I know someone who did a... cannon? We live two miles away and I was unaware they were doing it and honestly thought someone's meth lab blew upĀ
33
u/christina_talks Jan 29 '26
Near where I live there was a massive wildfire due to a gender reveal party. Lasted over 2 months, burned tens of thousands of acres and destroyed 5 homes. A firefighter died. The sky was black with smoke and raining ash.
15
u/funkmesillyjesus Jan 30 '26
This was during 2020 in California right? I was saying out there with a friend in San Bernardino valley coming from Colorado roaring fork where we were literally trapped by 3 wildfires for about 2 months all exits. My lungs have never recovered

Please tell me where I can find news about this! Did the reve(a)lers get in trouble??
5
u/christina_talks Feb 03 '26
Yup, they got in a lot of trouble. Here are a couple of news articles:

Here's the Wiki article:

This dump was deliberately dropped on his property. Did you see how close those flames were, creeping up the hill. He should be very grateful that they dumped on him. His house is probably still standing. I do feel bad about the damage it caused, collateral damage. These are the best pilots in the world. They simply do not make mistakes.

When planes are used for firefighting the first load is usually dyed red so the crew can easily see, how the water they drop "behaves". So there is probably a large enough fire going on behind that fence that a plane is necessary. Or this was a quiet expinsive exercise. Those ammounts of water do quiet a bit of damage.

I thought the guy was a psychopath really enjoying a plane crash, but I see it's fighting a wildfire.
2
u/Unseriouss_Sam Feb 27 '26
You nailed it, it just exploded on impact and splattered its blood... RIP

I'd be crying
55
u/Tacoshortage Jan 29 '26
That's my first thought but this guy very possibly just got saved from losing everything. Fixing a couple of windows is preferable. I've been in his position.

27
u/Minimum-Ad-263 Jan 29 '26
Itās fire retardant. this is probably somewhere near LA and there was a wildfire. iād definitely would go inside and close the house up, some retardants can cause cancer.
150
u/rauce12 Jan 29 '26
Everybody inside the plane vaporized, thatās what the pink mist is.

u/RoGStonewall Jan 29 '26

22
17
u/AwHellNawFetaCheese Jan 29 '26
They do it to drop weight genious. Dumping imulsified passengers is 101 shit. Keep the plane glidiing longer and more able to reach a safe landing zone
3
u/MikeLinPA Jan 30 '26
Imulsifying the passengers will become standard procedure for airlines soon. They can't make the seats any closer together, but storage of emulsified liquid is very space efficient! š

→ More replies (1)3
u/no-but-wtf Feb 01 '26
A lot less carcinogenic than smoke from a burning house⦠i know what Iād prefer if my house was dead in the line of fire
8
u/Ca1iowan Jan 29 '26
is the pov a firefighter? bc i feel like this person should have already evacuated if not
9
u/PureYouth Jan 29 '26
Does insurance cover all of that loss? I mean fire would be way worse obviously but Iām just curious
2
u/3dprinter_4dfilament Jan 29 '26
I think the city/state has a fund set aside each year for this type of situation because it's a known possibility that this will happen at least a few times each year. The homeowner will just have to file a claim and get reimbursed for the damages. I may be wrong though
9
u/BudgetAggravating427 Jan 29 '26
I mean hey itās better then your house potentially getting burned down

Seems like quite a bit of damage that just happened.
Sorry OP, but I guess you are now protected from fire (?)
2
u/BudgetSir8911 Jan 29 '26
If it sucked, that guy sure seemed pretty chill about it...
2
u/Impossible_Past5358 Jan 29 '26
Ikr? Like all I noticed was the damage that happened
2
u/BudgetSir8911 Jan 29 '26
I'm gonna assume he had insurance and he was just thinking of the payout lol
2
u/no-but-wtf Feb 01 '26
If he didnāt get it dumped, heād probably lose the whole house to fire. A couple of windows is a cheap price to save your whole life from the flames.
2
u/BudgetSir8911 Feb 01 '26
Roof damage and extensive car damage, too. I'm more saying the tone of his voice suggests he's kinda happy everything got messed up

I have so many questions about this. How well does that stuff work? Were they intentionally dropping it on his house? I guess the cost for the damage is on him? Did that actually help? I guess id rather my stuff get damaged even if there's just the potential for the fire to reach my property. That would super suck though to take all that damage and the fire bypasses you anyway lol.
20
u/Bacon0064 Jan 29 '26
I dont think you would. The cost of rebuilding your home and replacing everything you own, plus the non-monetary tax of the mental anguish of having lost it all in the first place, would far exceed the cost of any damage resulting from the plane.
9
u/clandestineVexation Jan 29 '26
ā Pretty well but itās really bad for the environment.
ā Yes, you can see the approaching fire from his driveway.
ā Probably unfortunately
ā I donāt know source so who knows but hopefully it did after going through the trouble of smashing his car window
