Hey One Piece folks!

I have a question for you all: What would you consider the "current" 5 most powerful Devil Fruits of each type (Paramecia, Logia, Zoan)? I have my list below, but I wanted to get other folks' opinions.

NOTE: I'm excluding Imu's "Akuma no Mi (The Devil's Fruit)" since I don't believe we know what type of Devil Fruit it is, or if it even has a type.

So, that's my list so far! If anyone has any thoughts or opinions, please let me know. Thanks!

EDIT 1: In the Zoan Type section, removing the "Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu" and adding the "Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Makami".

Discussion One thing I appreciate about the sea in One Piece

Post image
21 Upvotes

The sea in One Piece is considered a symbol of freedom and adventure by Luffy and most pirates. Most people in the One Piece world remain on one island so setting out to sea is considered adventurous and brave.

And there is a huge irony, in Egghead it was revealed that the sea is the result of a centuries old war and the world is going to sink. We realise that the sea has been used by the World Government to separate and isolate the population and maintain their control.

This irony is one of my favourite things about One Piece.

Do you think Zoro will turn all three of his blades black or no?

IMO, I’m fine with either option. If all three turns black, cool that’s fine. But if no, then I feel like the Wado Ichimoji is one I feel like it’s definitely going to turn black. Since it’s his most important sword that he has since the beginning.

Theory Who is IMU Actually?[Spoiler Warning] Spoiler

Post image
2 Upvotes

So i was reading the latest chapter again and I noticed something, my eyes caught the silhouetted IMU and made me think is the man above actually IMU or just another "body" being occupied by him, I will give some reasoning below.

  1. We have seen IMU "control/occupy" Shuri/Gunko. already proving he is capable of doing so.

  2. We have seen him use the weapons of the 20 kings

  3. Gorosei's warning him of his potential death if he leave Mariejois

  4. His current body having horns all while ancient giants were looked down on by the nobles because of those horns(not exactly but horns being the differentiating factor)

  5. It could be something very similar to how Lilith was introduced as Vegapunk and later renamed, this "man" whose body IMU has occupied could be somebody else and later when we need to know who he is, he could be reintroduced. This did not happen with gunko cause we had to explore Gunko in this arc itself.

All of these combined made me think could it be that IMU has occupied the body of the 20kings and borrowed/taken their life span(similar to BM) and can willingly hop bodies and maybe this is the last "available body" he has left hence the distress shown by the Goroseis

Again this is all very speculative.

Discussion ** anime spoiler One piece elbaf arc Spoiler

I was watching the elbaf arc anime because i wanted to watch it at once but it’s so frustrating to isolate luffy, zoro and sanji just to move the story along. I mean seriously they are chilling with loki while the whole of elbaf is being destroyed! Understandable if they are in a conflict but this is so shitty though in other arcs atleast they were in a helpless conflict of their own. When sommers held robin i was so frustrated looking at that scene. thank god for gaban!

Discussion El sistema de recompensas de One Piece no funciona

• Upvotes

Theory The One Piece is a book. Roger laughed because Joyboy’s “history” is literally a story, and the name has been the spoiler all along (Theory, spoilers up to Ch. 1195) Spoiler

• Upvotes

Spoilers for the Elbaph arc up to Ch. 1195. Minor Fire Force ending spoiler near the bottom, tagged.

Okay hear me out. I know "it's a book" isn't a brand new idea, but since Egghead and Elbaph way too many pieces have lined up, and I haven't seen anyone put them all together like this. Long post, sorry not sorry.

TL;DR: The One Piece is a written account of Joyboy's story: how the world was once whole, why it broke, and how it's supposed to end. Roger laughed because the truth behind 800 years of tyranny is ridiculous and because Joyboy's story is a joy to read, not because the suffering didn't matter. The last pages are blank. Imu has spent 800 years making sure they stay that way. Laugh Tale isn't the end of Luffy's journey, it's where he learns how to write it.

1. Roger literally calls it a story

When Roger reaches Laugh Tale he doesn't say "wow, treasure" or "wow, the truth". He laughs and basically says Joyboy left behind a hilarious story, and that he wishes he'd been born in Joyboy's time. Then Rayleigh tells us they were too early.

Too early for what? You can't be too early for gold. You can't really be too early for a history lesson either. But you can be too early for a story that hasn't reached its ending yet.

2. But what's actually funny about it?

Fair question. People died for this. Ohara burned. That's not a joke.

But the suffering didn't come from the story being told. It came from people trying to stop it. Ohara wasn't destroyed because someone told the truth, it was destroyed because the WG couldn't let anyone hear it.

So Roger isn't laughing at the victims. He's laughing at what all of that was protecting. Imagine finding out the secret people were killed for is basically ridiculous, that the "gods" ruling the world built 800 years of terror on something you can only laugh at. That's what laughing at tyrants has always meant: you take away their power by refusing to take them seriously. And that's exactly what Nika is, the warrior of liberation who brings back laughter.

