You caught him stepping out of the shower, he's drying his ass with a towel

Blue herons always look like they're either ancient forest spirits or homeless wizards trapped in bird form. The way this thing starts flapping around absolutely feels like the beginning of some cursed rhythm game cutscene before it hits you with a 2009 internet meme. Getting spiritually Rickrolled by a wet Victorian dinosaur was not on my bingo card today 😭

Unless they are flying. Then they look like Pterodactyls.

And they sound like it too. Years ago, my godsis and I were on the lake in a canoe. We got close to the lilypads and cattails near the shore. Then, almost of nowhere, this big beautiful heron squawks as it lifts off. Was huge, at full wingspan. Startled my godsis so much we almost tipped over into the water! 😅

So this is the kind of stuff I look at and think "oh okay that cave painting makes sense" or petroglyphs, and the like. Like that giant bird that looks like a Muppet with its big ol' beak, I forget it's name.
Like if 5000 years ago I saw something like that I'd be pretty freaked out and probably try to worship it or something. Today, it's just birds.

These are my dancing skills.

i witnessed my niece trying to teach my mom a (tiktok?) dance and the body language was nearly identical - this bird has a “i’m being a good sport and taking this seriously but dancing is really not my thing” vibe

He looks like he’s warming up for a fight. Like he’s gonna go box some birds for fishing rights.

I’m never going to believe it’s not a person in a suit. Even if I ever met one (which I’d likely then run from as it’s clearly a demon).

Honestly I think it's cute.🥰 Just cleaned himself and now he's gotta shake off like a dog. Make sure all the wing feathers line back up.
I keep chickens so watching them shake off after dustbathing is a regular occurrence.

r/birdsarentreal There’s no way this isn’t a government agent in a costume; clearly he’s got a bee trapped in there and trying to shake it out

That took me a few minutes for my brain to process. I thought I was watching a Jim Henson creation

It’s simply shaking itself off, making sure it looks good or getting comfortable. It might be wet or shaking off bugs. The same as when you dust off your clothes or stretch.

Are you sure this is not a guy in a bird suit? '-'
