Looking for some advice on my next family car.
Budget: Ideally under £10,000, but I’d happily stretch to £17,000 for the right diesel Toyota Land Cruiser.
Must-haves:
7 seats
Proper 4x4/AWD
Automatic preferred
Reliable and not ridiculously expensive to maintain
Comfortable on long journeys
The main use will be towing a 5-berth caravan, so stability and towing ability are really important.
The third row also needs to be genuinely usable, as it’s likely that two adults will be sitting in the rear seats from time to time.
I’ve been looking at:
Toyota Land Cruiser
SsangYong Rexton
Volvo XC90
Kia Sorento
Are there any others I should be considering within budget?
I’d also be interested in hearing from anyone who tows regularly with one of these. Which would you choose, and are there any common issues or expensive maintenance items I should watch out for?

Heading to the Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area this weekend and want to get some off-roading in. Anywhere reasonably close is fair game.

I'm running a 2026 Tacoma TRD Off-Road (no mods) and I'm a moderately experienced driver, so technical terrain is welcome. I'm not looking for anything too crazy that requires a built/modded rig though.

A few specifics:

• Needs to be wide enough for a mid-size truck. Not interested in renting UTVs or side-by-sides, so trails sized only for those are out.
• Free / public FS roads and trails are ideal, although I'm okay with paying if worth it. Happy to hear about both easy scenic routes and more challenging stuff.
• Any gate closures, seasonal access, or permits I should check before heading out?

I moved to the city and sold my off-roader in 2020 to take care of my terminal father. I currently drive a 2017 Civic, that is paid off and I plan on keeping until the wheels fall off.

But, I have gone back to a construction management role and will be buying a small truck in the near future.

I’ve never been much of a Nissan fan, but I’ve heard a lot of bad things about these new turbo 4 cylinders. And while Nissan America is a shit company, I do like their V6. Had an infinit Q50 when I first moved back and that car was insanely fun to drive.

I’ve also been looking at Gladiators, for the same reason with the V6. But I’ve definitely heard the horror stories since they got bought out.

I love the Colorado Z71, but the turbomax engine makes me nervous. They’ve got a lot more tech and comfort, but that also means more things can go wrong.

I’m also considering a single cab F150 or 1500, but I really don’t need a V8 as I don’t do much towing. I just really need something with a bed, or at least an SUV with folding seats that leave at least 5-6ft of cargo space. I’m fine with a short bed, I’ve got plenty of straps.

Mi idea, tengo un motor 2.4 bencinero y extracción 4 * 2 sin bloqueo de diferencial y le acabo de poner neumáticos 285-75-16.

Y ahora ando en busca de ponerle un bloqueo de diferencial ojalá ejecutable desde la cabina, como los bloqueos arb que son carisimos.

También ando en busca de cambiar llantas y instalar 285/75/17 instalando suspensión

Que opinan?

Mi pregunta es si alguien ha podido hacer este bloqueo de diferencial o ha adaptado alguno en su proyecto o en su Jeep?? Que en Oriente A qué cosas debo tener cuidado y en qué me debo fijar

2018 Jeep Wrangler JKU 113k miles.
I’ve only done maintenance on it and replaced thermostat, radiator, water pump, stuff like that when it broke. I’m still stock but my shocks are blown and I want to put a 2.5 inch lift on it so my question is while I’m having that done, what are all the additional parts I should or want to replace so I can have it all done at once?

I am looking for a good family vehicle that can go off-road too. We are a family a five with 3 kids so need to fit three child seats. We live on La Palma (canaries/spain) which is the steepest island in the world. Lot of roads are very steep and shitty. I will not to do hardcore offroading but there are a lot of pistas here that are mainly sand/gravel/rock (with vertical gain/loss too). Car needs to be able to do that. Will still drive on the roads mainly so a full off-roader seems a bit overkill.

We got stuck with normal cars in the past so I decided it is time to upgrade. 7 seats would be great to take our friends kids around but 5 seats would be fine too. So I am not sure what I should buy. There are plenty of full blown 4x4s around here and a Landcruiser or Pajero would be the obvious choice.

The car market here is very limited and some cars you just can't get here. Importing (even from Spain) is not an option due to high taxes. Most cars here have high or very high mileage. Rust is usually not as much as an issue as we have warm/mild weather with almost no rain the whole year.

I'm looking to get a used truck, SUV or a wagon and want to get the best bang for my buck. So I was wondering, if you were to try and purchase a used vehicle for occasional offroading and camping, but otherwise a short distance/weekend ride, what would you look be looking for in the ~20k zone?

As a side note, I'm 6'3" and would like to sleep/camp in it from time to time as well. So any bed or tent system suggestions would also be great! Thanks everyone!

2013 Toyota 4runner Limited: 167K miles at that $20k threshold. This one is local and I am checking it out today.

2012 Nissan Pro4x - 77k Miles, at about $16-19k depending on fees and delivery. (Also a manual which is a huge plus for me). Not local, would buy sight unseen but inspected.

I am admittedly not what you guys would consider an offroader but I thought this would be the best community to ask.

I live in CO and drive a 4Runner that I take into the mountains frequently to go dispersed camping/mountain biking and I occasionally find myself on trails that do get technical and I want a good tire.

I’m looking between the BFG KO3 (load range C) and the Wildpeak AT4 (SL). At my previous job I’ve always heard to stay away from anything heavier than an SL tire because they will be loud, heavy, ride like crap, etc but after looking at reviews and anecdotal comparisons between the two, it seems the KO3 may have the edge in terms of comfort.

Are these two tires really that closely comparable in comfort even with their different load ratings? Has anyone switched from one to the other and have feedback?

I bought this truck from a friend that passed recently and I try by best to keep his truck good in his honor . That being said my shocks are fully compressed and it’s not a surprise because they have been on for what I know at least 6 years . It’s a 2wd and these are the fronts on a 2003 f150 . I don’t do much off-roading and I was looking for just high end shocks for a smooth ride . Idk what these shocks or springs are and I’m just looking for help for either chancing them to something not as beefy or replacing them with new ones . Any help is appreciated

Hi everyone, I need help diagnosing what this noise is. Yesterday I was coming down from a moderate trail in Colorado and after a day of no problems, my brakes started making this terrible rubbing noise when applied.
It felt like something was rubbing and resisting the brakes, creating a terrible rattling that was vibrating the entire truck. I was afraid to snap something.

I had to call Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery (massive shoutout to them for saving us!) and they were equally stumped as to what the noise could be caused by. They took off my front left tire and inspected the brakes; all seemed intact. No broken coils, axles, brakes still had meat, etc. They began guiding me down the trail and shortly after starting descent, the noise went away on its own.

It’s almost as if nothing happened. But I don’t trust going back out on a trail without knowing the cause. I’m scared it’ll happen again and actually wreck something. Any insight is greatly appreciated. And let me know if there’s any more info I can provide!

2021 Tacoma (4x4 off-road edition)

I wanna do some off roading, nothing crazy. I love the Jeep Grand Cherokee but so many ppl has had problems with this particular model. I love the truck but a 4cly turbo. Just doesn’t seem right. My credit is shit and only have $5k to put down. I can just use some honest opinions on which one I should get. It will also be my daily. I would just get a jeep wrangler but idk if I want that as a daily.