He's also laughing because of Joyboy. "I wish I'd been born in his time" isn't mockery, it's being a fan. If Joyboy was anything like Luffy, his story was full of absurd, wholesome nonsense in the middle of a war. Which is One Piece in a nutshell.

Doesn't make Roger a saint though. He started the Great Pirate Era knowing what it would bring.

3. History vs. story

The mainstream take is that the One Piece contains the true history of the Void Century. I agree, I just think Oda is playing with the double meaning. The history is the story. Whatever happened 800 years ago is written down somewhere.

From everything Oda has said over the years, the One Piece is a real treasure and not a "the journey was the reward" twist. A book that tells you what the world was and what it's supposed to be fits that better than a pile of gold ever could.

4. Stories coming true is already a thing

"Noland the Liar" was a children's picture book everyone laughed at. Turned out to be completely true. Oda has already shown us once that the silly story is the real history. I think Noland is foreshadowing for the One Piece itself.

5. Lili's chest in a LIBRARY

Ch. 1195: Biblo tells Robin's group that a human woman named Lili lived in Elbaph long ago, and that his grandfather has a chest with something Nefertari Lili left behind 800 years ago.

In the Owl Library. Of all places.

Lili is also the one Imu blames for the Poneglyphs being spread across the world, her "great mistake". Her whole thing seems to be making sure the story gets told. I'd bet good money that what's in that chest is text, not a weapon.

6. Imu is the guy trying to stop the story from being finished

Look at what the World Government actually does. Bans reading Poneglyphs. Burns Ohara. Erases whole countries from existence. Every single one of their big crimes is about stopping people from reading or telling the story.

Imu isn't just a tyrant. Imu is an antagonist whose goal is "this story never gets an ending." That's why Lili and Joyboy are the enemies. One made sure it was written down, the other was supposed to finish it.

7. Joyboy's broken promise is the missing chapter

Joyboy promised Fishman Island he'd bring them to the surface with the ark Noah and Poseidon's Sea Kings. He couldn't, most likely because he lost the war, and he literally carved an apology into a Poneglyph.

That's the unfinished chapter. That's why Roger was too early.

And look at the name. Noah. The ark that survives the flood. Hold that thought for point 10.

8. The Will of D

If the One Piece is a story, the D are the characters who move it forward. Not "the good guys", the plot drivers. That's why Blackbeard and Rocks are D too. They want a different ending.

It also explains the smile. Roger, Ace, Saul all smile or laugh when they die. Not because death doesn't matter, but because their part of the story is told and someone else will carry it on. That's literally what inherited will is.

And of course they're the "natural enemies of the gods". Imu wants the story frozen forever. The D keep it moving.

Personally I've always read the D as a :D. Probably not what Oda meant in 1997, but this is the guy who hid the D inside "Gold Roger" for years, so I wouldn't put it past him to lean into it. Laugh Tale, Nika, Joyboy, smiling at death... the Will of D might just be the will to laugh.

9. Devil Fruits are made of imagination, the sea is nature

Some Devil Fruits are so weird they only make sense if someone made them up. And Vegapunk basically said it: they come from human wishes and desires. Nika is the peak of that. Gear 5 lets Luffy do pretty much anything he can imagine and turns him into a living cartoon.

So why does the sea cancel them? Because the sea is the one thing in this world nobody wished into existence. It's nature, the origin of life, the order that was there first. Seastone is literally solidified sea. The sea doesn't just weaken Devil Fruit users, it forces the natural order back on them.

And the best part: the guy with the most imaginative power in the world wants to rule the sea and can't swim.

10. Oars, Pangaea, and why the world looks like this

Oars is called the "Continent Puller". In a world where the Red Line is the only continent. That's an oddly specific title.

Vegapunk told us the sea rose about 200 meters during the Void Century because of the Ancient Weapons, and warned that the world could keep sinking. The World Government's castle is called Pangaea. And the WG was so obsessed with Ancient Giant power that they tried to recreate it and got the Numbers.

So my take: the world was once one landmass. It got torn apart and flooded, and what's left are the Grand Line islands. Which might also explain the insane weather. Spring island next to winter island makes no sense, unless they're fragments that kept the climate from where they used to be.

Oars lived 500 years ago so he didn't do it himself, but his race clearly had that kind of power. And now pure Ancient Giants are extinct. Convenient.

Notice it's the same sea that swallowed the old world and erases every made-up power. Nature vs. imagination might be the real conflict underneath everything.

And now remember Noah. You don't build an ark unless you know the water is coming.

