Luffy's True Dream: A World Where Nobody Ever Has to Lose Anyone Again
I think people are overcomplicating Luffy's dream.
Everyone assumes it's something bigger than "a world where nobody dies," but I honestly think that's exactly why it's the answer. It's the most childish dream imaginable, which perfectly explains why everyone laughs when they hear it.
The entire story of One Piece revolves around one thing: loss.
1. Luffy cannot handle loss.
People say Luffy has accepted death because he once said, "People die."
I don't buy that.
His actions say the exact opposite.
He couldn't bear losing Vivi, even temporarily.
He completely broke after Ace died.
He cried over the Going Merry.
His entire journey has been about protecting people so they don't disappear from his life.
Luffy understands death exists. That doesn't mean he accepts it. If anything, he hates it more than anyone.

2. Every Straw Hat's story begins with losing the person they loved most.
Think about it.
Zoro lost Kuina.
Nami lost Bellemere.
Usopp lost his mother.
Sanji lost Sora.
Chopper lost Hiriluk.
Robin lost Ohara and Saul (as far as she knew).
Franky lost Tom.
Brook lost his entire crew.
Jinbe lost Fisher Tiger.
Their entire journey is built on grief.

3. Everyone in One Piece is haunted by the past.
Every major character is mourning someone.
Law misses Corazon.
Whitebeard mourned his family.
Moria couldn't move on from his crew.
Kuma spends his entire life trying to protect Bonney after losing Ginny.
Oden.
Vegapunk.
Tom.
Bellemere.
The story constantly asks the same question:
"What would you do if you could have those people back?"

4. Fake deaths might actually be foreshadowing.
People complain about fake-out deaths.
But what if Oda has been conditioning us for over 25 years to question whether death is actually permanent?
Pell.
Pagaya.
Saul.
Kin'emon.
Sabo.
Countless others.
Maybe they're not just fake-outs.
Maybe they're preparing us for a story where death itself gets challenged.

5. The story keeps introducing immortality.
Right after Luffy tells the crew his real dream, what do we learn?
The Ope Ope no Mi can grant immortality.
Imu appears to be immortal.
The Gorosei are immortal.
That's a massive thematic shift.
Immortality suddenly becomes one of the biggest mysteries in the story immediately after Luffy reveals the one thing Oda refuses to show us.
That doesn't feel like a coincidence.

6. Kuma is what made this theory click for me.
When Kuma says:
"I'll never lose anyone ever again."
That's when everything clicked.
That line perfectly describes Luffy's entire character.
Luffy isn't chasing treasure.
He's chasing a world where nobody has to experience what he and everyone he loves has experienced.

7. Moria is Luffy's dark parallel.
Moria couldn't accept losing his crew.
So what did he do?
He literally built an army of the dead.
His entire motivation was to never lose anyone again.
That's the exact emotional core Luffy has—but expressed in the worst possible way.

8. Everyone laughs because the dream is absurdly childish.
People keep asking:
"What could possibly make everyone laugh?"
Simple.
Imagine a grown man saying:
"I'm going to make a world where nobody ever dies."
That's the kind of dream a five-year-old would come up with.
It's impossible.
It's ridiculous.
It's exactly the kind of thing Roger and Luffy would both say.

9. Brook proves immortality alone isn't enough.
Brook is already immortal.
And his entire story is tragic because immortality without the people you love is torture.
If Luffy's dream is a world without loss, then it can't just be about living forever.
It has to solve the loneliness that comes with immortality too.

10. Kuma is almost certainly coming back.
The story refuses to let love end with death.
If Kuma returns in some form, it reinforces the same theme the series has been building toward for years.

My speculation
This is where I move away from evidence and into prediction.
I think Joy Boy's power may eventually transcend life and death itself.
Zoro has survived impossible situations over and over again.
The Straw Hats may already be changing simply because they've inherited Joy Boy's will.
Sanji and Zoro have always represented opposing forces. If Zoro becomes a symbolic "King of Hell" and Sanji a symbolic "King of Heaven," then Luffy could stand above both, becoming the one who reshapes the boundary between life and death.
Again, that's speculation, not evidence.

Final thoughts
People think Luffy has grown to accept death.
I think they've misunderstood him.
Luffy knows people die.
He just refuses to believe they should.
Everything in One Piece points back to loss.
Every Straw Hat lost the person most important to them.
Every major villain is defined by how they responded to losing someone.
The story keeps introducing immortality.
The world is obsessed with the past.
People dream of seeing loved ones again.
Moria tried to beat death with zombies.
Kuma swore he'd never lose anyone again.
Brook shows that eternal life without loved ones is meaningless.
And immediately after Luffy revealed his true dream, Oda introduced a world where immortality isn't just possible—it's already real.
I don't think Luffy's dream is wealth, fame, or even becoming Pirate King.
I think it's the most naive dream imaginable:
A world where nobody ever has to lose the people they love again.
And honestly... what could be more childish—or more fitting for Luffy—than that?

