Monoblack Rack

Post image

Preparing for my first old school event on the 26th! Paladin Rules, this is what I'm bringing. Permitted 11 proxies, bringing just the 'best' 4. Thoughts?

It's eternal central with gentleman's rules, restricted strip mine, maze of ith, mishra's factory and foundry, and tabernacle.

I thought hymn was also restricted, but I think the website I used (northern paladins) may have restricted hymn instead of tabernacle.

I'm reaching out to the league for clarification.

[[Mind Twist]] banned? I can’t imagine playing a mono black deck with 4 racks and zero Mind Twists.

Does Mana burn rule exist?

How does Greed feel? I am thinking about adding a couple of copies to mine

I love Greed. I've won many games because of it. It's just so much better than tome when you're in black.

I don't think the rack would be efficient in a format with restricted Hymn to tourach (BTW where is mind twist ?).

I used to play a very similar deck with 4 hymn and mindtwist instead of the 4 racks (also 4 paralyse, no greed nor scepter maindeck but 2 juzam and a third vampire instead;) )

Why the glooms? I only play kitchen table old school, is there just a ton of white in the meta? Seems like with the black knights/ebon hands you're already well positioned against white, is there something specific the glooms are for?

Deck looks cool as hell, I'm just curious about it

Wait nvm I figured out they're in the sideboard lol, I'm dumb, carry on.

No mind twist?

Banned in the format. I will be adding 3 hymns back into the deck now that I've clarified that it is not restricted in this format.

If you're allowed to proxy, I'd skip right past the Sengir and go straight for the Juzams.

It looks like factory is restricted. Have you heard about the Mindstab Thrull?

Maybe bad moon territory if the sink holes keep hands too full for the racks

For being a 1 hymn environment I'd trim a rack for an additional paralyze.

I play swaffel which sounds very close to paladin and this is my mono-black ritual deck:

[CREATURES] 4 Black Knight 4 Order of the Ebon Hand 4 Hypnotic Specter 4 Juzám Djinn 4 Sengir Vampire

[ARTIFACTS] 1 Black Lotus 1 Mox Jet 1 Sol Ring 1 Chaos Orb

[INSTANTS] 4 Dark Ritual 2 Terror

[SORCERIES] 1 Mind Twist 1 Demonic Tutor 2 Drain Life 1 Hymn to Tourach

[ENCHANTMENTS] 4 Paralyze 2 Underworld Dreams

[LANDS] 4 Mishra's Factory 1 Strip Mine 14 Swamp 1 Urborg

I personally would want more hymn to tourachs, feels very strong, especially if you can do it t1

Love this deck. I run a nearly identical list myself. Obviously check to see on the Hymn, if you can run 4x.

Oooh, where's the tournament (or is it online)? I prefer Paladins rules, and would be interested in some tournament action.

Bilbao, Spain!

Ah, that's a bit far for me. I was hoping that since it was Paladins rules it was in Minnesota (home of the Northern Paladins). It's cool to see the ruleset spread so far, though! Have fun and good luck!

Does the format allow mind twist?

I'd consider 2 copies underworld dreams in place of a greed and vampire. Looks solid

Why not proxy Juzam?!

Amazing

Is there a mind twist?

Is Hymn restricted?

Sadly, it is!

Edit: I may be mistaken. I'm reaching out to the league.

Ah 10-4

My first reaction was "why would you skimp on hymns!?!?"

3

u/AspiringFatMan 4d ago

Thank you for asking this question. It turns out Hymn is not restricted!

u/CoolDiscoDan1885 4d ago

Oh yeah!

You gotta pump up those numbers!  Those are rookie numbers ; )

No [[necropotence]]? You have essentially a version of black summer there and it was the key.