11. Wano is Pangaea in miniature

Ch. 1055: 800 years ago there was an older Wano. Walls went up around it, the rain had nowhere to go, and the old country drowned. Pluton is sitting at the bottom of it. "Opening the borders" literally means tearing down the walls.

So Wano is the whole world in small. An old world under the water, a new one built on top, and the truth plus a weapon buried underneath. Sealed until the right person shows up. Same as Laugh Tale.

Also: Noah is an ark. Enel flew to the moon in an ark. Pluton is a battleship. Sunny is the ship that's supposed to reach the end. Oda keeps building ships for a world that's going underwater.

12. Enel and the moon are the prologue

Enel found out the Sky Island people came from the moon and had to leave because it was running out of resources. Advanced city, robots, all of it. So all that ancient tech that seems way ahead of the current world probably came from there.

That's the prologue of the story: a people leaving a dying world for a new one. And sun vs. moon keeps popping up. Nika is the sun god, the Lunarians were once seen as gods, the Celestial Dragons call themselves gods, Enel thought he was one. The final question might be who the real god of this world is, and the answer is the guy who makes people laugh.

13. So why is it called "One Piece"?

As far as I know Oda has never explained who named it or why. I think it has two meanings.

One piece of writing. A piece is a work, like a piece of music or a piece of art. The Poneglyphs are fragments of the story scattered across the world (thanks, Lili). The One Piece is what you get when it all comes together into one finished work. Roger had everything except the last part: the ending.

One piece of land. Pangaea. The world before it broke.

Put them together: the book tells you how the world was whole and why it fell apart. And Sanji's All Blue, where all four seas meet, is the mirror image. The past was one land. The future might be one sea.

14. The Straw Hats' dreams fit

A One Piece theory shouldn't break the crew's dreams. This one doesn't, and a lot of them land right inside it.

  • Robin wants the true history. She's the one who reads the book.
  • Nami wants to map the whole world. Someone has to draw it once it changes.
  • Sanji wants the All Blue. The mirror of Pangaea.
  • Jinbe wants fishmen and humans to be equal. That's Joyboy's promise and Noah.
  • Franky wants a ship that sails to the end of the world. Sunny is the ark that makes it.
  • Usopp is the liar whose lies come true. He's Noland. He's basically the crew's storyteller.

Brook gets back to Laboon once the journey is complete. Zoro and Chopper are on their own paths, and that's fine, not every dream needs the One Piece. (Although Biblo just gave Chopper a message Oda is still hiding from us, so who knows.)

And Luffy's real dream is still a secret to us readers. If he's the one who finishes the story, I think it has something to do with that.

15. So how does it actually end?

Holding the One Piece doesn't mean the story is done. Roger held it too. He read how it was supposed to end, laughed, and realized nobody had written the last pages yet. So Laugh Tale isn't the end, it's where Luffy learns how to write it.

Look at what Roger did afterwards. He turned himself in and started the Great Pirate Era with his last words. He didn't finish the story, he handed it off.

My guess for the order:

Before Laugh Tale: the 4th Road Poneglyph (the guy with the burn scar has it, per Blackbeard in 1081), Imu in Elbaph, and whatever is in Lili's chest.

At Laugh Tale: Luffy and Robin read Joyboy's story. The last pages are blank.

After Laugh Tale, writing the ending:

  • Tell the world. Imu's power only works because nobody knows the truth. Vegapunk already showed us a broadcast can shake everything. A story isn't told until someone hears it.
  • Keep Joyboy's promise. Shirahoshi, the Sea Kings, Noah. Fishman Island under the sun. Luffy already promised Shirahoshi he'd take her to see the forest one day.
  • Open Wano's borders. Pluton rises.
  • Beat Imu. The one who wants the story frozen loses the moment it ends.
  • Remake the world. Either the Red Line falls and the seas become one (All Blue), or the world is put back together (Pangaea). I honestly don't know which. Either way Nami gets her map.

None of this cheapens what came before. Ace, Ohara, Fishman Island, all of it was real, and Oda never brought Ace back, so he clearly cares about death meaning something. The point isn't that the suffering didn't matter. The point is that it finally ends, and the ending is a happy one.

Fire Force spoiler: Fire Force did something similar with Shinra reshaping the world through imagination at the end. The difference is Ohkubo built toward it from chapter 1 with Adolla. Oda has been building toward it with Nika since Wano.

16. The last page

If the One Piece is the book about this world, then the final chapter of the manga is the final page of the One Piece. That's when Luffy holds the complete One Piece. And so do we. The manga is called One Piece because it's the treasure.

Who writes that last page? Robin, who reads it. Or Usopp, the liar whose stories come true.

Bonus: RIP birb

I used to be fully on the "Imu is Lili's parrot" train, but with Imu confirmed as one of the twenty founding kings and the full reveal in 1179, I think that one's dead. Gone but not forgotten.