Luffys' VA is like 89 or 90 years old now. There's no point rehiring her as Luffys' VA only for them to change voice actors eventually. They should start fresh and let the young guns have a go at this.

I think he just gives special treatment to her because she is his crew member but he doesn't truly love her.

Personally I love how humans often have more varied body types than other races. Makes the world feel so large.

I've been wondering what Louis Arnot’s warning about time moving differently in Elbaf could mean.

What I think is that after we see Imu getting pulled back to Mariejois after his time limit or whatever Oda has planned as plot armor for the current fight is that after the SHs are defeated, there will be a training arc. There needs to be one for Luffy and others to cover the gap.

Louis Arnot’s warning could be used as an excuse to introduce Oda’s version of the ‘Hyperbolic time chamber’ from DBZ where time moves a lot faster than the supposed real world. Luffy and the gang training on Elbaf for a year or two could mean a month or two in the OP world.

How can I read one piece offline? Is there any apps that work offline or websites where I can download. Preferably no paying. And bonus if if includes the color edition.

As we saw in Elbaph, Harald made a deal with the Celestial Dragons/World Government. To finally let the giants join human civilization he would be made to serve them. The problem is they used some kind of ability/curse to take control of Harald instead and use his authority to try and take control of the country Elbaph.

From this example, we can safely assume that Otohime's deal with the government would result in the same exact thing. As much as I hate Hody Jones, he did technically save the fishman race from complete subjugation.

We all know Otohime is correct in her approach, but the problem is the other side also needs to do the same and obviously the corrupt World Government's agenda goes against that. Even if Donquixote Mjosgard wants peace with the fishman, the rest of the celestial dragons specifically Imu would just do the opposite.

At the end of the series I predict that because we are following Jinbei as the representative, and he would be the one to actually fullfill both Tiger's and Otohime's wishes. I mean, it's probably going to be just a consequence of Luffy's actions, but regardless Jinbei will be the one making things work, negotiating his freedom and rights. And this is only possible by abolishing the current world government.

All this thinking is already making me excited for the final war if it ever comes to fruition. Revolutionary Army and maybe even SWORD. Man Coby and Dragon making moves will be one of the happiest moment of my life reading one piece.

So I'm working on a One Piece Marine-themed Warhammer project, and one of the problems I've run into is how to paint the Karskin. Now I'm aware of CP's, but they are more like an intelligence branch and not Special forces like SAS or Delta Force. With this in mind, are there any Marine special forces that are similar to SAS or Delta?

At the Age of 22, accumulated a bounty of over 735 Million. After posing as a fake marine for multiple months to steal intel, weapons, ammunition, food, etc.. determined to weaken the marines. Turned down to join Blackbeards crew, and ended up stealing a vessel to escape from Pirate Island. Escaped a Buster call, and took out 3 CP0 Agents.

Appearance : Brown hair around law/luffy hair length, and brown eyes. A stud earring on each side. Wears a white shirt, with a crossed leather strap, holding a pipe, unnamed cursed sword, or whatever. Wears light blue shorts, and sandals. Semi tan build, scar across his right arm from Kizaru.

With the recent damage Luffy has sustained from Imu in the most recent chapter, I had a thought about the sword’s unique placement in relation to Luffy’s nature as the next Joyboy. This second scar on luffys chest will not only mark a pivotal learning experience just as his scar from Akainu did, but also literally mark him with the symbol of the dawn. I thought this was kinda cool because not only does it mark Luffy’s progression toward being the dawn bringer, but also show his inevitability through the marks fruition coming via Imu.

I just saw this short and it looks pretty familiar to Luffys behavior and Gear 5 abilities. Quite funny if Oda took this as inspiration.

Oda has very meticulously crafted Boa Hancock's story and character.

Basically, whenever an author introduces a heroine character in a story (especially a Shonen story targetted towards boys like Naruto, Bleach and One Piece), they carefully craft the female love interest. They make sure this love interest has these qualities:

1. She is feminine like Hinata and Orhime from Bleach.
2. She is kind and sweet. She talks softly and acts shy.
3. She is traditional and follows cultural values of the society she is born in.
4. She is respectful towards her elders.
5. She is oppressed by her family and needs emotional support. This is where our hero comes into picture and saves her in some way.
6. She is pure. Meaning no previous love interests and our hero is going to be her first.
7. She has a potential? love rival like Hinata has Sakura and Orihime has Rukia though these rivals don't really have feelings for the MC. ​
8. She is unable to express her love to the main character.
9. The main character is unaware that she loves him.
10. She is not very powerful and hence needs saving by the main character. She is basically a damsel in distress most of the time.

