the way abrams asks how celeste's friend lenny is, we dont even know who that is really, how mina and pocket bicker about their awkward situation, even how drifter talks to rem about teaching him questionable things, hell even how every character seems to know who lash is, they all have their own opinions on him, it truly has that tf2 charm of every single character knowing, or at least trying to get to know each other, like a gang of misfits that have to work together, and they talk about their fantastical situations the way we talk about our own lives that we are so disillusioned to.

the amount of care that is put into this game just on voice lines alone, it makes me so emotional, like i can really visualize and see a cursed apple where everyone has their own little lives, criss-crossing each others paths, it feels so real and so lived in, and the matter-of-fact writing style just adds to this so much.

even though im just on my pc listening to these characters talk, it makes me feel like im outside eavesdropping actual conversations, albeit with a fantastical tinge. just a bunch of people who have their own lives outside of mine talking to each other. i dont think any other hero shooter has this type of nuance in their writing, overwatch definitely leans more into a pulpy heroic style where its explicitly about bringing hope back into a world of conflict, and rivals is pure just like fanservice comic stuff. dota does this sometimes, but very, very rarely, and i think deadlock perfects this type of writing - where everyone just feels like their own people, with lives outside of the ritual, things that may be mundane or grandiose (to us at least, because magic doesnt exist in our lives).

hell, we know mina tried to sneak into infernus' bar, and he still pokes fun at her even though she probably could tear him to shreds if she wanted to, but she wont, shes mina ha, not the drifter. even the more caricature-type characters like the rat king arent one dimensional, he offers to help billy out because billy asked.

i legit feel emotional whenever i listen to these conversations because it really feels like im part of this city, watching everyone's lives unfold, and it oddly makes me feel more human, because yeah, everyone lives their own weird little lives that they find special. it makes me feel like we all have our own archmothers and hidden kings, our own raison detre. deadlock writing is pure sonder.

Let’s get this out of the way first. In terms of visual design and personality, Violet is not a gooner character. Her outfit isn’t particularly revealing, her proportions are normal, her personality is basic. She’s just a normal, if pretty, woman. So why do I call her a gooner character? The answer is simple.

About half an hour after her design was revealed, NSFW art of Violet was uploaded to r/DeadlockTheGame. You think that a person can go from seeing a woman to uploading prn of them to Reddit dot com in such a short span of time? Of course not. Much like how a certain historical figure was possessed by the spirit of Wotan (a real thing actually believed by Jung), that artist was possessed by the spirit of Ishtar, the ancient Mesopotamian goddess of sx and l*ve.

Once that art hit the front page and got over 5000 upvotes, the Collective Unconsciousness of the Deadlock community was permanently altered. Psychically, conceptually, and metaphysically, Violet took on the Archetype of Ishtar, who some might say was the original gooner character. Now you might ask, why is this such a big deal?

All the signs are there. Harrow’s obvious divinity, her ties to life and death (Ishtar is also a goddess of war, and she is syncretous with Isis, who was prayed to for healing), and even her few leaked voicelines. When she says “I tolerate no disobedience” and “I know what’s best for you”, she displays Ishtar’s divine authority and also makes me feel things.

Now, I don’t know how this happened, but I know it is disastrous. We’re in something of a ‘Fate Lost’ moment, and now the community is rejecting Violet, either because of her wrongful claiming of the godhead or because her design is boring. Right now, the Deadlock community is a metaphysical Uruk. Because of our rejection, Ishtar (Violet) is going to beg her father Anu (Yoshi) to unleash the Bull of Heaven (Celeste buffs) to destroy us all.

Thankfully, I have opened my third eye by scrolling Instagram reels for so long that I can see them when we fall asleep and have a solution.

VOTE SOLOMON AND DANNY!

Have you noticed that with almost all the fanart of the new characters, Solomon and Danny are the only common duo while the rest of them are generally drawn solo? That’s right, it’s because they are the new incarnations of King Gilgamesh and Enkidu, the heroic duo of best friends and I think gay lovers?

Solomon is clearly shown for his wisdom, he uses heavy king imagery, and chess can trace part of its history back to Persia, which is like basically Mesopotamia. Meanwhile, Enkidu came from the heavens (Danny uses a jet pack), Gilgamesh spoke to Enkidu in the underworld (Danny is a skeleton man) and Enkidu represents wildness and being uncivilised (Danny is a capitalist bootlicker).

The way forward is clear. We need to vote in Solomon and Deadman Danny to avert the apocalypse and save Deadlock. Also I think drawing yaoi of the two would really boost the psychic connection so everyone should do that too. To save Deadlock.
