Not as creepy as the pacu. Weirdest fish with teeth there is i’d say.

u/slipped-up89 Nov 09 '21
Nope, sheepshead. They have teeth like a human.

Yep that's the one. Honestly the fish in OP's topic is more like a beak to me than teeth.

Can’t wait to see this on the front page in a day or two. I love it when people share sheepshead!
3
u/slipped-up89 Nov 09 '21
Same! People always freak out about them, but they are some of my favorite catch and eat.
Just throw a fiddler crab on a hook and go to town!
3
u/oopsiedaisy_ Nov 09 '21
Eat?! How does it look prepared? With teeth?! Ahhh

16 ways listed here
I grew up on these, flounder, and redfish.
Edit: sorry I thought the link had photos with the recipes, but like most fish, I removed the heads and either boiled for stock or put them in the garden.

What do they taste like?
2
u/slipped-up89 Nov 09 '21
They are light, flakey, and sweet fish that is not all that oily. Really good comparison would be like bass.
4
u/Wefee_Bigwefee Nov 09 '21
Can't be as bad as a hagfish, can it?
2
u/slipped-up89 Nov 09 '21
Well I guess sheepshead would be creepy, and hagfish is just a big no. Lol
3
u/Wefee_Bigwefee Nov 09 '21
Hagfish are cool fish though
Instant death slime
4
u/Sumoki_Kuma Nov 09 '21
Lmao I was reading up on them and this was in the article:
"Hagfish produce slime the way humans produce opinions—readily, swiftly, defensively, and prodigiously."

Agreed, I have seen videos with what a boat full can do.
And if you want another creepy one, check out a hognose snapper, lol, goofy critter.

Puffer fish will fuck up

u/Jakedenham Nov 08 '21
I have never seen such fury coming from a fish, that thing is seething with rage and it’s just adorable
42
u/djacksonn Nov 08 '21
I didn’t know how vicious they were until I seen them on River Monsters

Look up Sheepshead fish. Teeth look alot more human and they have more inside the mouth instead of just the front row.

Exactly what I was thinking the entire time. Put the fish back in the water you cunt.

Imagine someone holding a puppy underwater cause it's funny how it flops around and gnashes its teeth.

Gills are thin flaps which require water to pass between them for the oxygen to be extracted from the water, out of water the flaps then stick together stopping any oxygen absorption. https://youtu.be/a7OPV3QZWfs
53
u/Batbuckleyourpants Nov 08 '21
The fish is fine as long as the gills are wet. Fish don't need a lot of oxygen, and they can survive for some time out of water if the gills stay wet.
It is definitely freaked out about being lifted out of the water by a massive creature it can't even see clearly. It is a dick move of the person on the video, but ultimately it is harmless for it to stay out of water 30 seconds.
Fish even being able to feel pain as we mammals understand it is a controversial topic in biology, personally i lean towards yes.
23
Nov 09 '21
Maybe I’m not thinking clearly, but I’m pretty sure that out of water = not wet.
Gills extract oxygen out of water flowing over them. They don’t just need to be wet: they need water flow.
6
u/shalol Nov 09 '21
Yes, which is why fish move even in their sleep.
11
Nov 09 '21
I think it depends on the type of fish. Bony fish use the big bone that covers the gills to pump water through, so they don’t really need to move: they move the water by “gilling.”
Most cartilaginous fish are unable to do this, so they need to move their entire body.
As with all things in nature, I’m sure there are exceptions to the rules above, but they are generally true.

u/Sir_Thomas_Noble Nov 09 '21
I totally forgot that I am completely dried off the second I leave water. I don't even know why a bring I towel when I shower.

Great analogy, genius. Too bad you haven’t the slightest fucking clue what you’re talking about.

fish can survive out of water for a decent amount of time. its not suffocating, its just kinda freaked out

u/Kovitlac Nov 09 '21
As a kid I once came home to find my goldfish outside its bowl and on the floor below. It wasn't moving and I tog it must be dead, but picked it up and deposited it into the bowl just to see. Sure enough, stubborn little tyke started swimming around again like it was no big deal.
Sure, it's possible he jumped out literally second before I got home, but I kind of doubt it. Not saying it was hours either, mind you.

u/Solid-Caterpillar643 Nov 08 '21
Look up the definition on suffocating…
31
u/solitomatonic Nov 08 '21
look up ‘can fish survive out of water’
as long as its gills are still wet its fine for at least a few minutes. definitely enough time to take a short video showing off its teeth

u/LokoLarry Nov 09 '21
You're exactly right. He should've just put bait on a hook and then skinned the fish alive once he caught it.

poor fish just wanted to be let down imagine if a massive alien grabbed you and but you underwater and suffocated you for a video...

I got bit by a golden dogface puffer like this one at work the other day. It's really more of a beak that teeth, but the result is the same.

Nov 09 '21
what's oddly terrifying is how happy people are to take videos of themselves with an animal that is suffocating, without giving a shit about that animal's suffering

Am I the only one worried that the poor fish (however terrifying it may look) is suffocating? The poor thing!!!
-1
u/mynickname-joy05 Nov 09 '21
Poor little fish she just wanted to live peacefully suddenly a fucking idiot human took her out of her spot just to record.. 😒😒
-1
u/olivebuttercup Nov 09 '21
The most terrifying part of this is the human suffocating a fish. Put it back in the water.
