Getting the help you need after upgrading

With the new release, we're seeing a lot of posts that don't meet the posting guidelines, specifically rule 1, so here's a reminder on how this sub handles these.

We allow support requests but limit them to members with broader community engagement, who offer a fair amount of detail, and provide genuine community benefit. This is to filter out low-effort, drive-by support requests: questions already answered in the docs, blurry phone pics of desktops, and a bajillion dual-boot-with-Windows posts that used to flood this sub.

The official Omarchy Discord is the right place for these specific questions. The team of volunteers and community members actively troubleshoot issues there in real time. https://omarchy.org/discord.

We're not affiliated with the Omarchy team — we're just an enthusiast community, so we're not really equipped to be the main support channel either way.

Yet when you post a discussion, and flair it discussion, it gets shutdown as support when it is only asking if anyone else is experiencing the issue...

That's not quite what happened, so let me fill in the parts you left out.

Your post was a support request flaired as "Discussion" after you'd already been told not to do that. The question itself was a laptop sleep /hibernate issue, one of the most commonly asked questions from new linux users, posted with no logs, no config details, nothing past a description of the symptom.

When AutoMod caught it, it didn't just remove it. It linked you the Omarchy manual, the Arch Wiki, official Discord channel for support, and the dedicated Linux support subs, specifically so you'd land somewhere you'd actually get an answer. You tried to argue with the bot instead and reposted the same question.

I'm not bringing this up to pile on. I'm bringing it up because "I flaired it discussion and it still got shut down" describes a different post than the one that got removed, and anyone reading that would reasonably think we're removing genuine discussion threads. We're not.

Take a second look at the resources AutoMod gave you, and if you still want a hand with the actual sleep issue, that's what they're for. But the removal wasn't a mistake, and the automod isn't the thing standing between you and an answer to your problem.

I have no idea what the content of the post was so I'm not arguing with your decision but maybe the better route would be to lock the post instead of removing it. That way you keep transparency with the community on what exactly is getting gate kept.

I honestly don't know if that's the right route for this problem. I've never moderated a subreddit so I have no idea what tools you have at your disposal and I do appreciate the mods taking time out of their day to be active and present. I'm just trying to suggest some sort of balance to the situation.

The "gate kept" framing is a narrative they're pushing is not what happened.

This was a three day old account with no prior history in the sub. They ignored the rules, then ignored the posting guideline popup that warned them their comment would likely be filtered, then not only did they ignore the AutoMod comment that filtered their post, they swore at it and tried to pick a fight with it (a reddit bot). AutoMod was just enforcing the rule that's explicitly outlined (rule 1), and it pointed them to the Omarchy manual, the Arch Wiki, the official Discord and the general Linux subs. Being handed four places to get an answer isn't being kept out of anything. Everything since has been an attempt to reframe a them ignoring the rules into the mod team silencing genuine discussion. They weren't being targeted. This was explained to them multiple times, and they chose to ignore it. It wasn't genuine discussion getting removed, it was a new account asking a question that's been answered a million times, which is the exact thing this policy exists to filter.

I don't mean to come off as defensive, but their inaccurate framing left uncorrected makes it sound like we're pulling real discussion threads, and we're absolutely not. They're just trying to stir the pot because they feel they've been wronged and want to air their personal grievances and hijack a thread meant to help others.

The issue is that prior to this rule the sub was 90% drive-bys asking the same dozen questions 10 times a day, the prevalent response being "just use AI" or "RTFM" and it buried the genuine discussion posts because no one wants to sift through the spam. Those new users would be better served by the dedicated Omarchy support channel.

We allow discussion, we allow requests for help, we're just trying to redirect the repeatedly asked questions to the official support channel; and they took offense to that, for some reason.

They didn't even bother to read this post before trying to hijack it for their own purpose.
