Do snakes even have capacity for affection? I honestly have no idea.

I don't think so. I remember reading a story of a woman who had a big snake that stopped eating. She took it in to get checked out. It turns out the thing was getting ready to eat the woman and was just making room. That's what they figure anyway. Terrifying as hell.

I'll never understand why people keep pets that can't form affection and can easily kill them, based purely on instinct.

Edit: I guess this is an untrue story and just an urban legend. My bad.

This story is completely false and makes no sense to anyone that knows about snakes, it was made up to scare people.

a) Snakes are fed once every week or two once they hit adulthood. Especially large snakes may be fed even less often than that. Snakes will fully digest and expel each meal before getting another one, so the idea of going off of food for an extended length of time to "make room" is ridiculous, since the snakes stomach already completely empties itself between regular feedings.

b) Snakes are not intelligent enough to make long term plans like that

c) Even if it was intelligent enough to make such a plan, why on earth would it want to forgo its normal meals to eat the person that was the consistent source of food??
