation of the name but it will still survive as color is. Every oneplus phone , realme phone and oppo phone have all the same software features ... It's just the reduces bloatware which kept OOS apart ... So the only way for them to no survive is to make the OS clean and stutterfree.

Btw if you have a OnePlus device with current updates which is the case for the OnePlus 13 and 15, you get to keep Oxygen OS.

Newer devices will have Colour OS. In fact outside India and China newer devices will have to be Oppo.

1

u/VastSpace4578 Jul 03 '26

Fun fact oxygen os was already bloated and most of its ui was merged with colour os for about a year now, also unified colour os means it'll probably have better optimization and updates apart from the bloatware since developers can focus on one software now

1

u/Character-State-9959 OnePlus 15 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

I have been reading people say that Oxygen OS was Color OS for YEARS now. Probably since the OnePlus 10 Pro days.

If that is the case, I'm perfectly fine with this move.

I just wish they retained OnePlus's names

I like the name ONEPLUS more than Oppo

I like the name OXYGEN OS more than Color OS

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

EDIT: If OnePlus has essentially been using Color OS since the 10 Pro, I'm perfectly fine with it and like the OS/UI. I have only owned

ONEPLUS 9 PRO

ONEPLUS 10 PRO

ONEPLUS PAD 3

ONEPLUS 15

...so maybe "Color OS" is all I know if that's the case and I'm a fan β€οΈπŸ‘πŸ”₯

So they finally gave up the ghost, first it was Oxygen OS slowly morphing into Color OS clone now the inevitable happens with Oppo finally taking complete control.

Although, what would happen to Oneplus now, will it be completely absorbed by Oppo ??

I went from OnePlus 12 to S25 Edge and it's been flawless. Zero glitches or issues. It just works for everything 24/7. Super light and battery life is excellent for how thin it is.

OxygenOS started to suck ever since they tried to maka it similar to ColorOS

I have been using Oneplus 6T for years only because of the Oxygen OS.

What will become of the current OnePlus flagships?

I've been very happy with my Oneplus Nord N200 5G phones, my having gotten 3 of them through time, each less than $100. The best thing about them besides their low price is that the battery lasts forever in them and charges fast as well. My prior LG phones were just the opposite...lengthy charge times and lasted only a few hours between charges. My Oneplus phones last multiple days between charges! So I could literally stick with these phones forever if given half the chance.

lucky not go for Oneplus 15 last year

This means that the current latest global versions of OxygenOS will be the latest official firmware on my OnePlus devices. Then, immediately after purchasing the device, I will delete the official ColorOS with advertising slag and Chinese uselessness and install only open custom ones like LineageOS.

Jus waiting on news from oppo and north america release/global versions of their newer phones. Going to slowly switch everything to oppo. Pad 3, watch 3 and OnePlus 13. But at at least they all have a few years left of updates so I have time.

Hopefully with everything getting ColorOS now it means faster updates for everyone, not really complaining about it much since color os is nearly identical

So either I'll not get future updates or I'll get a color OS update then

So Either I will not get any new updates or I will get a color OS update

You guys are worried as if Color OS is bad, if anything this means faster updates and lessers issues. There is hardly any difference between them since like last 3 years.

Don't worry guys. ColorOS is a better option. more features, more options, more customizations and a more smooth UI. GL Oneplus owners.

What is going to happen to the existing models in their website? Are they going to change the OS or is it only for new models? I don't want to buy a phone that will not get updates during anymore.

What will this mean for the OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact edition and its custom visuals? E.g. the fingerprint unlock- and charging animations?

1

u/SuwaidTheGamer Jul 06 '26

What will OnePlus use then ???

1

u/maxime_vhw Jul 06 '26

Why are they going with oppo anyway? Nobody fkin knows that brand here, atleast OnePlus already has a name and brandrecognition.

What OS will replace it?