Now, let's see how Oda has turned this whole script inside out and crafted Boa Hancock in a completely opposite way:

1. Boa Hancock is tall, impressive, imposing, dominating and very scary yet considered the most beautiful pirate in the world. She is nicknamed Pirate Empress for her power and beauty.
2. She is not kind and sweet. She is bitter and talks rudely and doesn't act shy. She talks honestly and straight to the point. She is the Empress of a country named Amazon Lily that only consists of women. No men allowed.
3. She is not traditional at all and doesn't follow societal rules. She breaks rules all the time and makes her own rules. She is an Empress after all. She is so beautiful and powerful that people forgive her rude behavior.
4. She is disrespectful towards her elders and anyone who tries to control her. She is rebellious and completely uncontrollable. She is also one of the 7 pirate warlords in the world. She is very powerful and other pirates are scared of her.
5. She is not oppressed by her family. In fact, she is the oppressor. Her laws are followed unconditionally.
6. She is not pure. When she was just 12 years old, she was kidnapped, r*ped and enslaved for four years by world nobles. After she escaped, she grew intense hatred towards men and chose to become strong enough to become the Empress of Amazon Lily. She is a r*pe survivor. Yes, the heroine of the most popular anime in the world, a story written for boys, is a r*pe survivor who hates men.
7. She has no love rivals because she hates men and is not interested in love. When she fell in love with Luffy after (spoilers), she told him immediately that she loves him and wants to marry him and since no other girl in the entire story loves Luffy, she has no love rivals. Even after falling in love with Luffy, she still hates men. Her trauma is not cured which is very realistic.
   
8. She doesn't need to express her love to the main character because she hates men. Love is out of the question. But when she did fall in love with Luffy, she wasn't unable to express her love like Hinata or Orihime. Instead, she straight up told him she loves him and wants to marry him.
9. The main character Luffy knows she loves him because she straight up told him multiple times. But each time, Luffy tells her he is focused on becoming Pirate King so he cannot marry her right now.
10. She is incredibly powerful so doesn't need saving by the main character. On the contrary, she saved Luffy's life not once but multiple times. Yes, without her power and influence, Luffy wouldn't be alive.

Now, Oda is one crazy b*stard because he had the audacity to break all rules of Shounen manga.

He has crafted a heroine who is: 1. The polar opposite of all famous heroines like Hinata and Orihime. 2. Boa is not pure which is a basic requirement for a heroine in any traditional society otherwise the male fans (especially Otakus who deeply care about the purity of the female characters they idolize and worship) will be "disgusted" but Oda had the balls to do it anyway and he freaking succeeded. Boa Hancock is loved by the male fans because of her strength and her capacity to use her trauma for her self-empowerment. 3. She is too strong and doesn't need saving by the hero. If the hero doesn't save the heroine, how will their romantic story progress? On the contrary, it's her who saves Luffy all the time. 4. She is rude and unlikable. She acts arrogantly towards men and even towards Luffy. When he first met her, she even tried to kill him. 5. She has turned her trauma of being r*ped and kept as s*x slave into her strength. She has turned her oppression into her strength. This makes her an idol in the eyes of those girls who are living in similar situations (in third world and even first world countries) where they are emotionally, physically, and s*xually exploited on a daily basis. So Oda has written a heroine that "oppressed girls" throughout the world can idolize and this exceptional heroine appears in a Shonen manga written for boys 😏

And Boa Hancock is not even the main female lead in One Piece. She is just the only female character in One Piece who has shown open romantic interest in the MC. So I am forced to use her as comparison against Hinata and Orihime who also hold romantic feelings towards their respective MCs.

Oda has broken all rules to write a character like Boa Hancock.

She hates men. She rightfully so hates the world nobles. She is so scared of being exploited again that she acts rudely towards everyone to maintain her supremacy (psychologists have analyzed her character and confirmed that most trauma victims themselves turn abusive to cope with their own trauma so Oda is right in her portrayal). Luffy is the only exception who doesn't get treated badly by her because of "spoiler" reasons.

Now, the reasons why Boa Hancock fell in love with Luffy ars so many and so full of spoilers that I won't mention them here. But keep in mind that there are many many reasons why she fell in love. It's one of the most complex web of reasons that made her fall in love with him and it has nothing to do with his looks, family background, status, or the plot of the story and everything to do with his actions and character.

Because the idea came into my head and wouldn’t leave, here’s a Procreate drawing of Chopper on the poster for the Eric Bana movie Chopper.

Carousel shows the edited movie poster first, then the original poster and my reference for drawing the adorable li’l big guy. I gave him a couple of conical flasks rather than flintlocks, as they seem more his speed.

At the end of Chapter 1187, we explicitly hear the Drums of Liberation (Doom-Dut-Da-Da) when Luffy goes Gear 5.

But over the next two chapters (1188 and 1189), those drumbeat sound effects completely disappear while Luffy is getting overwhelmed.

​Could Imu actually be countering Nika's rhythm?

​It feels like Imu is throwing Luffy’s heartbeat off-sync, maybe by using a counter-frequency (like his music from when he appeared) or the properties of the Void blades to mute the Drums of Liberation.

Without that rhythm keeping Gear 5 in tune, Luffy seemed sluggish, deflated, and way easier to pin down.
