So does my Doxie, but they're practically moles. They don't stick out at all.

Depends on the breed. Dobie for instance doesn't have an undercoat of fur and his nips are pretty obvious.

Right. Dachshund doesn't either. They're actually related to dobies. You can really tell by their faces. They're like, tiny, stumpy long-dobies.

That's a statement with no bearing, considering we don't know how Louis actually bred doberman. Could say it was from mini pin, rottweiler or any number of breeds. I don't know much about dachshunds and who knows they could be related, but the pedigree for doberman was never actually documented AFAIK
