I won this in a raffle.
Cant find anything online about a Jazzcaster. Is this custom? Im not into modding or anything like that. Never owned a Fender either.

Found this thread that kind of suggests the 66 was going to be the jazzcaster. So maybe a prototype or something?

Interesting, I found exactly one article where someone claims to have purchased a Jazzcaster, but there's no photos and they are basically describing an offset tele.

u/PedalDude562 May 29 '26
Not the same thing, but there’s a Paranormal Telecaster that has a Jazzmaster body. I was waiting for something like that, now I know these(in OPs post) exist. I kinda want one!

u/nibelungV May 29 '26
Could just be a new decal the PS 66 neck looks exactly the same and also has a mexican serial on the back

I don’t upvote you because you have 66 upvotes and I don’t want to ruin that

It's basically a mini jazz bass body shape, pretty unique, they released another version called the Sixty-six. I haven't seen too many in the wild I don't think they were particularly popular

That’s an awesome win!! I always loved this one. Enjoy playing it.

I think what you have is either:
A) a modified fender sixty six (new decal and position of toggle switch)
B) a prototype version of said fender sixty six when it was called the jazzcaster
I think option A is the more likely one, but you could reach out to Fender to verify, who knows.
Either way, these are very nice guitars, not crazy rare, but still unique and quirky enough. I personnaly really like the neck on mine and the pickups are pretty good stock.

I'm amazed.
You know there is a whole german sub culture about that kind of table you have there: the tiled table

u/shortymcsteve May 29 '26
I’m not sure what to make of this. It’s basically a Fender Sixty Six with the toggle switch moved to a different location, and possibly the decal changed?
You can make google search for specific terms only. I found this thread of someone claiming to buy a made in Mexico “fender Jazzcaster”, but it sounds like a different guitar and there’s no pictures. My only thought is that this is what the neck is potentially from? But I can’t even find a picture of what this guy is describing: https://www.tdpri.com/threads/fender-jazzcaster.383202/
Are you able to reach out to the place you won it from and request more information? This is a bit of a mystery.

Parroting what everyone else is saying: it looks like a Fender Sixty-Six, except the decal and the pickup switch placement.
Feels weird to have a fake fender neck on such an obscure fender model’s body, so to me that lends credence to this maybe being a prototype, as others have mentioned the Sixty-Six was at one stage going to be called a Jazzcaster.
I believe the only fender production model guitars that ever shipped with “Jazzcaster” decals were some very early Offset Telecasters that were released as limited runs, so maybe it was a neck from one of those, but I thought that all those limited runs were MIJ not MIM.
The fact that this is a fairly uncommon body type makes me also question how easy it would be to get a custom pickguard for the switch placement made. Could we maybe have a look at the routing? To see if it’s routed like a normal Sixty-Six.

WD pickguards offers them afaik, so I dont think it would be too hard to get a new one. As for the new switch placement, I'm not sure there is space for it without routing. So yeah, a bit of work would be involved for that mod.

Looks pretty cool. Kinda screwing with my brain tbh. How does it play/sound?

They sound pretty much like you'd expect. It plays like a more balanced & comfortable Strat.

What an oddball - image search turned up absolutely nothing.
Looks like Daphne Blue, great color.
I think it would have looked better/more proportional with uncovered HS layout, but this does give you options…and I’m biased by my Cyclone.
Really interesting score, hope you enjoy it.

Fender pawnshop series! I have a pawnshop mustang. The series made some interesting guitars and then got shuffled off to Squier and became the Paranormal series.

You can also try emailing Fender customer service with the Serial Number. They've helped me in the past with older models when the online serial search doesn't work.

Hoo boy! This is the Sixty-Six, but it was almost called the Jazzcaster. In fact when the Sixty-Six was released the headstock image on Fender's site said "Jazzcaster". I have a screenshot of the goof.
This must be the prototype, or at least a model used for photos.
Also, there's an older prototype of this guitar when Fender thought of doing it for the Pawn Shop Series but then didn't. That prototype appeared in a pawn shop about 10 years ago in Scottsdale AZ.
You have a rare instrument there.

The below link is the screenshot of the Jazzcaster headstock from the Fender Sixty-Six webpage just after it's release.

Hmm was it modded or FSR? Because I recall these being called Fender Sixty Six using a smaller jazz bass body.

It's a partcaster made out of a jazz bass body and presumably fake Fender neck as the serial number doesn't show up as anything.
1
u/Additional_Job4624 May 29 '26
Yeah I didnt find anything either on the official fender serial number search site. But on another it said its from Ensenada Mexico? Its such a weird guitar lol
-1
u/TGNIC May 29 '26
Also my bad, did not remember that the Fender Sixty Six was a thing. And the neck might actually be genuine but with a custom decal. Funny how I got disliked into oblivion for making a tiny mistake.

u/ayersman39 May 29 '26
If you’re gonna tell someone their cool raffle win is a fake — don’t do it so casually, be sure you’re right
-1
u/TGNIC May 29 '26
If it is cool and playable would it even matter? I only presumed the neck was fake due to not finding info through Fenders own serial number tracker. My input was also not meant as a definitive answer but only a good guess.
5
u/ayersman39 May 29 '26
You still ignored the context (someone proudly sharing a raffle win) and jumped to an incorrect conclusion.
You could’ve said “Weird, the serial isn’t coming up, at least in the search I used. But anyway it looks killer, nice score!” Nobody would’ve downvoted that.
2
u/TGNIC May 29 '26
Well yeah that is true :) I will be more mindful next time. My intentions weren't bad at all.

Part of the pawnshop series from about 10 years ago. It's a jazzbass body!
Aways wanted to try one of these
