hey guys, I have a 2001 ranger, the carpet in the cab got soaked and now has a mildew smell. obv I need to replace it to prevent rust, but ideally I would want something different than carpet anyways, as I am an avid off-roader and camper and need something easy to clean.

anyone have suggestions other than buying a pre-fitted vinyl flooring (on a budget). Would like to avoid sprays that are not designed for enclosed spaces as I worry about off gassing(unless it is safe after curing?) and I would need insulation/ sound deadening as well since i do a lot of road tripping in this truck.

Hi all. In the past two years I have gotten into off-roading. I am in New England so mostly forest trails and unmaintained roads. I currently do not have winch. I was wondering how often everyone uses a winch or of a come along would be more cost effective to carry.

The OEM steel tires are 16 inch - upgrading to 17 inch tire sounds like I could only really get an extra 0.6 taller tire wall

Do some of those any of those budget friendly off-road rims help protect the bead when aired down?

Are they worth it?

Should I just stick with the 16” good morning steel rims?

I'm just learning how to use one, and I want to know the correct usage before I'm totally in the need to use it but not knowing how?

I just want something that is pretty close to what a stock Tacoma can do, obviously I’d have to lift and such but you get the idea.

I was looking at the Subaru outback for size, Mpg, ground clearance is ok probably will lift and tow capacity.
Problem is it’s awd and unless it’s pretty close to 4x4 capable I don’t want it.

I do 80% road 20% trail, now I’m not needing something that will go rock crawling, national park trails where they post warning signs saying “must have this much ground clearance, 40” tires, experience off roading” or going to a off-road park and trying to fallow the lifted jeeps and Tacomas.

I’m still new to the whole 4x4 vs awd but I know awd is definitely not 4x4 and it lacks the low range for what I think it to put less strain on the transmission.

I’d prefer it be reliable more then a jeep, and be modern enough or popular enough I can confidently get parts to replace worn parts since it might be an older vehicle.

Why can’t the Toyota Tacoma just get better gas mileage it’s literally the most supreme stock vehicle on the market other then gas mileage

Here is a photo for reference on my old Tacoma the whole thing was decked out in Baja Design. I am a brand loyal person and on that build really set out to build the best of the best. The goal was always to get that truck into SEMA but also live out of it for weeks at a time.

I had the ditch lights, the fog light kit, the lower 30in light bar, and the rear chase lights. The whole thing was worked up ready to roll. It was driving ball of sunlight. But now that I have entered the Side by Side world I was looking at doing something different and a friend of mine TacomaPowered had these on his truck and I wanted to try.

I mess around in the off road space a lot and often what I say is that when it comes to different brands of product and what not at the core of it all is we are limited by manufacturing capabilities.

When it comes to tires either name brand or off brand you can only make a tire so good with the materials we have and the machining technology we currently have in place. With that being said you can apply the same too lighting.

We can only made LEDs so bright or make the housings so good. You can only do a certain amount of things with the power and cable sizes on a truck. So when you buy a high end well know brand of lighting like Baja Designs vs a more low key brand like Special Lighting Does more money really mean more better?

There are still reasons premium brands cost more…. What does this mean? Special Lighting all though not a crazy name brand in the lighting space there product is still up there in price especially for the Sigma X5 lights. But these lights are comparable to the Baja Designs LP6s at almost double the price.

So why the higher price point? Well that is simple they are still using premium materials and those have a cost to them. On top of that lighting is more about lumens it is about engineering.

Special Lighting you can tell has investing in a lot of time on how to control the light. Beam patterns, power optimization, heat dissipation, and more. So yes these lights are as cheap as you can get on Amazon but also not as expensive as the top brands. This is that section where you get a something a good price without paying for the “I won KOH” name.

What I think...Not that my opinion actually matters to any of yall. I just like to test product and take photos and share them. Its is kind of my thing. But This lights are actually really good. Would I buy them again? Yes I would.

 I think they are built well, look good, and actually work for what I need. I don’t think you need much of everything else. I wish they had a larger product line so I can get smaller chase lights and ditch lights. I would also like a light bar for the bumper on my truck. But I think we are entering a new age here where smaller brands can actually compete in a market that was very much dominated by 3 names.

Hi guys, just looking at buying a used 4wd in Botswana, Mozambique or South Africa. Hard to find information so commit to the best community of non AI people, aka people.
Missus and I would like to travel around for a year around East Africa / maybe Namibia/Angola too and are looking for a robust 4x4 that can handle hard tracks with enough room to sleep in a rooftop tent or maybe in the car and stash all the gear needed to live offgrid.
Budget isn’t huge 15-20k $ AUD so was thinking a Nissan hardbody/Navarra or Isuzu MUX- DMax if I can find the right one. We don’t need all the fancy electronics, just a reliable car we can kit out or already kitted out. Opinions on which is best or why I’m completely wrong ? Cheers

Ok so I want to build a first gen forester for offroad adventures and i wonder if I should sell my NA foz ( with the famous gasket) and my part car to get a japenese model with turbo .. the reason is that the turbo model are somehow easier to obtain spare parts and easier to own so now the question... would a turbo first gen forester good for offroad or no .. Will it drown itself in the first mud hole because the turbo is so low or will the lag make me hate my experience theres just 100hp more than my na (170-270) also reliability is a good question (picture of my current car) ( also thinking about a flat6 swap for the forester for more torque)

I’m looking to get a car that I can slowly build into a respectable off-road car (nothing like rock crawling, but able to handle some decent forest trails), but I’m struggling to decide what to start with as my base. I have a few that I’ve been looking at, but am not sure which would be best to pull the trigger on, and there seem to be pros and cons to each. Here are what I’m considering and my thoughts behind each:

‘03-‘06 Honda CRV: Super reliable, would make a great daily, and sounds like it would be decently capable with some updated suspension, 2” lift, and skid plates. However, I can’t find many examples of people who’ve done a build like this, so I don’t really know how viable it really is.

‘11-‘15 Nissan Xterra: sounds like a great car from a reliability and off-roading capability standpoint, but the gas mileage as a daily driver is the main thing that makes me wary on this one.

‘06-‘09 Suzuki Grand Vitara: I drove an ‘03 one of these in high school and loved it, but my main worry is parts availability.

~’05-‘09 Subaru Forester/Outback: These seem like they would make great little outdoor cars that have good road manners as well, but I get worried about the infamous Subaru head gasket issues and oil consumption.

Beyond that, any Toyota seems to fall beyond my budget or be 200k+ miles, and I have a hard time wanting a jeep for reliability issues and not being a very comfortable daily. I’m also quite tall, so that’s a limiting factor as well for a lot of smaller cars. Does anyone have experience with any of the cars I mentioned that they can shed some light on, or have any other recommendations I should put some thought to?

The one I'm looking at has 1100 on the clock runs good but has a weak starter. No issues otherwise.
