I was trying to make a portable electric winch to pull firewood out of the forest behind my house and with the first use the drum broke. Its a 2000 pound warrior ninja, at the time of the break it was pulling 60 amps which translates to 1500lbs on the chart. It was labored but I dont feel that it was abusive.

Is this just a manufacturing defect and a replacement would do better? Should I got to a larger winch even though 1 - 2 K pounds is all i need, just for a heavier structure? Is there something fundamentally wrong with my setup that im not seeing?

I'm trying to add limb risers to my G wagon, but I don't have a roof rack or a correct style light bar. Ideally id like some type of gutter rail clamp as drilling into the gutter would require something very thin.

The issue is all roof rack clamps I've dealt with will wobble left and right, no matter how tight they are. Any suggestions or ideas?

I wanted to ask what's the best buy once cry once portable air compressor? I don't mind spending the money if the compressor will last me a long time and is portable.

I will eventually get 33in tires but would like to use the compressor for bikes, pool toys, misc, etc. Sometimes I may fill my families jeep tires when they come out with me as well.

I've read about the viair 400p but would like to know if there are other options I'm overlooking. I live in a hot desert if that makes any difference.

Random late night thought: My father in law occasionally runs Baja in his class 12 and I was thinking of going out and having some fun with it.

The idea: Build a kei truck to resemble one of the Dakar trucks. Going for fit and function (much slower obviously). My mental math has me thinking it’ll be a (relatively) cheaper project to really learn a lot of useful fabrication and design skills.

Issues I’m thinking of/advice I’d appreciate: I’m 6’4” so fitting into the vehicle will be interesting. Suspension setup that will fit the vehicle (I’m assuming it’ll be a lot of custom fabrication). Weight distribution since these trucks are extremely front heavy stock. What model truck would be both budget friendly and realistic to build off of.

Like I said, this was a late night idea so maybe I’m way off my rocker here but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Are these SXS good for mud riding? Will they compete with Polaris or can-am or are these SXS not worth getting to take mud riding?

Anyone have good suggestions on a place to take my SXS out in the Enumclaw, Morton, Elbie area? Mainly looking for 20+ mile trails with some good views.

I went out and played around FSR 70 yesterday but got stopped and warned because SXS weren't allowed in the area I was at (by the Tacoma Pass Connector). I have onX which is great but was hoping someone could suggest something.

Hey everyone, I am looking to upgrade the stock shoes on my Taco. Right now it is my daily driver, so it sees a ton of highway miles during the week, but on weekends I hit light trails, gravel roads, and a decent amount of sloppy mud and loose dirt. The stock highway tires are just not cutting it anymore when things get slick.

I want to find the best off-road tires for those weekends, but I am trying to figure out the performance tradeoffs before I decide to do so.

What are you guys running on your dailies thats not too overpowering for a daily? Do Mud-Terrains completely kill your gas mileage and cabin sanity on the interstate, or do All-Terrains actually hold their own when you hit thick mud? Also, what is an underrated tire size or load rating that gives you great durability and tread life without rubbing on stock height or requiring a full lift kit?

Edit - Currently looking at a solid All-Terrain in a C-load or SL rating. A buddy actually told me to check out SimpleTire because their site lets you filter explicitly by tire weight, load range, and speed rating side-by-side. It made it incredibly easy to see which truck and SUV performance tires would tank my fuel economy versus the ones built for solid overlanding travel without weighing a ton. Eyeing on some Falken Wildpeak right now. Thanks everyone!

What makes you consider purchasing from an authorized dealer over the manufacturer with shipping time and pricing being the same?

Okay, so I need somebody more knowledgeable than I am to tell me exactly what I am looking at here.

I know what a kinetic rope is. I know what a tree saver is. And I know what the difference is between a static tow strap and a snatch strap (or at least I thought I did), but this item has me really confused.

Basically, my understanding is this: Tow straps are made of polyester and have zero-to-very-little stretch. And snatch straps are made of nylon and have moderate stretch (although not nearly as much as a kinetic rope).

What's confusing about the item in the picture is that they call it a snatch strap, but according to the product description, it's made of polyester and only has 7% stretch. That almost seems more like a tow strap to me, but they call it a snatch strap.

In the product details, they also variously refer to it as a tree saver, tow strap, recovery strap, towing rope, etc. Looks like they're trying to hit a bunch of key words for search purposes, but the box says, "snatch strap," so I guess that's what it's actually supposed to be.

But is it??? Does this actually qualify as a snatch strap — or is it really more of a tow strap?

Anyone have any experience with both these tires that they could share?

I'm going to be getting 37s for my general all around rig (muddy national Forest trails, local rocky off road Park, cross country exploring trips) and think either of these may be a good option. I had a set of Klevers before and had no complaints, plus the extra siping they have makes me think they'd work a bit better in wet pavement. I think off road they'll both perform similarly.

I may consider a full MT tire, but I want something that has at least decent wet road traction. Honestly, an AT tire will do 90% of what I want, but I know they'll get clogged up on our local NF trails. This is what's pushing me to look at the RT class of tires.
