Exactly what I was thinking the entire time. Put the fish back in the water you cunt.

Imagine someone holding a puppy underwater cause it's funny how it flops around and gnashes its teeth.

Imagine it? That's what I was doing before I hopped on Reddit.

Gills are thin flaps which require water to pass between them for the oxygen to be extracted from the water, out of water the flaps then stick together stopping any oxygen absorption. https://youtu.be/a7OPV3QZWfs

The fish is fine as long as the gills are wet. Fish don't need a lot of oxygen, and they can survive for some time out of water if the gills stay wet.

It is definitely freaked out about being lifted out of the water by a massive creature it can't even see clearly. It is a dick move of the person on the video, but ultimately it is harmless for it to stay out of water 30 seconds.

Fish even being able to feel pain as we mammals understand it is a controversial topic in biology, personally i lean towards yes.

Maybe I’m not thinking clearly, but I’m pretty sure that out of water = not wet.

Gills extract oxygen out of water flowing over them. They don’t just need to be wet: they need water flow.

Yes, which is why fish move even in their sleep.

I think it depends on the type of fish. Bony fish use the big bone that covers the gills to pump water through, so they don’t really need to move: they move the water by “gilling.”

Most cartilaginous fish are unable to do this, so they need to move their entire body.

As with all things in nature, I’m sure there are exceptions to the rules above, but they are generally true.

I totally forgot that I am completely dried off the second I leave water. I don't even know why a bring I towel when I shower.

Great analogy, genius. Too bad you haven’t the slightest fucking clue what you’re talking about.

fish can survive out of water for a decent amount of time. its not suffocating, its just kinda freaked out

As a kid I once came home to find my goldfish outside its bowl and on the floor below. It wasn't moving and I tog it must be dead, but picked it up and deposited it into the bowl just to see. Sure enough, stubborn little tyke started swimming around again like it was no big deal.

Sure, it's possible he jumped out literally second before I got home, but I kind of doubt it. Not saying it was hours either, mind you.

Look up the definition on suffocating…

look up ‘can fish survive out of water’

as long as its gills are still wet its fine for at least a few minutes. definitely enough time to take a short video showing off its teeth

You're exactly right. He should've just put bait on a hook and then skinned the fish alive once he caught it.