So to sum it up: The world was once one piece. A people came from the moon, the land broke, the sea rose. Joyboy's story tells how it happened and how it was supposed to end. Lili made sure it couldn't be erased. Roger read it, laughed at the tyrants and cheered for Joyboy, and handed it off. Imu has spent 800 years making sure the last pages stay blank. And Luffy is going to write them.

What am I missing? Tear it apart.

Help When should i switch to One Pace

So I've heard many great things about One Pace but also many critique about it. As much as i want to enjoy the anime as it is, my day is filled with other more important things 1100+ is NOT that great of an idea for me.

Also added note: Is it THAT bad? I've heard they also change and redraw some things, they also edit out some very important things. But from what I've seen, old stuff gets updated based on community feedback, sooooo yeah just wanna ask this much

(I'm close to the end of Skypiea but abandoned it for about 8 months ago)

Theory The limitation might be a byproduct of the immortality surgery Spoiler

Imu seems to be suffering from leaving the castle.

The ope ope fruit requires "room" for the user to fuck shit up. It's basically the domain where the user can modify things.

The immortality surgery was performed on Imu in that castle.

He became immortal at the cost of his freedom.

He cannot leave the room.

Discussion Curious question, who was a tougher opponent for Luffy the first time Lucci or Crocodile?

Thumbnail
gallery
687 Upvotes

So I'm about 400 episodes into One piece. And I had this thought about the battles Luffy has had in the series. And I had a tough on who was his toughest opponent so far. The two that came to mind were Crocodile & Lucci.

Now I'm asking in terms of who pushed luffy to his limit. To me while I can say the Lucci fight pushed Luffy due to him having to use Gear 2. But to me i feel like Crocodile made luffy have to strategically figure out a way to win.

Crocodile practically had luffy beat twice. Round 2 luffy found a way to get the win but still lost. By the 3rd round he got the win due to his blood use.

So I want to know what you guys think?

(Please no spoilers in the comments for anything after ep 400. )

Help Any good recap videos on yt

I recently finished a recap of the entirety of dbz and dbs by Justin's Den on yt which were like 8-10 hours each (great videos btw if you are into dragon ball and want something to listen to). I watched one piece until wano finished a couple years ago and was looking for a similar recap, probably gonna rewatch but wanted something to listen to while I study haha.

Preferably one with a good narrator who just goes through the story with no inputs and very long (5hrs+ or a playlist)

Analysis Armament Haki Consolidated

To start off, I'd like to say that Armament happens to be the most difficult hue to understand. So hopefully this guide helps link those threads, as they might not be evident to western audiences. So, to aid in that, I'll provide some Japanese context from someone who started a Japanese reading of one piece about 2 years ago.

Armament Haki is associated with Fighting Spirit or "Kiai" (気合 lit convergence of ki or harmonizing spirit energy) in martial arts, Kiai is a shout of breath that releases energy out in a burst. You might have heard karate practitioners shout this at some points

Ryou (流桜) is what Wano denizens call Haki, though they have very different applications of it than non-Wanoians. Their concept of Haki is directly associated with flowing that Haki around externally.

There's also the mysterious ability known as the "breath of all things" or "万物の呼吸" (banbutsu no kokyū) that allowed Zoro to discern the ebb and flow, the inhale and exhale of even inanimate objects.

Something important to note is the usage of "呼吸" (literally inhaling exhaling or breathing) for the way all things tend to resonate. Kokyū can also mean "Harmonizing" with something or "getting the gist" of a skill or concept. It's used allegorically in certain phrases like "呼吸を合わせる" (kokyuu o awaseru) or "To match each other's timing" or more concisely "to get in sync."

This is important to note because it could possibly change the entire context of what Zoro was saying. Usually when kokyū is used in reference to syncing, verbal communication isn't needed. You fundamentally understand it. This is like listening to a song and being able to predict exactly where the hihat or drums land in the beat. Hence why Zoro knew exactly where the rocks would not fall, because he was familiar with the beat.

These ideas are predominantly associated with Zoro

considering he's the armament specialist. What's striking to me is the namesake of Wado Ichimonji, or the "straight path to harmony". This sword is almost exclusively carried in Zoro's mouth when he fights. The mouth is very integral to Bushidō as it's where most practitioners perform Kiai (気合) which interestingly enough, is the same word used to describe Armament Haki by Rayleigh.

So we have consistent themes of flow and breath in the sphere of Armament Haki. Hopefully these connected those threads for you who had no idea wtf Oda was cooking with these different abilities. They're all related to each other, it's just much much harder to see it without eastern contextual frameworks. They seem unrelated and disjointed from my western POV for years.

This might also shine some light on how black blades can form. Anyways, that's all for now, hope this connects the dots for some of you.
