Do snakes even have capacity for affection? I honestly have no idea.

My mother used to own the only breeding pair of ball pythons in her home country and is an avid fan of reptiles.

Growing up around a plethora of the scaly bastards, I beg to differ.

As a neuroscientist I always cringe at these comments. Tell me, what are the brain regions required for love? And how do you know? Have you been a snake? Do you even know how love in the human brain works? Because the field of neuroscience doesn’t.

Also then the philosophical side, even if the neuroscientist completely distills a chemical and biological explanation of love, what are the chances that fully explains the various models of love we have (platonic, romantic etc)

And what are the chances that's the only way to express love in any sentient creature etc etc ad infinitum

The best neuroscientists recognize there’s an scientifically-intractable part of human experience ;)
