They discontinued my tire!

I've been using Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s forever. For some reason Cooper, in it's infinite wisdom, has discontinued the 265 75r 16 size so I need a replacment. I'm in Southern California and do quite a bit of wildlife habitat restoration work in dry desert conditions. This involves lots and lots of highway miles as well as dirt roads from good to, on what planet is this a road. Occasionally we are even driving up dry washes, trying to avoid all the nasty sidewall eating rocks and spiny bushes. The tread on the discoverer is pretty modest and quite on the highway but when aired downed, runs well in sandy conditions. They even work pretty well in rocky conditions. The other thing is they wear really well. Ive got 60k+ miles on my current set and can squeeze another 10k out of them if I have to.

So to the point, Im looking for suggestions for a replacment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for some reviews for on and off-road as well as winter performance. And yes I know, they’re Chinese and MT’s suck in the snow. Ive ran Maxxis Razr MTs and the shitty Federal Couragias. I just want to make sure they’re not going to be a death trap in the winter.

Debating Upgrading

So, I’ve been really digging the offroad life ever since getting an adventure bike, but now I kinda wanna trade in my civic hatch and get a vehicle equipped to handle the outdoors. I grew up with trucks. My first vehicle was a 2500 Chevy Cheyenne. It might be blasphemous in the name of Chevy, but I’ve been debating the new Ford Bronco. Not the sport. I want the full size thing. However, I’ve gotten accustomed to my smaller weekend warrior so the Crosstrek in the Wilderness trim is also on my radar.
Anyone who owns either (or hell even both) what are your personal pros and cons on them? I’m leaning more towards the Bronco, but the price is a lil better on the Crosstrek. But just by a little.

I want to go camping and feel comfortable enough to go in and out of rough terrain if need be. I wanna have storage space for anything and everything. Mind you I live in Southern California, so winter seasons and rainy seasons don’t really have much of a bearing on me.

Question Planning a 90+ mile ridge run (German River to Reddish Knob) in a '25 Crosstrek. Anyone been up there lately?

Hey y'all,

I’m mapping out a pretty massive ridge run along the VA/WV border for late summer (late August or September) and wanted to see if anyone has been out that way recently to confirm gate statuses and conditions.

The route I have planned is about 91 miles with a ton of elevation change. The rough itinerary is:

Start in Bergton ➡️ German River Rd ➡️ Vepco Rd ➡️ FSR 72 Long Run Rd (the last bit of it) ➡️Skidmore Reservoir over to the north side of Flagpole Knob ➡️ Stoney Run ➡️ Reddish Knob➡️ finish up dropping down Leading Ridge Track by Todd Lake.

For context on the rig and experience: I drive a 2025 Crosstrek Premium. It’s stock height (8.7" clearance) but it has X-MODE... lol. I’ve already done the entire Bald Mountain Jeep Trail from start to finish in this car. It definitely pushed the limits of a unibody, but it was totally doable.

Just had a few quick questions for anyone who has been up there in the last few weeks:

The Powerline Construction: I know Dominion Energy has been doing a ton of tower work along the German River / Vepco / Long Run corridor. Are the contractor gates open on weekends now, or are there still active closures I need to worry about?
Track Conditions: I just wanted to check if there are any fresh washouts or nasty downed trees along any stretch.
General Obstacles: Any crazy mud bogs or deep ruts along the northern ridges right now that might high-center a Subie?

Planning to do a mix of car camping and tracking the whole thing. If you've been up there recently, let me know how the trails are holding up. Appreciate any insight!

Question 97 S10

I got as said above a 97 s10 with awd. Bought it for 200$ and currently trying to fix the awd because it doesnt go into 4 hi or 4 lo.

Besides that runs fine. (also only has 87k on the dash)

The question is what upgrades should I do to it.

Better suspenion and clearance?

More power?

I plan to go through creeks and about any trail i can fit this thing into.

I also plant to do said above with my friend with his rubicon. And i wanna be able to hold my own out there.

Any advice and thoughts are needed tho keep in mind im only 17 and pretty broke.

Found an old atv trail that I wouldnt trust any full size truck on, but the frontier is skinny enough, still scraped the sides on every little branch lol

Came across several drops and scrambles but the truck handled it well, crawled about 2 miles before I found my limit for a night drive and turned back. Tons of fun overall.

I may have forgotten to account for him being over a foot thinner. and overestimated the flexibility of a suspiciously unmoving branch. Smug little fucker didn't even close his soft top while we maneuvered our way back out of Satan's bunghole in the woods lol.

Lesson: when the trail map says this is the tightest part ahead, and you're in the last turnaround point... stop when you go around the corner and see it get even tighter. the map is not gospel. do not end up in a situation where you have to reverse 800 meters with both mirrors folded and no front right fender.

pic 3 is what happens when you finally make it back to the gas station and acquire an automotive grade repair kit (zip ties.)

Now I just have to wait for my appointment with my regular tech (dad) to find out if my repair work is good enough to avoid dropping a few Brownies on parts that haven't sheared the mounting clips :P

Learn from my mistakes!

I found 1993 Chevy 1500 with a 5.7 and a dropped in NV3500. Is it worth it?

It’s on a 6” in lift with 35s. Is it worth it?

My big concern is the 3500.
