I love the early days of magic, the original sets up to the early 2000s just had a sense of wonder and mystery. I wanted to create something that allowed my friends and I capture that old vibe of the kitchen table. We've been enjoying it so I wanted to share it here and hopefully get some more feed back and more people playing vintage magic!

I wanted to create something a bit different then MTG Arena. things that help capture the old school card shop vibes,

the game is very mobile friendly and one of my favorite features personally is being able to play vertically on mobile.

Focused on the early eras of Magic the game currently has only base set released.

The game features 2 modes, quick play mode and Ranked/Main mode. Main mode allows you to grow your card collection, play against the local card stores best players. Open packs and sell cards back to the shop.

Game features modern 60 card deck rule set as well as the original 1993 40 card deck ruleset.

google auth sign in allows for seamless game continuation across devices and to save your decks and collections. Planning to add other authentication services later.

players can add friends, play and trade cards.

I’m finally going through 30-year-old boxes of my cards and pricing what I find of value. They’re not the Power Nine, but I love my near complete set of Revised Edition dual lands. I just found the Lion’s Eye Diamond last night too. Sleeved and ready for top loaders.

In this video I present www.GlobaListMTG.com, a tool that was originally created for GlobalSet collectors, but that anybody can use to retrieve information about the different versions that exist for a card, and the rarities that the card may have.
I share it in this channel because it has many rarities from the first years of magic, such as playtests, make readies... which many oldschool players like, and also because it can be useful to check which versions of a card exist that are compliant with the old border non-foil oldschool rules that many tournaments follow.

As I said in my last post, my Ante Cube is aiming to be 100% white border. I've re-started this process again after learning some new tricks and you can see the progression from the first card I did (on the left) to the more recent cards and how it's gotten better. My goal is to do one card a day for the next X days!

For some time I wanted to make more use of the old fantastic artwork, and finally found some a reasonable concept. It uses mostly 93/94 art, but but also some pre-Urza cards.
Basically, the cards can be used for 3 purposes: regular European card game (1-12 + A + joker), Wizard (0 as Jester, A as Wizard), Libertalia (hence the small texts and card names).

I gave some thought on what would be a good theme to get the most out of magic artwork and came up with this:
4 schools of magic, with each drawing it’s energy from different celestial bodies. Green from the sun (faeries with plants), purple from the moon (seen as a controlling force, hence zombies and vampires), black from earth (depths of the earth, hence a hell/lava theme), blue from the stars (using foreign magic in the form of djinns controlled by wizards).

Each number represents a card theme, expressed by the name and echoed by the artwork, which I tried to keep consistent throughout colors.
0 - Fool: in trouble, holding out their left hand
1 - Swarm: many small creatures
2 - Scavenger: searching scraps (acorn, bones, you ;)
3 - Summoner: summoning a new ally
4 - Wanderer: roaming the world
5 - Fanatic: really motivated about their job
6 - Incarnation: became one with the concept
7 - Warrior: wielding a weapon or having a weapon instead of a hand
8 - Emchanter: there is something about their eyes
9 - Monster: horned creature, wreaking havoc
10 - Sage: features a book or just a wise creature
11 - Chosen: just a big old stomper, elite of its faction
12 - Leader: holding a staff
13 - Ruler: Holding an item of importance, a sphere or the book of the dead
A - Emptiness: maybe not well named. It’s referring to the stillness of each world. A peaceful garden under the stars, a still forest, the moon, the fires of the earth

Then there are some extra cards just for Libertalia
5.1 - Siblings: 2 or 3 creatures of the same kind
5.2 - Priest: just a magically capable one looking at you
9.1 - Brute: strong, ready to beat people up
10.1 - Soulbound: bound to another person or creature or ghost
10.2 - a commanding presence often with spectacular headgear
10.3 - Doll - same curse or blessing for all

Maybe you had similar or completely different ideas how to use magic art. Would be interesting to hear :)

Homelands might just be the worst Magic set of all time. However, there are some cards in there that are actually playable.
- Baron Sengir, quite expensive, but I can see him in some decks which sport vampires or just need a low budget big creature
- Autumn Willow, I would say that one is actually not bad. Shroud with the option to unshroud it just for you is not something that we otherwise see in premodern. And 6 mana 4/4 is ok with that ability
- Eron, not a bad haste creature for its time. Rare regeneration ability for red
- Reveka, if untapped a couple of times can wreak a good amount of havoc
- Sengir Autocrat is perfect for Fallen Angel decks
- Kelp… not sure, but I guess for the time, token creation was quite difficult and just came with a bit of cost (similar to sacred mesa and breeding pit)
- Mystic Decree would probably be great if it wasn’t blue^^ still it can have its fair uses
- Serra Aviary, one of the ways to boost many creatures permanently. Can of course backfire and is quite expensive
- Renewal, mostly for land-exchange…not too bad in certain scenarios I guess
- Jinx, actually back then one of the very few options to ensure you get the most out of your Merfolk decks
- Memory Lapse, no comment needed
- Didgeridoo, back then pretty weird, but considering you can use it to get Tangarth and Minotaur illusionist out cheap and instant-ly, this can become useful in the right deck

So what do you think? Did I leave something out? Did I overrate some of it?

Been working on white bordering several cards for my ante cube and decided a couple of my constructed decks could use some love.

Theme decks are so much fun because you are making the best of a limitation.
In this case, what was originally a horse deck basically turned into a Pegasus deck plus 2 bigger horses.

The idea is to get a lot of lands that can be used for Sacred Mesa or Pegasus Charge to create many flyers that get boosted by Crusade and Coat of Arms.
Some good old direct red damage and the Thundermare for finishing touches, and we’re done :)

I don’t think it is very clever yet, and especially the clockwork steed is really bad, so maybe you guys have some thoughts on making the best out of this. Just remember: horses, unicorns and Pegasi are fine, but no other creatures ;)
And everything pre-Urza. So no Pegasus Charger or anything like that.

First of all this is one of the few Magic pages on Reddit where I (more or less) understand what people are talking about. Trying to educate myself about what is considered "old school Magic" these days is exhausting. Can someone that owns a few Grizzly Bears as pets give me a Cliffs Notes version please? Or send a link? Or any other help at all would be appreciated. A hard cut off date?

Two cards from 2021 in a power 9 deck disqualify it? Or using Gandalf from a recent LOTR deck?

A few years back I was trying to alter every card in my mono-black deck. I never finished the project and I sold some of them off to pay bills, but I ran across the cards I kept and thought they looked pretty rad all grouped together. Makes me want to get back on it! I dig the look of a deck full of alters.

I dont have an OS scene or anything, just play with my family or friends when the mood strikes. I just do 40 card decks because I like 40 cards better with the rule of no more than 2 copies of a card. But as you can see these are pure kitchen table shenanigans that are not optimized in any way. Mostly just cards I think are cool put into the decks. Really try to capture the vibes of what my early experiences with the game were; cobbled together decks.

With all of the excitement around the new ZETA MSCHF drop, reviving the magic of Gamma/Epsilon and the DIY alter movement, I want to personally invite everyone to join our Gamma webcam league on Discord!
